00:06In part 1, we looked at the world of The Witcher Wild Hunt.
00:11And in part 2, we looked at the mechanics you were going to be using to traverse that world.
00:16But in this video, we're going to look at what you will be doing in that world.
00:21The jobs you will take, the games you will play, the people that you will meet,
00:27and the conversations that you will have.
00:29And, of course, we'll be looking at the story you're going to live.
00:50No Witcher game would be complete without a few mini-games, some physical or mental challenges,
00:57some games of luck, perhaps fist-fighting, arm-wrestling or rolling dice.
01:04And in Witcher 3, the game is Gwent.
01:08You strike me as a man of the world.
01:10Are you familiar with Gwent?
01:11No, and I don't have time to learn.
01:14But the rules are quite simple.
01:15Come, let's play.
01:17It's a card game that simulates a battle.
01:20You have rows, battle lines, so to speak, and you place your pieces on the board, your cards,
01:26on the board, each round, and try to win.
01:31Or maybe.
01:33You see, Gwent seems to have quite a strategic aspect to it.
01:38So that perhaps, sometimes, it's actually better to lose a round.
01:43So that you make your enemy use up his major cards.
01:48And in general, it actually looks very interesting.
01:53It looks like it's going to be an enjoyable game in of itself.
01:57Now, I believe you can actually find cards on your travels.
02:02You could buy them or loot them and add them to your deck.
02:05And this will give you an advantage when you're playing.
02:09I also think there are tournaments, organized events where you can actually enter and win great prizes.
02:16So there are quests completely revolving around the idea of playing Gwent.
02:23All in all, I'm actually quite surprised how much I'm looking forward to trying this game out.
02:28Because I'm fairly well known for hating minigames with a passion.
02:34And not only did I not hate this one, I actually enjoyed it.
02:39And really kind of want to get good at it.
02:42If you ever find yourself in Oxenfurt and wish to play a true master, ask for Stepan.
02:47A simple innkeep by trade, but a true maestro when it comes to Gwent.
02:52I'll remember that.
02:53Thanks.
02:54Obviously, in a story-driven game such as Witcher Wild Hunt,
03:00NPCs and the conversations you have with them are very important.
03:14The NPCs in The Wild Hunt are really well done.
03:17They look great, there's a lot of variety.
03:21But more than anything, the dialogue is really, really good.
03:25It's well written, it's well delivered.
03:28They've got some great voice acting including such actors as Charles Dance, who plays the Emperor.
03:35Do you believe I drag you here in the middle of a war to discuss a rumour?
03:40I think anyone can be wrong, even an Emperor.
03:45I had forgotten how insolent you can be.
03:47You may have heard of him in TV shows such as The Game of Thrones.
03:52He is Tywin Lannister, and he makes an exceptionally good Emperor.
03:58But it's also the way the conversations flow.
04:01The dialogue that Geralt has with NPCs just, it feels a lot more fluid than in previous games.
04:07You have a little more control over, you know, the sort of things you're going to say.
04:12It almost feels like Geralt has mellowed a little in his old age.
04:16He can actually almost be pleasant now, rather than constantly being unpleasant.
04:22What happened here?
04:25Oh, got a wee bit chilly the night, so I set fire to my forge.
04:29Got it nice and roaring. Roasted some wieners.
04:32What do you think happened, dimwit?
04:35Some bugger set alight me, me workshop.
04:38I've lost everything. Everything!
04:44Sorry.
04:46Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that Geralt has had a personality transplant and become Mr. Charming.
04:53He's still blunt, rough, to the point.
04:57He's still very threatening and can be very, very unpleasant.
05:02I mean, if you want to play him completely unpleasant, you can...
05:06Go away.
05:07Or I'll kill you.
05:09It's just occasionally now, you get the option to actually have a civil conversation.
05:15And again, it depends on who you're having a conversation with.
05:18and be almost, almost pleasant.
05:22At this point, doubt I'll ever marry.
05:25You keep the coin from Mandy, her wedding.
05:28Raise a toast to my health then.
05:30Thank you, Master Witcher.
05:33Those warm words, you've a good heart.
05:34And of course, good dialogue really does help make the people feel real.
05:41Which makes the choices that you make, the things that you do around the world, feel that much more real.
05:47When you build a kind of personal connection with some of these NPCs,
05:52what happens to them really means something to you.
05:56And of course, this is pretty important because understanding the consequences of the choices you have made
06:03is a big part of the Witcher experience, at least for me it is.
06:08And of course, that brings us neatly on to the subject of quests.
06:12Both the main quest and the side quests.
06:18Now, obviously, Geralt has a main quest.
06:22The one that sort of drives the main story.
06:24However, there are a lot of other things to do in the Witcher's world.
06:29And Geralt is a Witcher and his skills are in demand.
06:34So, you will constantly find people who ask you to do things.
06:38You will find the typical board with lots of notices, with normal tasks and even Witcher contracts.
06:46And whilst I've only scratched the surface of these quests, I can tell you they felt really well done.
06:53They felt very personal.
06:55They felt as if you weren't just doing some random task.
06:59You were doing something that was important to someone.
07:02Someone really wanted you to succeed at what you were doing because either their life or someone else's life depended
07:09on it.
07:09Or perhaps their livelihood or something.
07:11They had something invested in it.
07:14You understood what that investment was.
07:17Carts riddled with arrows.
07:19Interesting.
07:20I should take a look around.
07:22And thus, it felt more real.
07:24So, it's not just FedEx quests of, alright, so if I want to defeat this creature, I have to defeat
07:29the three totems or whatever.
07:31There's a story behind basically everything that you do in order to get closer to the beast or your target.
07:38And you also have things like Witcher contracts where you had to go off and kill various beasts.
07:43But they're not just simple tasks of go to point A, kill creature, come home, get reward.
07:50No.
07:51In this game, you're going to play the part of the hunter.
07:54You're going to try and figure out what your prey is doing and why they are doing it.
08:00You're going to be using all of your skills.
08:02You're going to use something called the Witcher sense to be able to track the animal or find clues as
08:09to a ghost's existence.
08:11Why? Why is this ghost here?
08:14Bloodstains. Barely visible.
08:17Someone was dragged this way.
08:19Someone who was still alive.
08:21What do you need to do to defeat a certain monster?
08:25And why is that monster where they are?
08:28Why are they now killing humans in the neighborhood?
08:31What drove them out of their natural habitat?
08:34There's a lot of preparation, of course, and we have still a lot of focus on that because Geralt is
08:40also a pre-emptive fighter.
08:42So this is an important thing that comes from, for example, monster hunting.
08:47That you do a little research into the thing that you are going to fight based on local lore, people's
08:55opinions and feedback and events happening.
08:57All will collect a bit of information that will result in knowledge based on the monster you are going to
09:06fight.
09:06And that will always come with some extra information like what are its weaknesses, what kind of potions or things
09:13or bones you need to have at your disposal to fight it more efficiently.
09:18Female. Larvae and her wounds have already hatched. Been dead at least a week.
09:24Heather Griffin must be a male.
09:25All of these things will help you track and kill your prey and they're all very important.
09:33And you end up feeling more like a detective, more like a true hunter than just somebody doing quests.
09:43Beak tips worn, grey hairs in the coat, ten, twelve years old.
09:49There's a lot of really, really nicely and well written information that you can do.
09:53So it's not just data. It's not just distances, sizes of feathers, whatever. It's part of the lore.
10:01And once again, this kind of feature brilliantly emphasizes the nature of choices in this game.
10:08The fact that nothing you do is clearly good or evil.
10:13that looked at from another perspective, perhaps the monster's perspective or the ghost's perspective.
10:19You might be doing something, well, bad.
10:23And this is an incredible thing. This is something that has been there in the Witcher series.
10:28And of course, I am very glad not just to see it still in the Wild Hunt, but to see
10:34it emphasized.
10:36And you shouldn't think that the effect these quests have is just on you.
10:41It also affects the world, so if you clear an area of monsters, if you take a task to do
10:49something there,
10:50freeze an area of whatever was hunting there, sometimes people will move in.
10:54A village will spring up where an abandoned village used to be.
10:58A fully thriving village will now appear with traders, perhaps with new quests and so on.
11:04And so, as you travel through the land, you are actually going to have a very real effect on it.
11:10And for all I know, an effect on your main quest.
11:15On the subject of the main quest, obviously, I have to be careful not to give too many spoilers.
11:22Although, that's not that difficult because I didn't play enough to really get very deep into that storyline.
11:30However, I can tell you, not only is it very, very well delivered, but it's delivered in a way that
11:37will allow players who are new to the Witcher series to pick it up and play without much trouble.
11:44Obviously, if you have either read the books or played the previous two games, you will understand the backstory far
11:52better.
11:53You will have a deeper understanding of the characters' relationships.
11:56But honestly, if you're completely new to the series and you're wondering whether you can jump in to this game
12:03and follow what is going on, the answer is yes.
12:07The game does a very good job of telling you all of the really important things without it being too
12:14obvious that they're telling you.
12:16The story has a kind of dark intrigue feeling to it, as well as an adventure. It also feels a
12:24little complex underneath.
12:26There are alliances that are a little unexpected. You'll find yourself being suspicious of people you consider friends or even
12:33loved ones.
12:34You're always questioning the motives and trying to spot the angle someone else has got.
12:41This kind of thing is pretty typical for Geralt of Rivia, so no big surprise.
12:47Just keep in mind that I didn't play too far into the main story.
12:51However, from everything I've seen so far, from the story to the incredible open world,
12:58I think this game has got all the ingredients needed to become a truly great game.
13:04This could be one of the best games of 2015.
13:08But of course, it is too early to say.
13:11The only thing I can say for certain is I am really looking forward to playing this game.
13:18There is absolutely no doubt on this.
13:21I will be playing The Witcher Wild Hunt.
13:35And with that, ladies and gentlemen, we have come to the end of my preview of The Witcher Wild Hunt.
13:42I do realise I have almost certainly not answered every single question that you have,
13:47and there are one or two other things I would like to talk about, including, for example, modding.
13:53But I'm going to be leaving that for a live podcast, a Q&A session that I'm going to be
13:58doing over on my Twitch channel on Sunday, the 3rd of May.
14:03Obviously, that's a few days away.
14:05If you would like to join me for that and ask your questions, you are more than welcome.
14:10I will also be giving away several copies of The Witcher 2, Assassins of Kings, courtesy of CD Projekt Red.
14:19And I will try to answer as many questions as I can.
14:24Although I suspect many of them are going to be about the beards.
14:28If you're new to my channel, don't ask.
14:32Just, you'll get used to it.
14:34It is going to start at 9pm, and I will leave a link down below that will tell you the
14:40time in your own time zone, as well as a link to my channel.
14:45And so all that's left to do now is give a big thank you to CD Projekt Red for inviting
14:51me to an incredible preview event.
14:54And, of course, a big thank you to you, the viewer.
14:58Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I hope to see you again.
15:04Thank you.
