00:09Is Bollywood's era of larger-than-life gravity-defying heroes finally ending?
00:14Because filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma believes a single film may have just changed the rules
00:19of the game.
00:20And that film is Dhurandar 2 The Revenge.
00:24Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, Dhurandar 2 The Revenge hit theatres
00:29on March 19.
00:30And within just one day, the spy thriller reportedly crossed Rs 100 crore worldwide.
00:37The film is a sequel to Dhar's 2025 blockbuster Dhurandar, but early reactions suggest the
00:43sequel may have gone even further, redefining how action films are made in Bollywood.
00:49Critics and audiences alike are praising the film's grounded storytelling and restrained
00:55action.
01:06But one of the loudest reactions has come from one of Bollywood's most outspoken filmmakers,
01:13Ram Gopal Verma.
01:15In a fiery social media post, Verma called the film a cinematic disruptor.
01:20And he didn't stop there.
01:22He described the movie as a horror for filmmakers who rely on dumb-down, over-the-top cinema.
01:30According to Verma, the success of Dhurandar 2 exposes the weakness of Bollywood's long-standing
01:35formula.
01:43For decades, Bollywood action films have celebrated the larger-than-life hero, a character who defeats
01:49dozens of enemies without breaking a sweat.
01:52But Verma believes Dhurandar 2 has shattered that myth.
01:55In his words, the film killed all those heroes who never bleed and never feel pain.
02:02Instead, Ranveer Singh's character is flawed, vulnerable and deeply human.
02:07An anti-hero who doesn't rely on spectacle, but on intellect, strategy and psychological
02:12depth.
02:13Verma also praised the film's action sequences, calling them raw and real.
02:18A stark contrast, he says, to conventional mass entertainers, where physics is a joke and
02:25gravity is non-existent.
02:27According to him, once audiences experienced authentic action, the exaggerated spectacle of
02:33older films would begin to look cheap, fake and embarrassingly ridiculous.
02:39But Verma's message wasn't just praise.
02:41It was also a warning to the film industry.
02:44He called the success of Dhurandar 2 a verdict on formulaic cinema.
02:48In fact, Verma said the film has effectively cut off the head of movies that prioritize spectacle
02:55over storytelling.
02:57His advice to filmmakers currently making traditional masala films?
03:01Go back to the drawing board, because the audience, he believes, is already moving
03:05on.
03:06Verma has gone even further, calling the Dhurandar franchise a quantum leap for Indian cinemas.
03:12He even compared its impact to legendary classics like Shole and Mughal Azzam.
03:18Now, the big question is, is Dhurandar 2 just another blockbuster, or is it the film that
03:25finally changed Bollywood forever?
