10:20come in the beginning all the way through
10:21this guy over here on the right is the reason that we would have came to this level
10:24his name is Red
10:26but we're going to go ahead and skip past him
10:27and head up towards the hill
10:34so Red warned us
10:36that there were gophers up in the hill
10:38and we see a little sign
10:39down there that looks like something's off
10:41because we stumbled into a minefield
10:44if we had perception we'd be able to
10:46see the mines around us
10:47but since we don't have perception on this character
10:49we're going to go ahead and switch to
10:51animal whisperer skill and try
10:53and use it on one of the ghosts
11:00sure enough that worked
11:05I promise that not all uses of animal whisperer
11:07are going to include blowing up the animals
11:09but going back to multiple ways to solve things
11:11once you unveiled the mines with
11:13perception you would then be able to use your
11:15demolition skill to disarm them
11:17at that point you could pick them up
11:18put them in your inventory and use them within combat
11:22another option would be just
11:23to walk through it soak up the damage
11:24and then go back to your field medic to have them heal you
11:27back up to full
11:33when we started working on wasteland 2
11:34we made a commitment that we were okay with
11:37making content that not everybody's going to be
11:39able to see especially on a first playthrough
11:42in fact in the first 30 minutes of gameplay
11:44you're going to have to make a choice
11:46that's going to cut off an entire level
11:47which is approximately an hour and a half to two hours
11:50worth of gameplay based on a single decision
11:56as we walk up to this fortified stronghold
11:58we see some red scorpion militia that don't
12:00look too happy that we're here
12:01and combat starts
12:04but because we paid von overbake earlier
12:06he's going to go ahead and give us a free pass on this one
12:09going back to multiple ways to solve everything
12:12had we not paid him
12:13we probably would have had to fight our way through
12:16otherwise we could have gone over to the right
12:18disarmed an alarm
12:19and snuck our way through the gate
12:42so now we're about to roll up to our first major combat encounter in the demo
12:48up until now we've been moving everybody around together
12:50but we'll go ahead and break them apart
12:52to get a little bit more of a tactical approach to this combat
13:00so first we're going to collect our sniper
13:03have her move up onto a height advantage
13:06and go into a good spot
13:08that she can overlook the battlefield
13:10when you are in the height advantage in this game
13:12you do get a bonus to your chance to hit
13:14as well as to your evasion
13:17then we'll grab the SMG character
13:18move him around to the right
13:21through the little side alley
13:22and get prepared to rush in
13:25and the other two guys will move right up to the front gate
13:31at this point we make a decision
13:33how we're going to go ahead and start it
13:35pick the sniper
13:37and the first target
13:46you'll notice that we do have a grid based combat
13:49you can either have the grid defaulted on or off as you play
13:55when we talk about combat being tactical and strategic
13:58there are a few design decisions that we made along the way that made this so
14:01one of those was having a cover system
14:03and cover does play a very big role in this game
14:09with over 12 combat skills in the game
14:11we want to make sure that whatever gun you choose
14:13can be viable from the beginning of the game
14:15all the way through to the end
14:17now that doesn't mean that every single situation
14:19that gun is going to be useful
14:22it's all about the trade-off
14:23in our game bullets are extremely scarce
14:26which means that something like a handgun
14:28is going to be very efficient
14:30using each one of those rounds
14:31if you always walk in with an SMG on full burst
14:34more than likely you're going to lose
14:36a lot of rounds to misses
14:37because of a lower chance to hit
14:43higher caliber weapons
14:44like assault rifles and sniper rifles
14:46are going to use much more expensive rounds
14:48but there comes a trade-off
14:50again those weapons have a much higher
14:52penetration value
14:55bullets have both a penetration value
14:57and an expansion damage value
14:59this comes from the type of bullet that it is
15:03hollow point bullets are going to have a much lower
15:05penetration value but will deal a much higher
15:07expansion damage
15:09armor piercing rounds or depleted
15:11uranium rounds are going to have much higher
15:13penetration values
15:19there are many more details and weapon combinations
15:21to be found within the wasteland
15:22but now that you know the basics
15:24we'll go ahead and let combat play out a little bit
15:50if you want to see the range of your selected weapon
15:52hover over the weapon in the lower left hand corner
15:54and you'll see three different colors
15:55the yellow represents your base
15:58chance to hit with that weapon type
15:59the red is a pretty good drop off
16:01which is going to be a little more of a hail mary shot
16:03and the green is actually a bonus to your chance to hit
16:06the relationship between these colors changes
16:08not only by the weapon type
16:10but also the individual weapon within each type
16:19the final three enemies coming into combat
16:21were called in by the leader
16:22that's one of his AI actions
16:24something we try to do in this game is make sure
16:26that there was enough AI to constantly keep you guys
16:28thinking and on your toes
16:31the two heavily armored guys that came in
16:33with the big machine guns
16:34you'll notice that they won't take cover
16:36they move a lot slower but they're going to do a bunch of damage quickly
16:38the little unassuming robot
16:40is the disco bot
16:41he's more of a support type character
16:46he'll try to get to a zone
16:47where he can spot as many rangers as possible
16:49paint him with his lasers
16:50which is immediately going to give everybody who fires
16:53at those rangers an additional chance
16:54to hit bonus
16:57if one of your characters
16:58had synth tech
16:59and you could beat the skill check on the robot
17:02you could potentially turn him on to your side
17:04which would make him chase after his guys
17:06and give you a bonus
