02:10Before we get into today's livestream
02:12About starships and starship construction
02:16Actually a Firaxis employee named Andy Clark
02:19A guy who's one of the artists working on starships
02:21Andy actually created the supremacy and the purity starships for our game
02:25Yeah Andy is also a Lego genius
02:28His design for the Doctor Who Lego set has just been officially approved
02:32So Andy's design is going to go out as an official Lego kit
02:36That's really cool

02:53But we're here to talk about starships this week
02:55And last week you gave us a quick overview to the game
02:58Last week we saw kind of the first couple moves in the game
03:01We built our first starship
03:03We went out on a really quick mission
03:05I thought this week we might do something a little more challenging
03:08Get into some of the tactics and strategies that are involved in combat
03:11And also work in a little more starship customization
03:15Okay
03:17So we have a situation here which might come up maybe a little later in the game
03:22We're surrounded by the other civilizations
03:26And we think we're ready to take one of them on
03:28Alright, well let's jump into our game here real quick
03:31So this is the home planet of Elodie and her kingdom
03:34This is Libre 88 right there
03:36Exactly
03:37And we notice she's already built a wonder
03:39The jumpstart wonder
03:40Which is going to give her the first move in the battle
03:43So it's something we're going to want to kind of take into account
03:46As we prepare our strategy
03:49But let's travel to Libre 88 and see what's going on
03:56She's not too happy about the fact that we're intruding on her territory
04:03So that's possibly understandable
04:05But we are prepared
04:09Here's kind of a preview of the supremacy fleet that we're going to be running into
04:16And here of course we have our crew
04:18That's available to help us out
04:19With any advice that we might need
04:24Let's see what's unique about this planet
04:26Pete, what do you think?
04:27I think that sounds good
04:28Oh, highly reflected asteroid fields will block lasers and cannons
04:33That's interesting
04:33That's something to think about as we prepare for this battle
04:37Now we definitely want to know the composition of the enemy fleet
04:42So let's look into that
04:43Looks like she's got two starships and three megabots
04:48Okay, so megabots are defensive only starships
04:52They only come into play on this particular planet
04:55But she has really got some pretty powerful defenses available at this planet
05:00So we're going to have to, again, take that into account
05:03As we put our fleet together
05:05Now fortunately, we've saved up quite a bit of energy
05:08So we can customize our fleet for this upcoming battle
05:13Okay, our customization screen
05:16We've already built a third starship
05:18And we're going to give each of these starships a different role in this upcoming battle
05:22I think our flagship here is going to be kind of a sniper
05:25Going to have some long-range weapons
05:29We're going to take the cannon off
05:31Add some lasers
05:32Because lasers are less affected by range than cannon are
05:36Right
05:37Okay
05:37Lasers are kind of our long-range weapons
05:40Those megabots kind of worry me a bit
05:42So I'm going to put some armor and some shields
05:45Now we notice our speed has turned red here
05:48That's warning us that we've got a very slow starship
05:50And speed is very important in battles
05:53So we can have to bump up our engine power here as well
05:56To get some decent speed out of this
05:58So we've got some good lasers, some good defenses
06:01And I think this ship is ready to go
06:04Okay
06:04So we should build one that takes kind of a different approach
06:08What if we wanted to make something that was more like an up-close brawler sort of ship
06:12Well, cannon are the perfect weapon for that type of ship
06:15They are awesome at the short range
06:19We're going to upgrade our cannon here
06:21Get rid of those lasers
06:23Again, if we're going to go up close
06:25We're definitely going to need those defensive systems
06:27The shields and the armor
06:30Again, we've slowed our ship down significantly
06:32And especially if we want to get up close
06:34We're going to need some speed
06:35So we're going to bump that up
06:37Now, do different modules slow your ship down at different rates?
06:41Will a shield make your ship slower than, say, tacking on more armor will?
06:44Armor is definitely, has a lot of weight to it
06:46It's going to slow your ship down more than shields, for example
06:49And some of these other systems actually have very little effect
06:51Things like stealth and sensors, which are light
06:54Okay
06:54Shield armor and fighters are probably the heaviest systems
06:58And they will slow your ship down the most
06:59Okay
07:00Speaking of fighters
07:01I think we're going to need some fighters in this battle
07:03So we're going to put a ship together
07:05That's going to kind of hang back
07:08Launch fighters and torpedoes
07:10So torpedoes are long-range weapons
07:12Fighters are long-range weapons
07:13So we've got a ship here
07:15Whose role is going to be kind of the hang back
07:17Not going to need a whole lot of speed to do that
07:20But we still want a reasonable amount of speed
07:23And once those fighters and torpedoes are done
07:26Why don't we give her some weapons here

07:30So we've got three different ships
07:33With three different roles
07:35Hopefully that will be enough to kind of take us into battle

09:14That we cranked up the difficulty
09:16For this week's mission
09:17So previously at PAX South
09:19You were showing things on easy difficulty
09:21Last week you showed them on
09:22Kind of average difficulty
09:24And now we've really popped it up
09:26So it's hard
09:27This is the hard difficulty level
09:30That was your idea, Pete
09:32If I'm not mistaken
09:33I have nothing but good ideas
09:34That's why they gave me the red shirt
09:36All right
09:37So this is our sniper here
09:40Now the special conditions here
09:42Are that the asteroids
09:43Are going to block fire completely
09:45So we're going to have to find
09:46A nice open line of fire
09:49To use our sniper
