00:00Tell those musicians to start playing some action music because it is on.
00:04Okay, here we go. Here we go. Come on, you guys.
00:08Greetings. Come on. We meet at last.
00:15Take that.
00:19Oh, inner thing.
00:27That felt good.
00:31Come on, guys. Let's go.
00:33Yeah.
00:34When you start out any of these projects, you have, and I threw a picture in your head of how
00:38you want people to feel watching the movie.
00:40And I think what we were most proud of was that people really connected to Poe.
00:43They found a little bit of themselves in him.
00:45And that allowed them, I think, to really enjoy the ride that he goes on.
00:49You guys see that? It's called being awesome.
00:51From the very beginning, Jack Black has really created the character of Poe.
00:56My face turned this for justice.
00:59That was my fist.
01:01Part of it is humor and irreverence and enthusiasm, and part of it is a kind of vulnerability that Jack
01:07has.
01:07There's a real sweetness in Jack's character that he brings to Poe, and I think that's one of the reasons
01:11people really connect to him.
01:13We're coming for you, Chad!
01:14Woo-hoo!
01:18And then his sense of humor, his comic timing, his ability to kind of come up with crazy pretend words,
01:24and all of a sudden it fits.
01:25Yeah!
01:27Okay!
01:27Woo-hoo!
01:29That makes no sense.
01:31When we get there in the studio, he often ad-libs a lot of stuff.
01:34That is severely cool.
01:36But he will add stuff on his own that gives a lot of that Poe-ism to it.
01:40Woo-hoo!
01:42You guys see that?
01:43It's called being awesome.
01:45I don't know, I feel pretty good.
01:47It's great.
01:47It's good.
01:47I feel like we've captured a lot of magic before.
01:49It's all acting to me, whether it's just voice or, you know, full-body acting.
01:54I guess it's that the job is still the same, to pretend that these scenarios are real and have real
01:59emotions.
02:00I'm better when my hair is tough on it a little bit.
02:04At the end of these sessions, these recording sessions that may last several hours, at the end of it, he
02:09looks like he's running a marathon because he acts out a lot of this stuff.
02:14It helps me act better when I really get into the body position the Poe would be in.
02:19I'm so serious.
02:24This is, in many ways, the same crew from the first film.
02:28We've been through a long, long span of panda years together.
02:32It's really a treat to work with so many people who personally take it upon themselves to make a great
02:39product.
02:40I mean, you're working with some of the best actors in the industry.
02:43I mean, how can Kung Fu stop something that stops Kung Fu?
02:46Remember, Dragon Warrior, anything is possible when you have inner peace.
02:51We need to get to that tower without being spotted by the wolves.
02:55Poe! Incoming!
02:57Sorry, Poe. It's just me.
02:59I'll give you a signal.
03:00Ga-ga!
03:01Ga-dee!
03:03Ga-dee!
03:03Ga-dee!
03:05Ga-dee!
03:05Ga-dee!
03:06Ga-dee!
03:06Ga-dee!
03:06Ga-dee!
03:06Ga-dee!
03:07The thing about Poe with the Furious Five is they love him, but he's also kind of like their
03:13little brother.
03:14He's brand new to this whole Kung Fu Master thing, so he'll embarrass them sometimes.
03:18Ga-dee!
03:19Ga-dee!
03:19That creates a lot of the comedy in the movie.
03:22Where's Poe?
03:23Poe!
03:23Who's a guy that big?
03:24Is that while they love him and are aware of his power, they're also kind of embarrassed
03:30by his silliness.
03:32On the day you were chosen as dragon warrior, it was the worst day of my life.
03:37Nothing else came close.
03:39People like them together because I think they're like every family.
03:41They're kind of that weird dysfunctional family where they all love each other, but they get
03:45on each other's nerves all the time, and they've got a lot to work out.
03:48Tigress, no!
03:50The hardcore do understand.
03:53But I can't watch my friend be killed.
03:55I think the relationship between Poe and Tigress has a lot more going on in Cup of
03:59Fanatute than in the first movie.
04:01I am ready.
04:02And Angelina's really taken that character and the development of that character very
04:05seriously.
04:06She understands where she's coming from emotionally.
04:09I just found out that my dad isn't really my dad.
04:12Your dad, the goose.
04:15That must have been quite a shock.
04:17So there's this level that Angelina has brought as an actress that's really made the character
04:21deeper and more interesting to watch.
04:23I hope this turns out better than your plan to cook rice in your stomach by eating it
04:27raw and then drinking boiled water.
04:29This plan's nothing like that plan.
04:30She's a fighter and she's out to go get the bad guy.
04:32She's also in this one for her, which is very nice for me.
04:35She has a bit of an emotional breakthrough and learns to be a little nicer.
04:39That was pretty hardcore.
04:41It's an amazing honor when an actor does these movies and is so excited to do it.
04:45And James Hong is really an example of it.
04:46Thank you for coming to Dragon Warriors, Noodles, and Tofu.
04:51He has just so taken this role of Mr. Ping to heart and really become him.
04:56And also just notes, thoughts that he's had about the character in the middle of the night
05:00or even when he's not working.
05:02I feel like he's still really thinking about the character and what it means and what it
05:05means to have that son.
05:06So good to see you, Po.
05:09Have you lost weight?
05:11I can almost put my wings around you.
05:13The thing is, really a character of depth.
05:16He has many facets.
05:17He's a single parent.
05:19Sort of like a Jewish mother and a Chinese father combined, if you can imagine that.
05:26That's me giving you a piggyback ride.
05:29On second thought, I'll hang on to this one.
05:31I think it was just like one of these perfect marriages between actor and role.
05:33He's just incredibly passionate about it.
05:36In honor of my son, free tofu desserts for everyone.
05:40Yay!
05:41With purchases.
05:43We had a lot of new characters and we were really lucky to find so many great actors that
05:47wanted to come and work with us.
05:48The year of the peacock begins now.
05:53We wanted to do a villain that was a little different than the first movie.
05:55We thought, well, what if this time Poe is challenged by somebody who's going to be
05:58a real mental opponent for him?
06:00So we came up with this idea of a peacock.
06:02A peacock who isn't, obviously, physically strong, but one who'd be very cunning, very
06:06smart.
06:07With the weapon by my side.
06:09All China.
06:10All rifle.
06:11I think we all felt like Gary Oldman would be the perfect casting for the peacock.
06:15He's so intelligent and he has so many layers and levels in his acting.
06:19Everything must be exactly as I envisioned it.
06:22He understands it's a very kind of twisted, demented guy that the peacock is.
06:28Calling the wolves!
06:30All of them!
06:31And Gary really gravitated towards that as, you know, he's done some amazing villains and
06:34I think the peacock is a really fun one.
06:37Whoa!
06:38The only reason you're still alive is that I find your stupidity mildly amusing.
06:46Well, thank you.
06:47You know that sort of proud, entitled thing that peacocks have?
06:51Well, he has that in space.
06:54Will the subjugation of the whole world finally make you feel better?
06:58A star?
06:59He's very witty and he's quite a mean tongue on him.
07:03Happiness must be taken.
07:05I mean, he fits very nicely in the gallery of sort of ultimate villains.
07:10Find this bad man and bring him to me.
07:15Yes, sir.
07:17Guess nobody told you.
07:18If you mess with a wolf, look at the face.
07:22The first time I saw the drawings of my character, I was like, this is me.
07:26This is how I picture myself.
07:28It's an angry, furry, vicious wolf.
07:31And so it seemed like it was going to be a natural fit.
07:32Ha ha!
07:34Lose it, steam, tubby!
07:36Ha ha!
07:37For one, he has one eye.
07:38Get up!
07:39He has big fangs.
07:40He has just a big, bad wolf.
07:42You know, he doesn't want to play the big, bad wolf.
07:44I do not like that guy.
07:45Ha ha ha!
07:48The ferocious master croc!
07:51Hey, master is storming!
07:53Box!
07:54We had all these great kung fu masters in this film to flesh out the world and make things feel
07:58even bigger.
08:00And we were very fortunate to have all these amazing actors.
08:03And they're all super cool, huh?
08:04Master Ox?
08:05I'm not letting you stay in this cell.
08:07I'd like to see you get me out!
08:09Master Ox is being played by Dennis Hayspert.
08:11And he's got that wonderful, deep, booming voice that seems very masterly.
08:15You answer this fool!
08:16I mean, he never approached it like he was a cartoon ox.
08:19He always approached it like he was a kung fu master that was suffering from the loss of his mentor.
08:25He really took the part seriously and brought this intensity to it that really gave that character,
08:29even in the few scenes that he's in, great death.
08:32Dong Lin is under the stewardship of the Master's Council, and we will protect it even from you.
08:38Master Rider is played by Victor Garber.
08:40He doesn't last very long in the movie.
08:42And we really needed to make an impression.
08:44We needed somebody who Poe would respect and look up to.
08:48And so that's why I think we went to Victor Garber, because he does have this kind of rich, buttery
08:53voice.
08:53And he's able to give you sort of a sense of command, but you know that he's kind.
08:59That's a warning.
09:00You are no match for our kung fu.
09:03I agree.
09:05But this is...
09:06I have to share this weapon, heart control, though.
09:09Soon all of China will be begging for mercy.
09:12I always figured that if you're doing a kung fu movie, you've got to have Jean-Claude Van Damme.
09:16And he was willing to do it.
09:18Like, oh my gosh, what a treat.
09:19So we got him a caviar in the movie, and he's just an amazing, amazing person.
09:23He's just such an exciting person to be around.
09:28It was great, because the first time I talked to the people from DreamWorks, and they said,
09:33you get to play a crocodile.
09:35And I go, oh, a crocodile, but my legs are so short, you know, the front, back.
09:40Oh, I'm going to be able to kick and everything.
09:42And they told me, you're going to use your tail a lot.
09:44So I go, whoa, whoa, whoa, point shock.
09:47You know, something like that.
09:49Are you hurt?
09:50It's true, because she's doing this to me.
09:53She's great.
09:54She's not a crocodile.
09:55When Jennifer looked at me and she talked to me, she saw me as a crocodile.
10:02Senior Jean-Claude Van Damme.
10:05I started martial arts when I was 11 years old.
10:08Now I'm almost 50.
10:09I was one of the pioneers of martial arts.
10:14And I was the first guy in the world to do a split between two chairs.
10:17So that's why we only would have somebody created a running horse.
10:20Legends is certain.
10:22We're really lucky to have Michelle Yeoh on the film also.
10:24I see.
10:25Pete, ow!
10:27And anger.
10:28How dare you!
10:29Followed by denial.
10:30This is not full-tune telling.
10:32You're just saying what's happening right now.
10:34She's obviously a kung fu legend, so we were all beyond excited to have her come think on the roll.
10:38There's a voice of wisdom in the meat.
10:41Her voice just has that weight.
10:44And that wisdom to it.
10:45And we wanted to make sure that the soothsayer had a voice that was as filmity as hers.
10:52Your story may not have such a happy beginning.
10:56But that doesn't make you who you are.
10:59It is the rest of your story.
11:02And I think Michelle was surprised that we asked her to do a character that doesn't even do kung fu.
11:06Like you could make me drink that.
11:10I wish that we could have given her like some crazy kung fu fight scene.
11:14But it just wouldn't have fit the characteristics there.
11:17We need some fury.
11:21We've got a great cast.
11:22I know people are excited about just hearing those voices.
11:25And seeing their moves.
11:27And it's the combination of exciting kung fu action.
11:30Skatush.
11:31With, you know, the ridiculous comedy.
11:34Disk of destruction.
11:40Seriously.
11:41One of the films that I've made that I'm absolutely the most proud of.
11:45I think it is beautifully done.
11:47It's funny.
11:47It's touching.
11:49It's got great action.
11:50It's all those things that make you great movie.
11:52I love you, Pat.
11:53To be part of this.
11:55It's a great movie.
11:56It's just a special movie.
11:57It's an action comedy.
11:59It's all the fun.
12:01Taste the defeat.
12:03With a colorful plan of a man.
12:05Come on.
12:07Kung fu still lives.
12:09Come on.
