00:12Hi folks, my name is Henrik Foreus
00:14and I am the Game Director
00:16at Paradox Development Studio.
00:17I'm gonna talk today about
00:19Horselords, which is the upcoming expansion
00:22for Crusader Kings 2.
00:23This is an expansion about
00:24the Mongols and the Turkic peoples
00:27of the steppes. Now, the cool
00:29thing about these Horselords
00:31is that they don't really care
00:33about holdings, about having
00:35cities and temples and castles
00:37and so on. Instead of holdings
00:39and attacks from the holdings, they simply
00:41have a population and you don't really
00:43know where this population is located.
00:45All you care about is that it's big and
00:47that it's growing and that it provides you with
00:49a lot of fighters for your hordes.
00:52When nomads raise armies
00:53they simply draw
00:55from their manpower pool
00:57and they choose which type of regiment
00:59they want to raise and basically
01:01that's what they get. For nomads
01:03prestige is very important.
01:05It's actually the most prestigious sun
01:07that inherits, but you can fortunately
01:09set it up a little bit by
01:11sending your sons out to serve
01:13as mercenaries in the world.
01:15And this is pretty cool because then they turn
01:17up as dynamic mercenary companies
01:19that you can hire. If you do this
01:21correctly and you send the right sons
01:23out, yeah, well, maybe your favorite son
01:25will actually inherit. You really don't
01:27care about your subjugated peoples
01:29that much. What you do care about is
01:31the other major clans. So
01:33we have added a new screen where you can
01:35keep track of these clans.
01:37Each clan actually has a kind of opinion
01:39about you. It's a bit more involved
01:41than just keeping some guy happy.
01:43You need to keep these people pleased
01:45with your mighty leadership.
01:47There are ways of alleing
01:49with these clans. You can
01:50become a blood brother by swearing
01:53a blood oath.
01:54You can also kind of declare your hostility
01:57towards them. So if you're playing one of
01:58these major clans, you can
02:00declare a blood feud, or a
02:02blood feud can happen, and then
02:04you're free to attack them and take
02:06territory off them. People love
02:08the old gods where we introduced the
02:10raiding system of the
02:12pagans. Nomads have
02:14a little bit of similar thing. They can
02:16raid, of course, but they can also destroy
02:18holdings that they've taken, which will
02:20give them some loot and pillage, and of
02:22course, it will clear out the land so
02:24that it serves as a better population
02:26base that they can then draw manpower
02:28from. Another cool thing we added in this
02:30expansion is the Silk Road. The Silk Road
02:33passes from China
02:34through Central Asia into Europe,
02:36and there's another path
02:38which passes along the coast of India
02:40and up into the Persian Gulf
02:43and the Red Sea. And all
02:44the rulers along the way can actually
02:46build little trade posts along the route
02:49as if they were merchant republics.
02:51Now, the really cool thing is that
02:53if one of the holdings along the path
02:55is occupied, the
02:56trade will be rerouted along
02:58the other path, basically. So you can
03:00mess with people further down the line
03:02and manipulate the way that the trade
03:04passes from China to Europe.
03:07Then we have tributaries.
03:09This is something that people have asked
03:11for a long time. Basically, it's the ability
03:12to force someone to become your
03:14tributary. You can declare a war
03:16and if you win, they will become
03:18your tributaries and have to pay
03:20you some money. And they can also be
03:22called into your wars. The only
03:24downside, really, is that you will be
03:26expected to help them in their wars.
03:28As usual, of course, along with this
03:31expansion, we're also releasing
03:32a lot of free content.
03:34The main focus for us this time around
03:36is that we basically focused on fixing
03:38old bugs in the game, so it should be
03:40a much smoother experience to play.
03:42Of course, we've also extended the map a
03:44little bit. Not actually the edge of
03:46the map, but we've added provinces
03:48in the Tarim Basin and Western
03:51Mongolia, basically, to fit the
03:52theme of the Horselords expansion.
03:55Then we've added something we call
03:56fort, which is a little holding
03:59type that you can build either in
04:00hostile territory or in your own territory.
04:02This is necessary if you're playing
04:04against the hordes on the steppe, because
04:06they have empty provinces and if you want to
04:08occupy that, you need to build a fort in
04:10the province unless you also want to leave a
04:12little force of men standing around
04:14there. We've also changed
04:16the way that characters lead
04:18regiments and armies.
04:20So now your marshal and you
04:22and a number of other characters that
04:24you pick are actually commanders
04:26and can lead flanks and regiments
04:29and no one else. I should
04:30also stress that with this patch
04:33we've added a lot of convenience
04:34features. You can right-click now
04:36on coats of arms, as well as
04:38portraits, as well as holdings, to
04:40perform all the kinds of actions
04:42versus these entities in the game
04:44which makes the graphical interface
04:46much neater. If you want to read
04:48more about this, there's a whole series
04:50of written dev diaries out there
04:52and of course the expansion will be
04:54released on July the 14th.
04:56It's one of the biggest ones we've done
04:58when it comes to sheer weight of
05:00features.
05:01you
