00:01I'll get you, Mario.
00:03No way!
00:04How am I gonna win?
00:11Oh, hello everyone.
00:12I'm Bill Trennan from Nintendo's Treehouse.
00:15Looks like you caught me playing with my toys.
00:17When I was a kid, I used to spend a lot of time imagining who would win when my toys
00:21got into a fight.
00:22And sometimes, I still do.
00:23But wouldn't it be fun if you could actually find out?
00:26Well, pretty soon you can.
00:28You see, while these may seem like regular figures, they actually hold a secret within.
00:34We're calling them Amiibo.
00:36And we're going to create Amiibo for a variety of Nintendo characters, games, and series starting later this year.
00:43When you touch these Amiibo to the Wii U GamePad controller, you will see these characters come to life in
00:49your games in many different ways.
00:51Amiibo will expand the gameplay experience of supporting titles,
00:54and bring about new types of fun and new ways to interact with your favorite Nintendo characters.
01:01But since it's probably difficult to imagine how Amiibo will expand your experience, I'd like to show you.
01:07So let me explain using the first of many upcoming Amiibo-compatible games, Super Smash Brothers for Wii U,
01:13which will release this holiday alongside the first series of Amiibo.
01:18Now when I talk about figures in Smash Brothers, fans of the series will probably think of this.
01:27This was the opening video from Super Smash Brothers Melee.
01:30The original concept behind this series is that figures come to life and do battle all on their own.
01:37Don't you wish you could have figures like these?
01:39Well, that wish is about to come true with Amiibo.
01:43Let's say you head over to a friend's house with a Link figure in tow.
01:47Your friend has a Wii Fit Trainer figure, and luckily, Super Smash Brothers for Wii U.
01:53Each figure contains the spirit of the character they represent.
01:56So, when you touch an Amiibo to the Wii U game peg, that character will appear in the game to
02:04do battle while you cheer it on from the sidelines.
02:06Just like the original concept for the Smash Brothers series.
02:10There are many different ways to engage these characters in battle.
02:14You can pit them against other figures.
02:16You can face off against them yourself.
02:18They can team up and fight alongside you.
02:21And they may even be able to beat up your friends for you.
02:24In the game, of course.
02:26Every time your Amiibo battles, its abilities will get a small boost.
02:30Through battle, they can increase their overall level, along with their defense and attack powers.
02:36They can even learn tactics to become stronger opponents.
02:39In fact, through training, they can become quite formidable.
02:44Fighting against your Amiibo is going to be a lot more interesting than fighting against a plain old CPU opponent.
02:50Remember, even if you and a friend both buy Link figures, they won't be the same.
02:55You can customize their special moves based on the character's unique capabilities.
03:00That means your Link amiibo becomes your personal version of Link that you can train and customize in ways that
03:06make it different from your friend's version of Link.
03:09You get to breathe new life into each figure as you watch them evolve and witness their personality take shape.
03:16This unique data will be collected and stored inside each Amiibo.
03:21In this way, each Amiibo is your own unique figure that can act as your alter ego, partner, or rival
03:28just by playing together.
03:30Plus, if you battle your Amiibo against other Amiibo, they will level up faster than against CPU or human opponents.
03:38Collect your favorite figures, then battle, train, level up, and form your own unique bond with them.
03:44Who knows? Your Amiibo may even be able to beat that one friend you never seem to be able to
03:49take down on your own.
03:51When we launch Super Smash Bros. for Wii U this winter, we plan to release several Super Smash Bros. Amiibo
03:57as well.
03:58Now isn't this a sight to behold?
04:00And there are plans for even more characters on the way, so look forward to hearing more.
04:05And remember, Super Smash Bros. isn't the only game that will use Amiibo.
04:10We also plan to make games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, and Yoshi's Woolly
04:18World compatible with Amiibo.
04:20Are you wondering how each of those games will interact with Amiibo?
04:24Well, each game is different, so look forward to hearing more about them in the future.
04:30We have other plans for Amiibo, too.
04:32More games and figures are in the works as I speak.
04:36And one more thing.
04:37Next year, we plan to release a peripheral that will make it so you can use Amiibo on Nintendo 3DS,
04:43too.
04:44So look forward to Nintendo 3DS games that take advantage of Amiibo as well.
04:50Combining Amiibo with our games opens up a whole range of potential new gameplay experiences.
04:56It's one of the most exciting things Nintendo is debuting at E3.
04:59Stay tuned for future announcements about Amiibo and the games that will use them.
05:05Thanks for watching.
