00:15Hello everyone and welcome to the second episode of Milestone's Dev Diary.
00:20We're showing you every aspect, even the most technical, of one of their masterpieces.
00:24Sebastian Loeb, Rally Evo.
00:26Today I'm here with Sergio Rocco, lead artist at Milestone, who will give us some really interesting insights.
00:32Hi Sergio.
00:33Hi Dino.
00:34Look, I know that, as they say, beauty is in the details.
00:37And every detail of this game is masterfully crafted.
00:40Like the logo, for example. How did the idea for the logo come up?
00:44Well, right from the outset in designing the logo,
00:47we wanted to highlight the very foundation on which we based the entire game design.
00:51Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo encompasses three concepts.
00:56Sebastian Loeb, the driver, the know-how, the experience, a world-class champion,
01:02who, to help our title development, provided us his extensive expertise from the very beginning.
01:08Rallying, a top racing class, and Evo, whose etymology already suggests progress over time.
01:13And that's exactly what we wanted to highlight. Evolution.
01:17I was lucky enough to see some preview of the game, because it's all top secret.
01:22And I want to thank you for the opportunity.
01:24I have a question, though. What's the game color scheme?
01:29Well, with the color, we wanted to evoke tints such as sand or earth, the very essence of rallying.
01:35Hence the yellow-orange color.
01:38Basically, we tried to analyze the Sebastian Loeb official team logo,
01:43and keeping that as a base, we tried to adapt it to our composition needs.
01:49The result is a very minimalistic interface, but functional and elegant at the same time.
01:55It's an interface that removes every filter between the player and the gaming experience.
02:01The user will feel immediately thrown into the world of rallying.
02:06I know that for the design and development of the tracks, you followed a radically different path.
02:11Is that true?
02:13Yeah, that's absolutely right. Track design is surely the biggest new aspect from this year.
02:19We've developed a system that, through our extensive filming on-site,
02:23with technology such as GPS-enabled, Garmin-powered cameras and video cameras,
02:30gives us a preliminary track geometry, which faithfully includes heights, ramps, turns and hairpin turns.
02:39Then they get assembled and dressed up with our new shading system.
02:44These shaders are used both for tracks and vehicles.
02:49Of course, this allows us to achieve a highly photorealistic impact.
02:54The final stage in the project development is to put vegetation along the tracks.
03:00For the vegetation, too, we were really careful in the faithful reproduction of the kind of plants you can really
03:06find along a rally track.
03:09And after positioning all of it, trees, shrubs, grass, the tracks are nearly 100% like the real thing.
03:17We got an almost exact replica, inch by inch.
03:22For example, your colleague Alex told me about a race called Pikes Peak.
03:27I know that the track of this race is a lot more challenging than the others. Am I right?
03:32You certainly are. In fact, Pikes Peak isn't just a huge challenge among rally fans.
03:39It's also a spectacular achievement in the field of 3D design.
03:43We're talking about an asset that's 20 kilometers long, with a dramatic height drop from start to finish.
03:49All of that in an area of more than 20 square kilometers.
03:53The whole thing is an incredibly meticulous replica.
03:57And the impact of that carries over into the gaming experience.
04:01Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo is the first next-gen only Milestone title. Why is that?
04:07Well, we went for the new gaming platforms because that way we could exploit the huge processing power of the
04:13new models.
04:14And that allowed us to bring further detail to our game environments and to our vehicles.
04:20The end result is maximum graphic impact.
04:26Thank you so much, Sergio Rocco, lead artist at Milestone, for explaining in simple terms the technology and the very
04:33complex graphics behind Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo.
04:36I'm not talking as a host, but as a simple gamer now, and I can't wait to play.
04:41You're giving us an engaging and charged up game. A perfect milestone power challenge for all the gamers.
04:48Myself included.
04:49I accept the challenge.
04:52What about you?
04:55You're scared.
04:58You're losing it.
