00:03Hi, I'm Tim Schafer, and 15 years ago I started Double Fine Productions, for a lot of reasons,
00:08but mostly because I wanted to make a game, a really specific game actually,
00:12about a young acrobat who runs away from his family's circus to become a psychic secret agent.
00:16A game where every level is set inside someone's mental world,
00:19where you literally fight their demons and wrestle their nightmares.
00:22It's a game with surprises and action and fun and a couple of weird parts and some jokes in there.
00:28A game called Psychonauts.
00:30And now I'd like to make another one, and I need your help.
00:34The original Psychonauts was shipped on April 19, 2005, and it won Eurogamer's Game of the Year.
00:39And when G4TV listed the best Xbox games of that generation, Psychonauts was their number six.
00:44It sold a couple hundred thousand copies, went out of print, and then faded off into the sunset forever.
00:49Or so it seems.
00:51In 2011, we got the rights of the game back.
00:53We updated it, republished it, and in the last five years, it's actually sold double what it did in the
00:57first five years.
00:58So instead of fading away, the power of Psychonauts has only grown.
01:14So, there are people out there who like Psychonauts, and there are people out there who want more Psychonauts.
01:19And I know, because they tweet at me all the time, saying, when will there be a sequel to Psychonauts?
01:23And I'm sick of saying, I don't know, maybe someday, never say never, ha ha.
01:27I want to say, yeah, let's do this.
01:31Can we do this?
01:33Yes, here's our plan.
01:35We're going to ask for $3.3 million here, from you lovely people, because that's what you generously gave us
01:40the first time we did this.
01:42And just like we did with that game, Double Fine will be contributing a significant amount of the budget itself.
01:47We will also be working with an external partner who will bring additional funding.
01:51None of these pieces, on their own, could fund the game.
01:54But together, they make it possible to create a sequel worthy of Psychonauts.
01:58The campaign for Broken Age took the world by surprise.
02:01It proved, among other things, that people still want adventure games.
02:07Which is great, but what about another kind of game?
02:10What happened to 3D action-adventure platformers with stylized graphics and color and humor?
02:15Where are those games?
02:16That's something that I really wish there were more of, and I think other people out there do too.
02:21And do you know what?
02:21We don't have to wait for someone to tell us that the games we love are coming back in style.
02:25We can make it happen on our own.
02:27But only if you're into it.
02:30Are you into it?
02:32I'm into it.
02:34I'm so into it.
02:35I'm so into it.
02:37I'm into it.
02:38I'm so into it.
02:41I'm into it.
02:43I...
02:43I'm into it.
02:45We're into it!
02:47Yeah!
02:56T'ambe in to it
02:59DUDE, WHY ARE YOU EVEN ASKING ME?
03:01YOU KNOW I'M INTO IT
03:03WAIT A SECONT
03:04THAT'S THE ONE I WAS IN, RIGHT?
03:05I'M INTO IT
03:08OH, SORRY
03:09BUT I AM
03:11AND I HOPE YOU ARE TOO
03:12SO THANKS FOR WATCHING
03:13AND THANKS FOR BACKING
