The Spitfire Makers Charitable Trust have unveiled a plaque at Langrish House to commemorate the village's WWII role in Spitfire production. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the plane's maiden flight.

00:00It's a very great honour for us, the people who were lucky enough to live in the parish of Langridge,
00:08to have been awarded this class.
00:10The same month of March, probably as went,
00:14marks this the 90th year of the first inaugural historic flight
00:20of a Vickers Supermarine Spitfire Aeroplane in March 1936.
00:29Secondly, and immensely important, we're here to commemorate the vital role played by the men and women of Langridge.
00:41It's all very quietly part of the nation's heritage.
00:48This house was also a headquarters.
00:51It was the headquarters of one of the Hampshire Group 7 auxiliary units.
00:58So in English, in translation, this was Churchill's secret resistance force,
01:05tasked with opposing what seemed to everyone to be an inevitable German invasion at the time.
01:14This is our 21st blue plaque.
01:17I would like to mention Winston Churchill, who said that never in the field of human conflict was so much
01:28owed by so many to so few.
01:32But then he carried on talking for about another hour, typical Winston.
01:36And he said this, there are vast numbers, not only in this island, but in every land, who will render
01:43faithful service in this war.
01:46The unknown warriors, working in the stable block here, making Spitfires.
