00:05I'm going to tell you a little bit about what we've done with technology for EU4,
00:10especially compared to our old game EU3.
00:12In EU3 we had over 70 tech levels, but they were all fairly generic.
00:17What we've done with technology in EU4 is that we've tried to consolidate the tech levels a bit
00:22and make them much more interesting.
00:24We want every level to feel that you're actually doing something for your country
00:29and going forward and really changing something.
00:34And we've also tried to make each tech level much more historically immersive
00:39or give a better historical feeling to them.
00:45So before you invented tech level 10 in military technology
00:49and that gave you plus, say, 0.05 firepower.
00:53Whereas now you will invent the Harkibus, which you will encrypt your troops with.
00:59And with the new firepower, they will change how battles are fought and make you win wars.
01:05Or, for example, you could get a new diplomatic technology called coalitions,
01:11which would actually give you a completely new tool to conduct diplomacy.
01:14And another thing that has really changed is the fact that you now buy technology with monarch power.
01:21In the old tech system, well, that was almost self-contained in EU3.
01:26You got money that was put into the technology system and you prioritized between technologies.
01:32But now we've actually made it into a true trade-off.
01:36Do you forge ahead in technologies and build that new model army?
01:41Or do you reprioritize and conquer big swaths of territory and integrate them into your country?
01:48Or do you recruit a great new general to lead your armies and defeat that new model army that somebody
01:54else has?
01:55Or do you develop national ideas that will shape the future of your country?
