00:08A Merman stole my wife
00:11To the sea, to the sea
00:14And it's caused me nothing but strife
00:17To the sea, boys, to the sea
00:20Oh, mermaids come and mermaids go
00:24But a merman you should be wary
00:26If you see one you should lock your door
00:32For they can be quite scary
00:36From really early on in the project
00:38There was always this idea that Rex was trying to promote
00:40Of that the world is made of stories
00:43So it is constructed of folk legends and myths
00:48From quite early on I was experimenting with sea shanties
00:52And I was like, I actually wrote a sea shanty
00:54Oh I remember this place from when I first arrived
00:59I wandered alone but somehow survived
01:04We don't want our games to feel like an experience that people have had before
01:08You know, if people are going to buy our games
01:10We want them to feel like they are getting something unique and special
01:18Normally when you're working on a handheld title
01:20You need to compromise the audio experience
01:22Just to be able to get it to fit on this small device that sits in your hands
01:25But the cool thing with Tearaway is that the Vita is such an awesome piece of kit
01:31That we didn't really have those restrictions
01:33So we've got beautiful ambient soundscapes everywhere
01:36We've got interactive music
01:37We've got tactile interactions with the paper objects in the world
01:42That when you touch them they sound paper and they dynamically change as they unravel
01:48When Brian, the other composer and I started working together at the start of that relationship
01:55There was quite a lot of back and forward where he'd written this
01:58It was an awesome bit of music but it just didn't quite fit
02:00And I slapped drums and bass on it
02:04And he was like, whoa, I don't know if we could do that
02:06And the next track Brian wrote after showing them that that's where the limits were
02:10Was this awesome folk dubstep track which you hear in the barn in the game
02:21And it's completely mad and it shouldn't work but it's really cool
02:26What I've had fun doing in the last few days is actually putting together a soundtrack
02:30And Media Molecule, we're kind of known for music as being a big part of our project
02:34But we've never released a soundtrack before
02:35And this is our first game that's 100% all original music
02:38There's no licensed music in the game
02:40And so I've had fun going through the game choosing all the best bits of music
02:44And putting it together
02:46So that musical journey that Tearaway takes you on
02:49You can experience outside of the game with the soundtrack
