00:05musica
00:07quando i first started writing music based on the literature of j.r.r tolkien
00:12many years ago
00:14i felt almost like i was walking on sacred ground
00:17you know because he had such an idealized view of music so i wanted to
00:22understand
00:24how does he envision
00:27the power and role of music in his world right
00:30thus the years of research thus the painstaking notation
00:34of vocal ranges you know how does an elf sing
00:38how does a dwarf sing
00:40what kind of instruments do hobbits play right things like this you pull that out of the literature
00:45so with this understanding of how he envisioned music in his world
00:51then i feel like i'm in a better position
00:54to be able to do justice
00:55to that to create music
00:58that
01:00is authentic
01:02part of the tone we're trying to get
01:04to relate with the game is
01:06also this majestic tone that we discussed
01:08but also a visceral tone
01:09rohiram in some sense exists
01:11and it's a real place and to buy in that real place
01:13it's not glamorizing and putting in such beautiful lighting that it seems
01:18is unattainable and fantastic
01:20it has to seem authentic
01:22and real and organic
01:23the first things that come to my mind when
01:26reinterpreting anything like that is just
01:27trying to be true to the original source material
01:30and it's been interpreted in many different ways
01:33so i think it's getting to the essence
01:35and trying to
01:37trying to capture in whatever medium you're working in
01:41and this time around
01:42the the the excitement
01:44the i don't know grittiness
01:46that i think embodies the the novels and the stories
01:51i think the fans have some fairly strong expectations when it comes to rohan
01:55and they were very
01:56they've been rohan is one of the strongest elements in the books in my opinion
02:00as far as as far as stirring the emotions of the readers captivating them
02:04and creating a mental image of of what people expect
02:09so it's a fairly daunting task to try to try to meet those expectations
02:15in that respect it's also a it's also a really fun challenge to try to try to create
02:21what we've all seen in our heads while reading the books on the on the screen
02:25one of the critical things that a composer
02:29and an audio team have to do
02:31for the players is to find a way to
02:34bring them into the world emotionally
02:37and help immerse them in the experience
02:39so they forget
02:41they're sitting at their computer
02:43with headphones on right they forget that
02:45they feel like
02:47they are part of the roherum
02:49they feel like they are wandering around
02:52in the intwash veil
02:53you know they feel like they are in that place
02:55having that experience
02:56we sort of
02:58I like to say while the players are playing the game
03:01I'm playing the player
03:03right?
03:04with some emotional knobs and sliders
03:07to kind of bring their emotions into the experience
