00:00RATED M FOR MATURE
00:30We really worked very hard when we created Borderlands to create a tapestry, you know, a really deep, interesting universe
00:36with lots of elements.
00:38But we're making a first-person shooter, and in the end, what you're doing is you're running around shooting guys
00:43in the face and jumping on monsters' heads and freezing enemies and smashing things to pieces.
00:47Your only method of interaction with the other people in the world is to sort of stare at them as
00:51they talk at you or shoot them in the face.
00:53I think we've always known that Borderlands was more than just a first-person shooter.
00:56But the catch was that all of our mindshare was on making it the best first-person shooter we can
01:01make it.
01:08A lot of people know that Gearbox had actually worked with Telltale before with Poker Night at the Inventory 2.
01:14And we found it was fun to work together, and we really enjoyed that interaction and that collaboration.
01:19The Telltale guys were saying, this is cool, this is a rich universe, this is like a place we'd like
01:25to play.
01:25We thought these guys could do something really awesome with the game.
01:29And so the idea of doing an adventure-style game with the Borderlands franchise just seemed to be a natural
01:33fit.
01:34The decisions that are meaningful in a Gearbox Borderlands game are about what kind of gear should I use or
01:41how should I set up my character.
01:43When I play a Telltale game, the decisions that I'm making as a player actually affect the outcomes of the
01:48story.
01:49You will be able to not only see how your characters change as you progress through the game,
01:52but also see how you yourself as a player change and how the events shape your opinions.
01:56It's a unique thing that Telltale can do. It's a unique kind of storytelling.
02:01With anyone that we're working with, we do provide sort of creative feedback.
02:04So myself and Matt Armstrong are constantly going down to Telltale and basically sitting in story meetings with them.
02:09We help come up with the overall season arc of the story.
02:12We're not writing the actual dialogue in that because Telltale is just better at that.
02:16But we're sort of really trying to help see where the overall story is going to go,
02:19how it fits into our overall Borderlands universe.
02:21It became very clear that we can do things with them that are going to affect the rest of Borderlands
02:27significantly in the future.
02:29But make no mistake, this is a Telltale game.
02:31This is a Telltale game working in the universe that Gearbox created.
02:35And when you feel the quality that comes, you'll understand that this is what Telltale is good at.
02:40And I love it for that.
02:50I remember when the announcement trailer showed up.
02:54One of the things that I got a lot of email about.
02:56What's up with Handsome Jack showing up in that teaser?
03:00I thought he died in Borderlands 2.
03:02Handsome Jack is dead.
03:03Yes, Handsome Jack is dead and he's not coming back.
03:07But there are contingencies.
03:11I'll do it for trying to help.
03:11He's dead and he's dead.
03:12I'llkopoas.
03:14Take care.
