00:03In 63 days, the Earth will be no more.
00:07On December 4th, humanity will come face to face with its greatest trial yet, to survive,
00:13when Xenoblade Chronicles X hits store shelves.
00:16In the remaining days, we must prepare for our journey across the stars
00:20and through the uncharted wilds of planet Mira, our new home.
00:30To keep you informed and vigilant, the builders of the legacy after the destruction of Earth,
00:35also known as Blade, have assembled this five-part video series to ready you for your perilous mission.
00:41A grand destiny awaits.
00:50Planet Mira is full of dangerous lifeforms, so in this survival guide,
00:54we will explore the mechanics of combat to prepare you for the worst.
00:58Let's begin with the information you see during combat, also known as the battle screen.
01:03The enemy's detection type, level, name, and HP are displayed on the top of the screen.
01:09To the left, you can view your party's HP, tension points, levels, buffs, and debuffs.
01:15The bottom of the screen displays the arts palette, morale level, position related to the enemy,
01:21and current equipped weapon.
01:23Considering Earth's impending destruction, I'm sure you're anxious to put one to use.
01:28Here's how.
01:33Basic attacks are automatic blows dealt by either your party member's two equipped weapons.
01:39These auto attacks are the weakest form of offense in the game.
01:42However, they are a great way to deal damage between aggressive art attacks
01:46while also building tension points, which are used to activate powerful abilities.
01:50Each of your party members will have two types of auto attacks,
01:55one for their melee weapon, and another for their ranged weapon.
01:58Press the X button at any time to switch them out as you adapt your strategy
02:02based on the distance between you and your enemies.
02:10In addition to the basics, you'll also be able to deal out special attacks known as arts.
02:15Art attacks are the ultimate way to deal damage to your enemies.
02:19There are dozens upon dozens of arts to learn,
02:21depending on which class your party members belong to.
02:24For starters, let's break down arts based on their ability types.
02:28Melee arts deliver close-range blows.
02:31Ranged arts can be dealt from a distance.
02:36Debuff arts weaken enemies.
02:41And support arts can enhance abilities and heal allies.
02:46And aura arts can provide special abilities over time.
02:50Please keep in mind that the most powerful arts require tension points to activate,
02:55and some classes will specialize in particular ability types.
02:58So make sure to pick the class that suits you best.
03:03When performing an art attack, select the desired art on the arts palette,
03:07which is located on the bottom of the screen.
03:10After performing the art, the attack will need to cool down for a limited time.
03:16As you level up your class and completing quests,
03:19you will unlock additional arts that can be swapped into and out of the art palette.
03:23There are a lot of arts that complement each other well,
03:26so make sure to experiment with multiple configurations.
03:29Now, an advanced technique.
03:32After an art's cool down period is complete,
03:34a green light will circle its icon.
03:36Using the art after the green light has completed its circle will add a bonus,
03:40such as increased damage, to any arts you use.
03:43This is called secondary cool down.
03:46You can reduce the time it takes to enter a secondary cool down
03:49by using the corresponding weapon.
03:55On your journey across planet Mira,
03:58you'll also acquire some unique skills.
04:00Skills provide passive effects that strengthen abilities such as arts,
04:04auto attacks, defense, and more.
04:06You and your party members will earn new skills when leveling up class ranks
04:10that can be freely mixed and matched with one another.
04:12So be sure to experiment with different types.
04:20Soul Voice is a combat mechanic that you won't normally encounter in role-playing scenarios.
04:25With the Soul Voice,
04:27you and your party members can call out to each other during battle,
04:30asking for a particular art to be performed.
04:33If executed correctly,
04:34your characters will receive enhanced abilities
04:37and will recover a small amount of HP.
04:39For example,
04:40if Elma calls out for coverage,
04:42a yellow box depicting a ranged art will appear above her head.
04:46Then,
04:46if a party member answers her call with a ranged art,
04:49both members' abilities will briefly receive a boost and a small amount of HP.
04:53In certain situations,
04:55a button prompt will appear.
04:56Press the B button
04:58when the orange circle overlaps the white circle to nail the timing.
05:01This is called Soul Challenge.
05:03Succeeding in Soul Challenges increases your morale level,
05:06which in turn increases the frequency of Soul Voices and other bonuses.
05:10For a description of each Soul Voice trigger conditions and bonuses,
05:14check out the Soul Voices screen
05:16and see if you can find the Soul Voice that best fits your play style.
05:24After reaching rank 10 in the starting class, Drifter,
05:28you'll gain access to three class chains.
05:30Each chain contains unique classes that specialize in different aspects of battle.
05:34The Striker chain is a beginner-friendly chain
05:37that uses a good balance of offensive and defensive arts to stay within melee range.
05:43The Commando chain focuses on applying damaging buffs to enemies and using ranged arts.
05:50The Enforcer chain can provide support from a distance
05:53and offers many ranged arts and bonuses.
05:55To move through a class chain,
05:57you must achieve rank 10 to unlock the next class.
06:00For example, when you reach rank 10 as a Striker,
06:03you can then access a Samurai Gunner or Shield Trooper.
06:07That's right.
06:08Our leading scientists predict that Samurais will wield guns in the near future.
06:12At least, there's something to look forward to.
06:20Now, what every Blade member is itching to learn.
06:24Advanced Tactics
06:25First, let's discuss Topple.
06:28Enemies inflicted with Topple will become incapable of dodging for a brief time,
06:32leaving them susceptible to extra damage.
06:34In fact, they usually can't even attack.
06:37When trying to execute advanced tactics,
06:39keep in mind that many arts have secondary abilities like Topple
06:43that activate when used or under certain conditions.
06:46For example, Assault Hammer deals physical damage and impairs the enemy with Topple,
06:51but you can take the damage even further by comboing into another art for maximum damage.
06:56A good follow-up is a Flame Grenade,
06:58which will deal additional damage to an enemy if they are toppled.
07:01Performing both arts back-to-back is known as an art combo.
07:04Combos are key to taking down powerful enemies in seconds,
07:08so be sure to read each art's description to maximize its usage.
07:12Another way to beef up your arts and skills is to gain battle points by leveling up and completing quests.
07:18Invest BP in your favorite skills and arts to strengthen their damage and abilities.
07:22The difference between a level 1 and a level 2 ability can be huge,
07:26so make sure to level up as often as you can.
07:29As you can see, strengthening the combo gunner skill will increase Topple to Flame Grenade combo damage by more than
07:36double.
07:37Some arts you learn will also increase damage depending on your position,
07:41so it's important to always use your surroundings to your advantage.
07:44You can attack enemies from behind, above, or below to improve your odds of landing critical hits.
07:50You can even hit their blind spots, assuming they have any.
07:59As you progress in your campaign, you will gain access to overdrives.
08:03Once you accrue 3,000 tension points, a spinning gear icon in the middle of the art palette will appear.
08:09Select the spinning gears to perform an overdrive.
08:12Overdrive greatly enhances your combat abilities for a limited time.
08:15While an overdrive is active, a counter will appear that alters based on the last art used.
08:20Each successful hit from an art during overdrive will advance the counter,
08:25and the color of the overdrive counter changes depending on which art is used,
08:28with different orders of colors granting various effects.
08:37Future Blade members beware!
08:39There are incredibly powerful enemies on planet Mira known as Tyrants.
08:43These enemies are much stronger than your typical foe,
08:46even when you outrank them in experience level.
08:48That said, if you do manage to defeat one, you'll be rewarded with precious loot.
08:53To help you gauge the threat level, some Tyrants will have a gold, silver, or copper crown,
08:59depending on how many players they have killed, so be on the lookout.
