Georgia Shows Its Heavyweight Power on Day 3 in Tbilisi

A powerful final day in Tbilisi saw Luka Maisuradze win gold at -90kg, Audrey Tcheumeo dominate, and Idar Bifov impress. Raz Hershko staged a comeback victory, while Irakli Demetrashvili thrilled the home crowd. Georgia confirmed its strength with multiple medals.

00:00It's day three of the Judo Grand Slam here in Tbilisi.
00:03The Tbilisi Arena roared with non-stop heavyweight action on the final day of the competition,
00:09and hopes for more home medals were high.
00:15At under 90kg, home favourite Luka Mysoradze was up against Nemanja Maidov of Serbia,
00:22two former world champions battling for gold.
00:25In golden score, Mysoradze caught his opponent for a yuko, and the gold medal.
00:34Yeah, it's the best field because this is my first Grand Slam gold, you know.
00:39This is best because this is my city, my country, and here I win always better.
00:45His medal was awarded by Director of the International Judo Federation New Technologies and High Performance Commission,
00:51Mr. David Kevkishvili.
00:52At under 78kg, Audrey Chameo of France had an incredible day.
00:57Performing this textbook Osotogari in the preliminaries, she ended her day with a top-spot finish.

01:20At under 100kg, Idar Bifov struck gold in his fourth-ever Grand Slam appearance,
01:26catching his opponent with a beautiful sacrifice technique and scoring a wazari.
01:31International Judo Federation media and Judo for Peace director, Mr. Nicholas Mesner, awarded the medals.
01:37In the plus-78kg final, Olympic silver medalist Raz Hershko stunned the crowd.
01:44Coming from a wazari down, Hershko committed herself to a superb Osoto Otoshi, scoring Ippon and winning the gold medal.
01:56Mr. Vladimir Nutsubidze, referee supervisor of the International Judo Federation, awarded the medals.
02:05Home crowd favourite Irakli Demetrasvili looked set for gold during the preliminaries at plus 100kg.
02:12His toughest fight came in the final, against Loseni Kone of Germany.
02:17But a show-stopping Uchi Mata from Demetrasvili had the crowd up on their feet for the last gold medal
02:24of the day.
02:33He received his medal from International Judo Federation referee supervisor, Ms. Ioana Babiuk.
02:42With an additional two bronze medals, the day was filled with phenomenal Judo from the home team.
02:47Day three showed off the incredible power of Georgian Judo.
