00:20One of General Deathshead's lieutenants is keeping the folder mentioned in your mission briefing at her base of operations.
00:26This folder contains the location of Deathshead's compound.
00:30It'll be our last chance at Ascovitsy.
00:38I've got a plan. Break into the keep. Kill every Nazi in there.
01:01How many goddamn Nazis are there in this world?

04:55Are there anything meno immediatamente that fans of the New Order nervous?
05:01As handledo in the fall评-
05:03Adesso that in the trailer there's going to be some new weapons, there was maybe a
05:06tease to some additional customizationaco.
05:10Can you tell us about that?
05:14As far as the new stuff, it's sort of a combination of more of what you like and enjoyed about
05:22Wolfenstein,
05:23but with some new mechanics and stuff that make the game interesting.
05:26One of the things you saw in the trailer was this pipe mechanic that we added.
05:30It's a combination of a new melee weapon.
05:33You see Matt wielding it here.
05:35That gives you some opportunities to take down some of the heavier super soldiers that you come up against.
05:41Melee, climbing.
05:42But it also offers some traversal options.
05:44Yeah, we saw the climbing early on.
05:47It allows you to do some more exploration of gameplay space and some different traversal elements that we didn't have.
05:56We have some new guns as well.
05:58The bolt-action rifle, which we'll see later.
06:01The comp pistol, which is really awesome.
06:04It's basically a pocket rocket launcher.
06:07We also have a new shotgun in the game.
06:10Any time you can have a pocket rocket launcher, that's a good thing.
06:16Obviously, for folks like yourself who played the old Wolfenstein games,
06:20it's one of those things where you don't have to have played any of those,
06:23just like you don't have to play the New Order.
06:24But there's lots of little nods and stuff that if you're a fan of the franchise,
06:28you've been playing this now for 20 years or whatever,
06:31you're going to get a lot of that nostalgic effect out of this
06:35and getting to stomp around Castle Wolfenstein again.
06:37I mean, I really know that gamers appreciate that,
06:40whether they are being brought in into the new era and playing these games
06:46where they came from the old school, having those little throwbacks and Easter eggs.
06:51You can see here Matt's taking out one of the two guys that can call in extra reinforcements,
06:58and you can see it's giving him a notification.
07:01Getting hairy.
07:03I did mention don't die, right?
07:05Oh, I did.
07:05Oh.
07:05Don't throw grenades at yourself either.
07:08So, yeah, I tried to go stealthy first and I thought I was going to make it
07:11and things didn't go well.
07:14So, there we go.
07:16And just like the other game, you have the option to do that.
07:19If you want to play a little stealthy, that's not me.
07:22That's not necessarily my style.
07:23Certainly, there's parts where combat is unavoidable.
07:26Right, of course.
07:27You're not just going to tiptoe your way quietly through the whole thing,
07:29but there's definitely opportunities where you can decide to go more stealthy
07:33or more combat, and depending on how you do that,
07:36if you just want to go in guns blazing, you can.
07:38With a mini-gun.
07:38you're also going to end up fighting a lot more guys.
07:41Right.
07:42They're going to call in a lot more reinforcements
07:44and make it a lot tougher to deal with.
07:47So, looks like I got out of that okay.
07:50You did make it through.
07:52Glide.
07:53The one guy in the area is like,
07:55nope, I have a single job.
07:57One of the things to point out is while the New Order starts kind of pre-World War II
08:05when you're assaulting Death's Head Compound,
08:07the majority of the game takes place in the 1960s.
08:10Right.
08:11The old one takes place in the past.
08:12So, this is all sort of World War II era
08:15where the war is still going on with the Nazis
08:17and BJ is trying to help keep the Nazis from winning the war.
08:22So, a lot of what you see is going to be a little bit more retro technology.
08:25You're going to see kind of older versions of the Panzerhunds
08:28and the original versions of some of the super soldier technology.
08:30It's a little more sort of archaic compared to the New Order,
08:36but it's because this is when the Nazis were first starting to experiment with some of this technology.
08:40So, your weapons and tech are going to reflect that.
08:43It's always interesting from a design perspective, right?
08:47When you go back and you're dealing with weapons and or technology
08:52that maybe haven't been introduced to the story yet
08:55or like you mentioned, the timeline doesn't fit.
08:57So, is that challenging or is it kind of fun to go,
09:01okay, how are we going to tackle this one?
09:03Yeah, I mean, I think it offers a lot of flexibility.
09:05You know, designers are like anybody else.
09:08You don't want to just keep doing the same thing over and over again.
09:11And so, switching to a different era like this does give you some options.
09:15You can see here, Matt, using the traversal aspect we talked about.
09:17So, he can kind of hold himself up with one arm as he's climbed up with the pipes.
09:22And then, you know, again, we're talking about stealth versus combat.
09:24Use a silence pistol to take out the guard.
09:27But, yeah, it does offer, you know, designers and the team a chance to explore some new stuff
09:33and not kind of just do the same thing, same period over and over again.
09:36What would this have looked like for the Nazis back then?
09:39Get a little creative with it.
09:41Oh, go ahead.
09:42I was going to say, plus you get to do cool new kill animations.
09:46Pipe down.
09:49Also, kind of a staple of the Woop and Sign series is sort of like the secrets
09:54and the things that you find throughout the levels.
09:56I assume that we have plenty of those littered through us.
09:59Certainly plenty of that, again, where you're going to, as you're moving through,
10:02there's going to be unlockables that you can find and you get bonuses.
10:08Grenade and the Skull.
10:09Yes.
10:10Bonuses for finding and collecting all that stuff.
10:13But, again, that's purely optional and it's kind of up to folks.
10:16If you want to just go through and run and gun and have a good time,
10:19it's going to offer you hours of that.
10:21And if you want to go exploring and find all the other stuff, that's an option as well.
10:24What do you, which bucket do you fall into?
10:28I'm a run and gun guy.
10:29Okay, I am too.
10:30There's times where I use stealth mostly when I know it's an area where if they start calling in reinforcements,
10:37I'm really going to be in trouble, so I tend to be stealthy until I take out the two guys
10:41that call in the reinforcements.
10:43And when you take out the commanders, then I know I can start running and gun
10:47and not have to worry about dealing with a lot of extra enemies.
10:51So this is the new bolt-action rifle, and I've got the attachable scope right here.
10:56Pretty awesome.
10:58Needs a little time to reload, but definitely powerful.
11:07And, obviously, as Matt's showing here, cover is still an important thing in Wolfenstein,
11:12something that I think folks got used to the more they played through the new order,
11:16that standing out in the open, not always the best idea,
11:19so leaning from behind cover, above it, below it, from the side,
11:22and definitely important, as Matt's showing here.
11:24And it is an option with any weapon that you're using, whether you've got a scope or not,
11:28that you can use that to your advantage
11:29and not take a ton of damage while you're taking guys out.
11:32Yeah, I mean, I noticed even the cover system's incorporated into, like, the new, like, the climbing and whatnot.
11:38When he got to the top, there was that prompt to also be able to lean.
11:42Yep.
11:43I guess we'll see it right here, right?
11:44Yeah, you're able to do that.
11:46I think there's a guy up there.
11:47Maybe.
11:47We'll see.
11:48But, yeah, you can kind of go in any direction you want to use cover,
11:53and there's nobody there.
11:55So that's okay.
11:57Hey, buddy.
11:58Surprise.
12:06So we were in the catacombs.
12:07If you noticed, we fell through.
12:09It looks like I'm getting my way back to where I wanted to be.
12:15And just for those that are joining us, we are seeing the first shown gameplay here of the Old Blood,
12:23Wolfenstein, the Old Blood.
12:24And this was announced on Wednesday.
12:28And this is the first time that we've ever had a chance to check this out.
12:32So it's coming out in May, right?
12:33Yep, May 5th.
12:34It is going to be for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, so just next gen.
12:40Allowed the team to, honestly, to focus a lot more on what they were doing
12:44and not have to support as many platforms, which takes away a lot of dev time.
12:50Is five platforms hard to do?
12:51It turns out it is.
12:53Really?
12:54No.
12:55Having done that twice last year with Wolfen, the evil within,
12:58we can tell you, checking on five platforms simultaneously is a ton of work.
13:03Yeah, I can only imagine.
13:06I can only imagine.
13:07Boom.
13:08That's a nice grenade.
13:10So you guys, and I'd love to maybe talk a little bit more about all that grenade,
13:15you know, the concept of, you know, like the standalone versus DLC models.
13:20Because also, as a designer, publishers, you know, these are decisions you have to make
13:24and also depending on sort of the needs and demands of your audiences as well.
13:29So can you talk to us a little bit about taking this route?
13:33Yeah.
13:34I mean, I think the idea came from a couple of routes.
13:37Number one was it allowed us to act, sort of do it all in one thing,
13:43that trying to split stuff up meant every time you do one of those DLCs,
13:47each one of them is a separate certification process.
13:50It's a separate process of wrapping it up, getting everything done,
13:53and then you move on to the next one and you have to do it all over again.
13:55and you wrap all that stuff together, that's just that many fewer times
13:58that you're having to worry about how does all this play together
14:00and what problems do you have.
14:02We felt like we were able to do it in a pretty quick period of time.
14:06Sure.
14:06And that was certainly an advantage if we were doing this
14:08and it wasn't coming out until November, it probably would have been less likely.
14:11But, you know, the team worked pretty hard on putting something together
14:14that was both substantial but that we could do in a quick period of time.
14:19And then, obviously, you know, it's not something we've done a lot in the past
14:22with a digital-only release or being able to put it out digitally first,
14:26and that was appealing to us.
14:28Right.
14:29To have, you know, a low barrier of entry that's only $20
14:31that you don't have to have played the previous game.
14:33So if you were interested in Wolfenstein but, you know, didn't get it for your console or your PC,
14:39that we had something that was a little lower cost that, you know,
14:41you know, you come in and you get what we think is a pretty substantial amount of gameplay,
14:45and it's $20.
14:48And, you know, the reaction from the fans on Wednesday was pretty super positive.
14:52I mean, we obviously haven't done this kind of thing,
14:54but we've seen it done with other games.
14:56I think Far Cry saw a lot of success with Blood Dragon.
14:59Right.
15:00Folks like myself, I had a lot of fun with that.
15:02So we felt like it was a good fit for what we were trying to do,
15:06and we wanted to give it a try and see what folks thought.
15:09So we'll see how it goes, and I really like it.
15:12Maybe we can do more of this down the road.
15:13That's great.
15:14No, it's definitely a model that I'm a big fan of.
15:18You know, in this day and age, like you said, you know,
15:20also the days of loud and digital downloads,
15:24like it's getting more and more prominent in the gaming world.
15:28So not necessarily having to have one piece of software
15:32in order to continue to enjoy the experience, I think, is also...
15:35Well, and part of it for us is it depends on what that content is.
15:39In the case of Evil Within, you know, we are doing DLC.
15:43We did just do DLC, and it's coming out next week,
15:46and it made a lot more sense to have it fit as part of it,
15:49and honestly, it was a lot more difficult to have that be standalone.
15:51In the case of Wolfenstein, it's just different than a game like Skyrim, for example,
15:56where you're playing, playing, playing,
15:58and then you're adding content into your existing game.
15:59and this was going to be a standalone experience anyway.
16:02So, you know, it doesn't fit every situation, but it seemed to fit this one.
16:07You were asking before about collectibles.
16:09Matt just found some of the gold.
16:11Deep-sea diving.
16:13Yeah, so we think it's a good way to introduce it to both a new audience
16:17and, again, for folks like yourself who really loved Wolfenstein last year,
16:21and we sure appreciate everybody who bought it and played it
16:23and supported Machine Games and Bethesda,
16:26a way to give them something new to play that kind of fits what they like,
16:31but new and different.
16:33So tell me a little bit about just being able to write
16:37and create a story around this character, right?
16:40Like, BJ is actually, he has a lot of clout in the gaming world
16:45just because of who he is as a character.
16:47So I imagine it's got to be a lot of fun to be able to take control of him.
16:50One of the interesting things when we did the original Wolfenstein The New Order
16:54was it turns out, even though this is a franchise that's been around for a while,
16:58that BJ himself didn't have much of a personality.
17:01Right.
17:01He was just sort of a big-necked guy who shot Nazis.
17:04Right.
17:04And I think one of the things that The New Order, and rightfully so,
17:08got recognized for was adding a lot of character and story and narrative
17:11and giving him some context and making the choices that he was making meaningful
17:18and kind of understanding that, yeah, he kills Nazis,
17:20but it's really this guy who just wants to get back to having a normal life
17:24and a family, and the only way he can do it is to stop the guys
17:27who are trying to take over the world.
17:29So I think it was really fun and interesting for them to do that,
17:33to be able to kind of put a new direction on where this franchise is going to go
17:38going forward, that, you know, the action and the fun that, you know,
17:41we're showing here is obviously a big part of it,
17:44that it turns out that shooting, strangling, stabbing Nazis is still pretty fun.
17:48But adding more character and story to that experience can be meaningful,
17:52and I think it was great to see the reaction people had to all of that,
17:55to BJ and Anya and the other folks that we had in The New Order,
18:00and, you know, looking forward to the team being able to explore that going forward,
18:03because, you know, I think we did find at the end of the day that, you know,
18:07Wolfenstein does have a place that it is relevant.
18:09I think the Machine Games guys did a great job in bringing it back to relevance,
18:12and, you know, we're looking forward to down the road to post this,
18:17to seeing where those guys go, where this franchise goes next.
18:20So I have to ask a question because I haven't seen anything about it yet,
18:24but at the end of the trailer that opened up the segment,
18:27we have that part at the end where there's a shotgun,
18:29and he picks up the hacksaw, and he proceeds to make some modifications.
18:33Can you give us any additional information on that,
18:36or will we see anything here, or can you tell me?
18:40Well, certainly if we put it in the trailer, there's got to be something going on there.
18:43We wouldn't ever show you something that wasn't in the game.
18:46Ultimate tease.
18:47I will tell you this.
18:49We're not talking a whole lot about that yet,
18:52but I will tell you that there's a bit more of kind of the occult in the Old Blood
18:57than there was in the New Order.
18:59A bit of a nod to some of the previous games, like Castle Wolfenstein,
19:03where there was some more kind of occult-ish stuff going up,
19:06and bodies falling through the ceiling, and then being on fire,
19:10and getting back up again.
19:12Something's obviously going on there,
19:14but what's going on, and what BJ's going to have to deal with,
19:18we'll probably hold off talking about it a little bit.
19:21But you won't have to wait long.
19:22No, not at all.
19:22Maybe it'll be here before you know it.
19:24Not at all.
19:25Okay, that was good tease.
19:27That was good.
19:27Yeah, I'm okay with that.
19:28I'm okay with that.
19:29So I think we're going to jump ahead to another part.
19:32Okay.
19:34Let me just...
19:37That's fine.
19:37So if you've just joined us,
19:38this is the first time that you're ever seeing footage here of the Old Blood,
19:42Wolfenstein and the Old Blood.
19:43It's coming out on May 5th, 2015.
19:46Be available digitally on...
19:49Xbox Live, PSN, Steam, all your standard digital places.
19:56And, yeah, we're really excited to get it out, folks.
19:59It is Xbox One PC and PS4, so we're not doing it on 360 and PS3.
20:03That was a conscious decision to try and focus our time and attention and resources
20:08on getting it done more quickly and getting it out to, you know,
20:12to as many folks as possible and kind of having it be the same game
20:16and not worrying about last gen and this gen.
20:19Yeah, we're super excited.
20:20We're really close.
20:21What you're seeing here is obviously still in development,
20:23but we are pretty close to being done and wrapped
20:26and excited to get it to folks.
20:2920 bucks.
20:30I'm not asking a lot to jump in and you don't need the previous game.
20:34for, you know, a self-contained gaming experience.
20:38That's really fantastic.
20:42All right, so, Matt, tell us a little bit more about, like,
20:44where we've jumped ahead to here.
20:46Okay, so we got...
20:48Well, I was basically...
20:49I got the door open to get into Castle Wolfenstein,
20:53and now we skipped all that.
20:54So now we've jumped ahead to...
20:55I need to get the hell out of Castle Wolfenstein.
20:58So I am making my escape plan right now.
21:05and pull this lever.
21:08Matt, I saw, too, you ended just by the skin of your teeth.
21:12There was a couple times you were down to that 2-3 health, I noticed.
21:17It was a little rough, yeah.
21:18So hopefully I can survive here.
21:21A little pro tip.
21:22If you see a hole in the door,
21:23it might mean there's somebody waiting for you.
21:25Just shoot them.
21:26So that's that cover mechanic.
21:29Usually you've got to run like hell right here.
21:33Did I get hit with the throwing star?
21:36I think I just called the knife a throwing star.
21:46So, Matt, what's your favorite weapon?
21:50You know, I'm really liking the bolt-action rifle
21:53when I've got the scope on.
21:58Shotguns are always fun,
21:59and two shotguns are even more fun.
22:02And the comp pistol,
22:03being able to shoot grenade rocket things from your little...
22:07Yeah, so that was like the pocket rocket launcher?
22:11Yeah.
22:11I saw that in the previous run.
22:13Because grenades can be pretty difficult to find.
22:15we don't put a ton of them in the level,
22:17so having not only grenades that you can throw,
22:21but also having a weapon that shoots them as well
22:23is a pretty handy one-two
22:24when you've got, you know, groups of enemies.
22:27Sure.
22:27And you'll find quite a bit in this game
22:28you're dealing with groups of enemies.
22:31Oh.
22:34All right, this is getting hairy.
22:36I'm getting out of here.
22:38Hold the lever.
22:41So Matt's making his way onto this cable car
22:44that's going to help him get out of work.
22:47You saw snippets of that as well in the trailer,
22:50and the guy's did some really great stuff,
22:51both visually and from a gameplay standpoint.
22:54Yeah, I'm not dealing with him right now.
22:56Too much.
23:00Peace out, Cub Scout.
23:05There you go.
23:07So scenic journey.
23:09Here we are.
23:10Well, I'm sure it'll be a very quiet ride.
23:12Yeah, from here, really, honestly,
23:14the rest of this level is like a really pleasant
23:16hour and a half just dried on a cable car
23:18where nothing actually happens.
23:19Have a cigar, just flax.
23:22The true Alps simulator here.
23:25It's like the version of Die Hard
23:26where the terrorist forgot to show up at the hotel,
23:29just hanging out, talking to his ex-wife.
23:30It's just a Christmas party.
23:32That's it, guys.
23:41Almost.
23:42Almost at it.
23:44So, yeah.
23:46The rival cable car.
23:49The west side story of this Wolfenstein.
23:53Fierce competition.
23:55So he dropped a grenade.
23:57That's helpful for me.
24:02There we go.
24:04Or he's been taking grenade throwing lessons from you
24:06and just throwing them at himself.
24:08Hey.
24:09There was that questionable grenade toss early on,
24:13but I thought Matt could have just said,
24:15well, in case they came at me,
24:17I threw sort of a defensive grenade, if you will.
24:20But at least...
24:22In truth, we know that's not what he was actually doing.
24:25Of course.
24:29There we go.
24:30Did we get them all?
24:31Oh.
24:32Hello.
24:33There's quite a few baddies on that guy.
24:36Yeah, you were...
24:37You know, we were talking before about stealth versus combat
24:40and opportunities to do that.
24:42You're not stealthing your way out of this.
24:44Exactly.
24:44This is obviously one of those opportunities
24:46where the Nazis have to die
24:48and you're going to have to fight your way out.
24:50Yeah, if you duck down,
24:51they're not just going to go away.
24:53Here's another example of being able to use your pipe
24:57for opportunities.
24:59Oh, okay.
25:06And, I mean, I have to say, like,
25:08you know, similar to the New Order,
25:10there's a...
25:12The game, there's looked to be some unforgiving parts.
25:15Like, we're not dealing with enemies
25:17that have terrible aim.
25:18They're going to hit you.
25:20It seems like even if you are going to be run and gunning,
25:22you still have to, like, be smart about it.
25:25It's definitely challenging, for sure.
25:28We can neither confirm nor deny
25:30that Matt is getting any additional artificial help
25:33on this level.
25:34Keep him from dying repeatedly.
25:36We'll put it down to his unbelievable skill.
25:39I'm skilled.
25:39Shooters.
25:41But, yeah, it's definitely a tough game.
25:43Look at that.
25:43Look at that.
25:44Come on.
25:45It's definitely a game that is challenging
25:47and certainly on the...
25:49As with the New Order,
25:50on the tough or difficult...
25:51Right, yeah, absolutely.
25:53It can really be a challenge,
25:54particularly when you're dealing with
25:55some of these big heavies like this guy here.
25:57they are not easy to take down.
25:58Yeah, that was actually one of the things
26:00I really enjoyed about the New Order.
26:03So that's what I'm looking forward to,
26:05the Old Blood,
26:05because I feel like it has that same feeling of challenge.
26:09Like, there's not going to be much hand-holding here.
26:12Yeah, and we don't want it to be too one note
26:15where it's always the same.
26:16So the way that that challenge comes across
26:18and the different types of combat challenges
26:20you have to deal with
26:21will vary from time to time.
26:23That's probably not a good sign.
26:25Yeah.
26:33She may recognize
26:34those are the fighters
26:36that you end up facing
26:37in the early part.
26:38Right.
26:39BJ's assaulting Death Sight's compound.
26:44Everybody's got thrones.
26:46Oh, these damn things.
26:47I swear to God.
26:48The new time,
26:48those things managed to kill me
26:50in the new order.
26:55Attack from above,
26:57side,
26:59hand thrones.
27:00This is a lot right here.
27:01This is a chaos.
27:05All right.
27:06One drone down.
27:08Got to shoot them in the leg.
27:12They're shooting right now.
27:13It's not very good, though.
27:15It's like a old G.I. Joe cartoon.
27:17They're all going past me right now.
27:21They are a bit far.
27:23Accuracy length
27:24is not fantastic.
27:29Got them all.
27:31Hope that didn't go well.
27:35Uh-oh.
27:36Hope to brought skis.
27:43And will he survive?
27:45We don't know.
