00:01Now we just drove for the last, I don't know, what, day?
00:05Day and a bit, mate.
00:06Day and a bit.
00:07Took us a hundred k's to get out of the last track, and that was four hours of driving,
00:12solid, and that was coming out with the track clear.
00:16Well, so we thought.
00:17So we thought.
00:18Anyway, now we're going to a place called Dipiri.
00:21Okay?
00:22Now...
00:23Is that how you pronounce it?
00:25Dipiri.
00:25Dipiri.
00:27Dipiri?
00:28How are you in it?
00:28I go Dipiri.
00:29Dipiri.
00:30Dipiri.
00:31Daz's joint.
00:32We're going to Daz's joint.
00:33So a good mate of ours, Darren.
00:34Now we haven't been to this place for ages.
00:37Now he reckons, mate, it's school holidays.
00:39Why don't you come up?
00:40No one's here.
00:42He's just got the family there.
00:43He reckons the fish are going off tap, and the billabong out the back is just full of
00:49local wildlife.
00:51And, mate, this place is an absolute awesome place.
00:53We've been there before, but we've got to get there first.
00:56So 100km's in that direction.
00:58We're going to go hook up with Darren, but we do have a bit of a nasty track ahead of
01:02us.
01:03This track is not like the one we've just done.
01:05No.
01:05Not at all.
01:06It does say dirt road on the map, but it is not just a dirt road.
01:11There's going to be some messed up spots.
01:13Unkept dirt road.
01:14Unkept.
01:15So let's get ourselves mobile and go and see Dazza, our best mate at Dipper.
01:32Go, Maxie, go!
01:35Go!
01:49That road doesn't look too bad so far.
01:52Yeah, this bit's always the good bit.
01:56Yes, and later on it gets worse.
01:59They might have graded it if we're lucky.
02:01I'm not really sure.
02:02It's been years and years since we've been here.
02:05Alright, so Mitch, just to give you a heads up, so basically where we're going we can't
02:11drive to.
02:11We can only drive to a little community and that's where we've got to park our gear up.
02:18Yeah, righto.
02:18Sounds interesting.
02:20And then to get to the lodge we've got to go by boat.
02:25I told him he's got to sit back and watch us catch Big Barra.
02:30That's it.
02:30I mean you can watch us catch Big Barra.
02:34I haven't caught many barra in my time so I think it might be my time to catch a decent
02:39barra.
02:41If you catch a metre barra before I do, you'll sack.
02:46We're going to meet a mate of ours, Darren, now he owns a lodge like a barramundi fishing
02:53lodge.
02:54And it's quite renowned for the fact that it fishes a particular river, well a particular
03:01area, but one particular river that is unique, unique to this part of Arnhem Land.
03:08It's fed by the Arafura swamp and it feeds this particular river.
03:14Now the fact that it feeds this river means that the barra population here is next level.
03:21Give my car a bit of a tap.
03:23So we're going to hang out with Darren for the next few days.
03:26Now the only way to get there is we've got to drive this 100km.
03:29I'll tell you what, I can't wait, I haven't been there in years and it's going to be great
03:34to hook up with Darren.
03:36Yeah, check it out mate.
03:38We're sitting up on top of what's called like a big plateau.
03:41We've got a massive big flat plane down to the left and right of us.
03:48These tracks will definitely sort your vehicles out if you are keeping up with the maintenance,
03:54checking things, just simple things like this, like corrugation here, if you can't, jeez, if
04:07you can't keep up with the maintenance and just checking your wheel nuts, checking bash
04:12plates, all that sort of stuff, front heights.
04:17Everything comes loose with these corrugations.
04:20Really sorts a car out.
04:24See why the locals call this the Goat Track, boys.
04:29Goat Track, that's the local name.
04:32Yeah, the Goat Track.
04:36Still got a little bit of moisture on it.
04:39Every track I've been down that's been named the Goat Track hasn't been a fun track.
04:44That's why we're going four-wheel driving, mate.
04:47You know what's the point of owning a four-wheel drive if we're not going four-wheel driving.
04:49That's a valid point.
04:52Well, this looks a bit boggy.
04:54Very funny, that bit.
04:59We came across some fellow travellers in a bit of trouble on the track.
05:04What's going on?
05:05The boat trailer hitch came off, and as old mate hit the anchors, it wedged up hard underneath
05:15the car.
05:20We need to get some load down on the hitch as it is jammed up tight.
05:24All right.
05:24A bit more.
05:26All right.
05:32Everyone gets into it.
05:34Don't scratch the paint.
05:37All right, now we've got the weight of it.
05:42See?
05:43Out of pops.
05:46I've never met a mob so happy to be broken down.
05:53We on?
05:55Obviously the hitch didn't stay on, eh?
05:57No.
05:59Hitch on?
06:00Hitch on?
06:03No worries.
06:04Hello.
06:06Only just?
06:08But it's enough for now.
06:10Now pull down.
06:20It's good to see you guys around.
06:22I heard yous were coming.
06:23Yeah?
06:23Yeah.
06:24You've been a part of it.
06:26There you go.
06:27We helped.
06:27There you go.
06:29No worries, guys.
06:31We get it all back together and get them going.
06:33As a bonus, we get taught a bit of language by the kids.
06:37Yow, yow, yow.
06:39Yow, yow, yow.
06:40Yow, yow, yow.
06:40Yow, yow, yow.
06:42Yow, yow, yow.
06:42Nice to meet you.
06:47See you after this commercial break.
06:53Mate, we can't be too far away from the ocean.
06:57Nah, we've just got to bust out onto this floodplain, mate, and head down to the barge
07:00landing.
07:01We've got to chuck some stuff on the barge and then they're going to, yeah, take some gear
07:06across for us and then we've got to go across in the boat.
07:09Welcome to the floodplain, boys, where the buffalo roam free.
07:15How cool is that?
07:18In the wet season, this is all underwater.
07:21A couple of little magpie geese.
07:24So it's high tide at 11.30 and it's already ten past one.
07:30Just out here to our left, there's just all buffalo.
07:34Like there's a big mob.
07:36Hey, Mitch, you on channel?
07:38Yeah, mate.
07:38Got ya.
07:40Have a look out to your left there, mate.
07:42Big mob of buffalo.
07:45Yeah, there is too.
07:48Just roaming the floodplains, mate.
07:51This would be heaven for them.
07:56Looks like the barge hasn't arrived yet, but the tide is in, boys.
08:00That's a good start.
08:02Untarp that boat and get that thing in the drink, eh?
08:06Yeah, we'd better get ourselves organised before we lose water.
08:11So we're going to try and get that on there.
08:14Not with that other vehicle's not going on there.
08:17So we're going to go down onto there.
08:19Hopefully we can fit her on, but they're loading some more gear on.
08:22So we're sort of tagging along, chucking our side-by-side onto that barge.
08:27Barge is looking a bit full at the moment.
08:29Full of people and gear and...
08:32Looking full, isn't it?
08:33Yeah, looking real full.
08:34All right, mate.
08:35You just missed that four-wheel drive there and you're all good.
08:38We've still got plenty of water, I think, I hope.
08:41Copy that.
08:42Oh, we're at the end of the ramp, though, with the water.
08:45All right, I'll give her a bit of a stab launch to try and get it off the trailer.
08:48She'll be full of dust.
08:50Good to go, mate.
08:51All right.
08:57I'll go again, eh?
08:59Yep.
09:08Textbook, mate.
09:09Textbook.
09:10Well, that's the start.
09:11Now we've got to get some gear back to the compound and then get in this boat.
09:16I don't know what it's going to be like by the time we get back to the boat ramp.
09:18We might be wading through mud to get to it.
09:21All righty, mate.
09:22Let's get the hell out of here.
09:23No.
09:24It's low tide.
09:25It's low tide.
09:26It's super low.
09:27We're racing the light as well as the tide to get out of the mouth.
09:33So we are flat out and it's cold.
09:37Yeah.
09:38We're just getting across a little sandbank.
09:41Trying to negotiate these sandbanks around here.
09:44There's something over there.
09:45We've got to stay out wide.
09:47It's windy.
09:47We're going to get flogged.
09:49And we do get really flogged, but we have to get in before dark.
09:55Well, that was fun.
09:59My eyes are watering.
10:00Look.
10:01Yeah, that was not fun.
10:05It's definitely got smacked out there.
10:07You can see here, it's actually quite calm here at the moment because it's flowing.
10:12I'm not sure, but it's like 40 knots out there.
10:17We've got smoke, but we're here.
10:19We're here.
10:19Right in front of this is Darren's place.
10:24The barge literally looks like the barge has dropped something off.
10:27We're not sure what he's dropped off.
10:29Hopefully a buggy.
10:32Here comes Darren.
10:36In?
10:37Yeah, come in now.
10:40Darren's got us a boat trailer.
10:42Some sort of boat trailer.
10:46That's about it.
10:47Wind her up.
10:48We get the boat out just before sunset.
10:51Is it on?
10:53You really don't want to be standing in the water after dark.
10:56Look at that.
10:56How good's that?
10:57That's a cracker.
10:59Here he comes.
10:59He's got beers in here.
11:00Coldies, coldies, coldies.
11:02Hey, mate.
11:02The sun's going down.
11:04The beers are coming out.
11:05Mitch.
11:06Thanks, mate.
11:07Thank you, my friend.
11:08How good's that, mate?
11:10Cheers.
11:11Thanks for having us back, mate.
11:13Cheers.
11:14How good's this?
11:15All time.
11:16My pleasure.
11:16Awesome.
11:17Well, we were buzzing past and that's why I gave you a call and said, let's come up and
11:23say good day.
11:24Show you some real barra.
11:25Yeah.
11:26Oh, yeah.
11:27That last one.
11:29Mitch, we won't talk about the barra.
11:31We nearly caught a barra.
11:32We nearly caught a barra.
11:33We scared one.
11:35Actually, I've caught the only barra this trip.
11:37True.
11:37It was about that long.
11:42It was a barra, son.
11:43It was a barra.
11:44That's right.
11:44To be fair, we actually haven't hunted for barra yet.
11:47Mate, what a cracking sunset.
11:49That's dropped down.
11:50When we were coming over, we got absolutely flogged.
11:53But then as soon as we got, yeah, flogged, I mean like whitecaps like high, this high,
11:58smashing us.
11:59Absolutely smashing us.
12:00And then as we got closer and closer and closer, it calmed down, calmed down as the offshore
12:04hit us.
12:05So we had to go wide.
12:07We're pretty experienced too.
12:08We run straight into a mud bank.
12:09Yeah.
12:10We didn't run into it.
12:11We were just driving over it.
12:14Slowly.
12:15We would have been here half an hour earlier.
12:17We probably would have beaten the barge if we didn't run aground.
12:21Cheers to no rest.
12:24It's good to be here, Daz.
12:26It's good to be here.
12:38The chickens, mate.
12:40Here they come.
12:41Here come my chickens.
12:42You've let the chickens out.
12:44I don't think you've met them.
12:44I actually went down.
12:45I actually went down to the chicken coop and got our eggs for our breakfast this morning.
12:50Yeah, they want them back.
12:52Yeah, they want them back.
12:53I'm sitting over here in the sun.
12:55What a spot for Brackey, eh?
12:56Oh, mate.
12:57Breakfast.
12:58Yeah, that's the side.
12:59We got up early this morning.
13:01And basically, like I said, Daz is eased asleep.
13:05He's asleep on holidays.
13:07So we ducked into the kitchen there.
13:09Full commercial kitchen, by the way.
13:11And cooked up a bit of a feed.
13:13So we're going to have a bit of a feed here and work out what the hell we're going to
13:16do.
13:17And then go and rattle the tool shed and get Daz there out of bed.
13:21And the tide's starting to come in now.
13:24Have a look at that ocean, boys.
13:25Looks pretty good for us.
13:26How good's that?
13:27How good is it?
13:29Mate, we're going to go and suss it out and see what this place has to offer.
13:35All right.
13:35Bit of Brackey, eh?
13:36It has lots to offer, mate.
13:39We got Daz out of bed to launch the boat.
13:49Step aboard.
13:51Just flick that thing down flat.
13:53Oh, look.
13:54We got red frogs.
13:55Daz has found the sweet stash in an instant.
14:00They're not open.
14:01Oh, yeah.
14:05I knew someone would see that.
14:06Oh, look.
14:06Red one.
14:07Reddish.
14:09Would you like one?
14:11That was our bait, Darren.
14:14Yeah.
14:15There's a bit.
14:17That was our soft plastics.
14:20Oh, that one.
14:23We have a short run down to the river mouth and Daz's family are in the other boat.
14:30All right.
14:31So this morning we're going to head out.
14:32We've got the old fellas on this boat.
14:34All right.
14:35Daz is up the front.
14:36You there, Daz?
14:36I'm here.
14:37Yeah.
14:37Good to go.
14:38All right.
14:39And that's the young fellas on that boat over there.
14:41That's the young crew.
14:42How you going, crew?
14:44That's the young crew.
14:45We're the old crew.
14:46And it's old versus new.
14:48It's the biggest fish.
14:51Oh, no.
14:51It's any fish on a boat.
14:54Doesn't sound like very good rules, mate.
14:57Not very defined.
14:59If you catch a fish, you'll win.
15:02Oh, no.
15:02I think we might get done.
15:03Give us some confidence, mate.
15:05Now, by the way, if you don't know, they're all Darren's kids.
15:08Two of them.
15:09Two of them.
15:10They've been learning how to train since they were this big.
15:16How big do you reckon?
15:18We'll now get a master class on using our Lorentz.
15:21This is stuff we haven't seen before.
15:24How clever is that?
15:26So I've only got the small screen.
15:29Darren's grabbed his big 16-inch off one of his boats,
15:32the big 16-inch screen.
15:34Now, it's called Active Target 2.
15:38And see these little dots in coming in through here?
15:41Those lines, that's barra.
15:43And what we're looking for, as Darren was saying,
15:47is we're looking for the school.
15:49So you'll see them, like, stacked almost.
15:52Yeah, just stacked.
15:54Hundreds of them.
15:55Hundreds of them.
15:56We haven't seen that on a screen.
16:00They've got a good barra over there, eh?
16:02It's a monster.
16:03Now, Daz is jumping between boats.
16:04Go up to where they call that.
16:05Because it is his family holiday.
16:06And, of course, we are freeloading.
16:08Good job!
16:10Oh, no way!
16:11Look at that!
16:12Look at that!
16:13Look at that!
16:16Oh, yeah, you're going to hate that!
16:18Oh, young fella's first cast.
16:21Boom!
16:22What a fish!
16:23Maybe that's a...
16:24Oh, fish on!
16:25Oh, yeah!
16:26I've got one!
16:27I've got one!
16:29I'm on!
16:30Simon is on!
16:32Woo!
16:33It's a barra!
16:35Barra on!
16:35It's a barra on!
16:38Yeah, I'm pumped am I!
16:39I'll probably lose it.
16:40Is it a good size?
16:41Yeah, good size!
16:42Don't be saying that!
16:43Don't lose it!
16:44Woo!
16:45We're in anchor mode, so anywhere up the front I'll need to disconnect.
16:48Just in case.
16:49Just letting you know.
16:49Copy that!
16:52Fish on!
16:54Look at all the lures going to where I just took this one.
16:56Twow!
16:57Twow!
16:58That's where the fish are.
17:00There he is!
17:01Good size!
17:01Get him in the boat!
17:02Have we got grippers here anywhere?
17:03I'm coming, I'm coming.
17:05Hold that, hold that, hold that.
17:06Come and give me some assistance, mate!
17:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
17:09Coming.
17:09No, no, we're good.
17:10He's only just hooked.
17:11Oh, Jase, he's barely hooked!
17:13Yeah, yeah, yeah.
17:14Calm down, mate.
17:15Calm, calm!
17:16He's lipped!
17:16He's lipped!
17:17Calm!
17:18Why can't he?
17:19He's hardly even hooked!
17:20Calm, Simon.
17:21Oh, Simon.
17:22Don't you lose him!
17:23I'm not calm!
17:25And he's so!
17:28Don't go losing that fish!
17:31He's just, like, barely hooked!
17:33He's gonna get off!
17:36He's gonna get off!
17:37He's barely hooked!
17:40You got him!
17:41I got him!
17:41Woo!
17:42Yay!
17:43We got fish!
17:45Fish in the boat!
17:47Good job, mate!
17:49Fish in the boat!
17:51Yeah, he's 80 all day long.
17:53Good job, good job.
17:54Well, that's the first fish in the boat, so...
17:56Right here in the river.
17:58Mate, that is awesome.
17:59That's a good catch.
18:00They caught one, we caught one.
18:01That's gold.
18:03Look at that, eh?
18:04How happy are you mine?
18:06That's mine.
18:06Not only did I catch an awesome barra, it's the first barra.
18:11Photo op!
18:12Yeah, photo opportunity right there.
18:14How good's that?
18:16There you go, buddy.
18:18So he's 88.
18:1988?
18:19Well done.
18:20What did that one go?
18:2180.
18:25Listen to it.
18:26Where are you?
18:26We're in the lead.
18:27We're in the lead.
18:29Alright.
18:31No shortage of crocs in this river, Jase.
18:34No, there isn't.
18:35Looks like that would have been a female that just dropped in and maybe that's a big male.
18:40There you go, look at that.
18:42Big croc.
18:46Kid's having a ball.
18:50Darren's gonna jump on our boat.
18:53There's only one downside.
18:54He wants to get on the winning boat, mate.
18:56There's one downside to that, though.
18:57What?
18:58I'm using his rod.
18:59Oh.
19:01Nice work.
19:03We got one, mate.
19:05We got a new skipper now.
19:06We gotta tow the line.
19:08Simon's gotta tow the line.
19:10Yeah, I do so.
19:11Literally.
19:12Sit down.
19:12Shut up.
19:13You can see there's like heaves of big fish coming through in the column, the water column.
19:18And you can see your lure.
19:20Literally, we're tweaking it in front of their nose.
19:23And some turn, they look at it, and they're just not eating at the moment.
19:28They're just not taking it.
19:29We had one sort of shoot across and I think had a crack at Daz's lure, but that's about it.
19:37It's frustrating.
19:38You're looking at the fish.
19:39You can see them here.
19:41Here it comes.
19:42There's the fish.
19:43There's the lure.
19:43There's the fish.
19:45Fish.
19:46Lure.
19:47Lure in front of a fish.
19:49Doesn't want it.
19:51Come on.
19:52Oh, he's on.
19:52He's on.
19:53He got him.
19:54Darren's on.
19:55There he is.
19:55Oh, he's a good fish, too.
19:57Look at him.
19:57Oh, good fish.
19:58Good fish.
19:59Oh, he's solid.
20:00Good fish, Darren.
20:02Let me find the grippers.
20:03There's the grippers.
20:03Yeah, you'll need some grippers all right.
20:04Look at the size of that fish.
20:07Just splashed us.
20:08That's a good fish, mate.
20:10He's still green as, too.
20:12And.
20:15Yep.
20:16Oh, he's got him.
20:18That's solid fish, mate.
20:19Oh, look at the fish.
20:21Oh, look at the fish.
20:21Mate, I think that might even get a meter.
20:23That's a cracking fish.
20:25Oh, look at the size of it.
20:27I wish you a lure, mate, by that much and got Dazzes.
20:30I know.
20:31Well done.
20:32Good one, brother.
20:33I got 101 carp.
20:34Hey, look at the fish that I just helped catch.
20:37Look at the size of that sucker.
20:38That's got to be nearly a meter, doesn't it?
20:40Oh.
20:42What is he?
20:43Oh, he's about...
20:43Oh, no.
20:43He's not a meter.
20:44No, he's about 90...
20:4795, mate.
20:48Come on, buddy.
20:49We'll just spear this one in, Daz, eh?
20:52All right.
20:53Here we go.
20:53Mouth open, spear in.
20:55Go, big fella.
20:59You know the only bad thing about that?
21:01It was on Dazzes, not yours.
21:02Dazzes caught it.
21:05After a good day's fishing, it's time for a cook-up.
21:10I know, Mitch.
21:11We've heard all about you.
21:12You've got some special dip.
21:13Your specialty.
21:14Yeah, mate.
21:15Something I grew up eating, so I thought I'd show you boys.
21:20Jase has had it before.
21:21I've seen it, but I've forgotten it.
21:23I want to eat it again.
21:24All right, mate.
21:24Start.
21:25Go.
21:25Knock it up.
21:26We're all hungry.
21:27We've had a big day out in the boat and we didn't catch much.
21:29What would you like us to do?
21:30Nice and healthy.
21:31Well, if you want, you can do these avos.
21:34Nah, cut them into little squares.
21:35Little squares.
21:36Whack her into that.
21:38You open my nuts.
21:39Just some macadamia nuts.
21:41Do they get smashed up or do they stay in one piece?
21:43They get smashed up.
21:44We've got some baby tomatoes here,
21:48because that's all they had at the...
21:50At the shop.
21:51At the shop at the time.
21:52So we're literally going to put everything in that dish there.
21:55In the dish.
21:56And mix it all up.
21:57Diced avos.
21:59Chuck all those tomatoes in.
22:00May as well chuck them in whole.
22:03That's easy.
22:03Look at that.
22:04That's coming together good.
22:05Look at that.
22:06Look at those colors in there.
22:08Oh, we're getting fancy.
22:09Oh, we're getting fancy.
22:11What is that you're putting in there, mate?
22:13This is sweet chili Philly cheese.
22:15Oh, okay.
22:16So it's got the sweet chili already in it.
22:18This is the dippery dip, mate.
22:21The dippery dip.
22:22Is this what you make when you go to a barbecue or something?
22:25It certainly is, mate.
22:26Oh, he's got the final touch.
22:29Here we go.
22:30A bit of garnish.
22:30There you go.
22:32That's chef looking.
22:33Yep.
22:34I'm going in.
22:34Rip in.
22:36Here we go.
22:36Get a bit of this.
22:37Yeah, I'm going in.
22:38Yeah, you've got to get it all on there.
22:39And then get that.
22:42Tomato and the whole nine yards, mate.
22:44You need to get that macadamia nuts.
22:45Oh, my cheese stuff fell off.
22:47Hell yeah.
22:48That's the chunkiest dip I've ever eaten.
22:51Pretty bloody good.
22:53What do you reckon?
22:53Nice work, mate.
22:55It's a go.
22:56Nice work.
22:58Dippery dip and a beer, a great way to finish the day.
23:07I don't know whether there's a good thing or a bad thing this screen.
23:11You'll love it.
23:12Now it's like I'm getting more frustrated at the fact there is just fish after fish peeling
23:20through.
23:21Big fish.
23:24So you're literally sitting there in front of their nose going, hey, mate.
23:27Hey, mate.
23:27You want some?
23:28You want some of this?
23:29Oh.
23:30Oh.
23:31Nah.
23:32And then they turn and trim away.
23:36Oh.
23:37Yeah, you got him.
23:37You got him.
23:37You got him.
23:38Fish on.
23:38Oh, yeah.
23:39Woo.
23:41Yes.
23:42Steady, steady.
23:43Steady, steady.
23:44Yeah, we got it.
23:44He's green.
23:46We're fish on.
23:47He's green.
23:48We are fish on.
23:50About time you go away.
23:51That's a start.
23:52That's a hookup.
23:53Ty, that's the first step.
23:54Getting the hookup.
23:56Next step.
23:57Is don't catch the bait.
23:58Is catching the fish.
23:59Yeah.
24:02And he's gone under the bait.
24:03He's really giving you.
24:04Just keep it down.
24:05Joe, just keep it down.
24:06He's giving you curry.
24:08I'm keeping him down.
24:09Did he just lift on the other side?
24:10Yeah.
24:11Are you kidding me?
24:13No, this fish is going to work me.
24:16Like that one there.
24:17That was definite.
24:18I saw the whole thing happen on the sounder.
24:23Literally.
24:24And then I didn't even realize I'd had him because I had a bit of slack in my line.
24:27Had to wind it up and then boom, he's on.
24:31Why can't I get any lift on this guy?
24:34He's giving you grief.
24:34I got the motor up.
24:36Oh my gosh.
24:37Luckily, because he was right at the outboard then.
24:40Oh my gosh.
24:40Where is he, Joe?
24:41He is.
24:42He's giving me grief.
24:44He was right at the prop then.
24:46There's no jumping or nothing going on.
24:48Here it comes.
24:49Alright, here we go.
24:51Try to get him forward a bit and then I can come up to you.
24:53Here we go.
24:54We're getting some line back now.
24:58We're getting him up.
24:58There he is.
24:59There he is.
25:00I think he's only an 85.
25:02He's only a pup, mate.
25:03Yeah.
25:05He ain't no Darren fish.
25:06No, he ain't no Dazza fish.
25:09Yeah, Darren's the expert.
25:10You get him, mate.
25:10This is the part where Simon goes, what are you doing?
25:13Get the fish in the boat.
25:16What are you doing?
25:17Just get him in the boat.
25:18We've all caught fish now, mate.
25:20I've shirked all responsibility.
25:22Dazza's going now.
25:24Dazza's got him.
25:25Expert.
25:26Dazza's got him.
25:27Expert.
25:27I'll get out of the way.
25:28You got him Darren?
25:29You got that fish?
25:30I got him, mate.
25:31Dazza's got him.
25:33Get him in.
25:34What?
25:35Dazza's got him.
25:36Don't you lose him.
25:37He gets the lures out of the fish when they're still in the drink.
25:41Yeah.
25:42A professional, eh, mate?
25:45That's how the professionals do it.
25:46Oh, look at this fish, mate.
25:48He's pretty solid.
25:49Hey, that's a good fish.
25:52I reckon about 85.
25:54I'm hoping 89.
25:58What was yours again?
25:5988, no.
26:0088.
26:01So I'm hoping 89.
26:02You haven't beat me.
26:02Dazza's beat both of us, but I don't think you beat mine.
26:07There we go.
26:08What do we got?
26:08What do we got?
26:10Here's the tail.
26:11He's 90.
26:14He's 90.
26:15You say he's bigger than mine.
26:17It's a 90.
26:18It's a 90.
26:20He's bigger than yours.
26:21That is so.
26:22You bastard.
26:24I hate you.
26:26How cool is that?
26:27That's with the active target too, mate.
26:30That thing.
26:31Dazza.
26:32Thanks, Dazza.
26:33No worries, mate.
26:34Mate, you've taught us how to use it.
26:36Well, you taught me how to use it.
26:37Simon can't see the screen still.
26:39No, no.
26:39We're good.
26:40Well, get out.
26:41We'll train him up.
26:43Yeah, yeah.
26:43I've got the thing down pat.
26:46I know I need a bigger screen, but anyway, look at that awesome barramundi here in Dazza's
26:51favorite river.
26:51His backyard.
26:52Right beside the lodge in his backyard.
26:54How cool is that?
26:55I can't believe the amount of fish coming down this river, and the amount of fish, or
27:00what the work it takes to catch one good fish.
27:03All right, here we go.
27:05We're going in, and we're going in hot.
27:07See you, buddy.
27:08Thank you very much.
27:09Wow.
27:10We're going in?
27:11Yeah.
27:14I've just, take two, just come back a fraction.
27:17Reverse that.
27:18Before I let him go, I just asked Simon.
27:20He licked his lips, and I went.
27:24You know what that means, don't you?
27:26Show him, Simon.
27:27Show him what you did.
27:28We'll keep him.
27:30Oh, sorry, buddy, but thank you.
27:35Thank you to all my fans.
27:37I'd like to thank my mother.
27:39I'd like to thank my brother Darren from another mother for all his hard work.
27:46I'd like to thank Mitch for fixing the boat and getting it here.
27:50But most of all, I'd like to thank my family.
27:53My family for, what are you doing to my fish?
27:57It's gone.
27:58He's going to start frying it up at the back.
28:01Anyway, see you guys.
28:05On our way back to the lodge, we check out one of the big boys of the area.
28:10He is the boss croc of this section of river.
28:13You would not want to end up in the water here.
28:25So basically this morning, what we're going to do is we're going to head out again this
28:28morning, and the weather's come good for us.
28:32It's nice this morning.
28:33Wind's not going nuts, which is good.
28:36And so yesterday, what we found was, when we got onto those fish, is we've got to get
28:42in there right on the change of the tide, and not necessarily the change as the bottom,
28:47you know, the low tide changes.
28:49It's more when the tide actually starts to push at that location.
28:52So pushing in.
28:54And that's when they were on the chew.
28:55So a little bit sort of probably half an hour too late yesterday morning.
29:00So if we can get there a little bit earlier, then we can get up the top, get a better
29:04chance
29:04at chasing some big fish.
29:06Let's have a bit of a crack at that and see how we go.
29:16We aren't the only ones out here fishing today.
29:19There they are.
29:20They're coming through now.
29:22Straighten up at that.
29:25Mitch is on.
29:25Yep.
29:26You're on.
29:26Fish on.
29:27See, I told you.
29:28I made that happen.
29:29Oh, he's on.
29:30He's on.
29:31Mitch is on.
29:33Just calm down.
29:35Keep waiting on him, but don't panic.
29:36Pump line.
29:37Just keep your rod bent the whole time.
29:38No slack line.
29:39Don't point your rod at the fish.
29:41You keep pointing it a little bit too much to the fish.
29:43Turn that boat around again.
29:44Hang on.
29:44He's coming down.
29:45Here he goes.
29:47Oh.
29:47Look at the size of that fish.
29:50It's a beast.
29:51It's bigger.
29:52It's huge, mate.
29:53I better not lose this fish.
29:54Pull up.
29:55Pull up.
29:55Pull up.
29:57Just keep him there.
29:58Keep the line on him.
29:59Don't get him too close until he's ready.
30:01Copy that.
30:02Until Jase is ready.
30:04Don't try and lift him out of the water with your rod on him.
30:06Yeah, don't be doing any lifting yet.
30:08Yeah, no.
30:09I'm on that.
30:10Wearing him out.
30:10We're clear now.
30:12That's a good fish, Mitch.
30:13That is a monster.
30:14I just need a camera on the boat here.
30:16Oh, my God.
30:16That is a monster.
30:18Your first one's a cracker.
30:19We're going to drift on him, so we need to be like this.
30:21Don't want to go too much.
30:23That's it.
30:23That's good.
30:24That's good.
30:25All right.
30:26Move up to the front a little bit.
30:27Oh, look at you.
30:28He's yours.
30:29Oh.
30:30Oh.
30:31That's where they come out when they do that.
30:34Just hold.
30:34Over that way.
30:35Let him go under the boat.
30:36Let him go under.
30:37So when he goes like that, you go with him.
30:39Oh, I'm going to move.
30:40Yep.
30:40Oh, that was messy.
30:42That was messy.
30:45Come on, mate.
30:47Oh, no.
30:49Oh.
30:50Oh, you spat it.
30:52Oh.
30:55Oh.
30:55Oh.
30:56Oh.
30:57Oh.
30:59That's like.
30:59He was right there.
31:01That was a monster.
31:03That could have even been a meter fish, you know.
31:07Oh, Mitch.
31:09Mitch.
31:09Mitch.
31:09How do you feel?
31:10If I were you, I would have already broken my rod.
31:13Like literally over the knee, snap, in the drink with it.
31:17He was right there.
31:18Yeah.
31:19How are you not more upset?
31:20I'd be livid.
31:23I'm more upset than you.
31:25It wasn't even my fish.
31:25Yeah, it wasn't even his fish.
31:27I should get it back.
31:28Oh.
31:30I would have loved to get that in the boat just to see.
31:33Mitch has got a taste of it.
31:35This is where it starts, mate.
31:37That's where it starts, mate.
31:38Then it becomes like an addiction.
31:40Daz is about to lift one out of the drink.
31:42Nice fish.
31:43Yeah.
31:43Fish on board.
31:45I might change my lure, I think.
31:47I'll have a lure change.
31:50Oh.
31:50Yes.
31:51Yes, where I am.
31:51Mitch is on.
31:52Mitch is on.
31:53I just cast there, too.
31:55Cheeky bugger, eh?
31:57He's not as big.
31:59Fish on.
32:00Oh.
32:01Sorry.
32:02Yes.
32:02Two fish on.
32:04Stay on there.
32:05Stay on there.
32:06Where's those grippers gone?
32:08Take your time, Mitch.
32:09Take your time.
32:10It's green.
32:10Don't rush it.
32:11Fish on.
32:11Two fish on.
32:12No need to rush it.
32:14It's a good fish.
32:16There he is.
32:17We've got two fish on.
32:18Mitch is on.
32:19I am on.
32:20What can go wrong with that?
32:21What can go wrong?
32:23You stay on that side and I'm on this side.
32:25I'm trying.
32:25We're good for the minute.
32:26Is there a good one?
32:28I reckon he'd be 70?
32:30I'll listen to you go, Mr. Expert.
32:33Seven.
32:34I haven't even seen it yet.
32:36There it is.
32:37He's coming up.
32:38He's coming up.
32:39He's coming up.
32:40A good barra, mate.
32:41Keep him in the water.
32:42Don't lift his head out.
32:44He's a good size.
32:46Both good fish.
32:49There he is.
32:50He's going to come up in a minute.
32:51He's got a leader.
32:52There he is.
32:53Look at that.
32:55Leader.
32:56Yes.
32:57That's you, Mitch.
32:58Mitch has got a fish in the boat.
33:00Don't let that flap around and get hooked.
33:01Simon, you ready?
33:03There's your pliers.
33:04Yep.
33:04Thank you, mate.
33:07Here we come.
33:09There he is.
33:11Whoa, that hook was just in there.
33:15Like literally.
33:17Simon's got him.
33:19Oh, yes.
33:20Good job, Simon.
33:21Yours is heavier than Mitch's.
33:23Good job.
33:24Good job.
33:24Look at that.
33:26Absolute crack of fish.
33:27Unreal, aren't they?
33:29How do you feel, mate?
33:30Oh, it's good to finally get one of the boat.
33:32Biggest barra.
33:32Double hook up too.
33:33Double hook up.
33:35That's unreal.
33:35How cool is that?
33:36That is very cool.
33:38Very cool.
33:38We'll get a couple of photos of that, mate.
33:40Because that's your biggest barra.
33:41That is my biggest barra so far.
33:42Oh, there you go.
33:43Let's get some photos.
33:4595.
33:46That's a good fish.
33:47That's 95.
33:48That fish is 95.
33:50Oh, yeah.
33:50That other one Mitch had was a meter fish.
33:53Mate, that's awesome.
33:54How big is yours, Mitch?
33:55About to find out.
33:56I reckon you're 79.
33:58Might even go 81.
34:00What did you get?
34:0182.
34:0282.
34:02There you go.
34:0381, I said.
34:04Mate, you're in the 80 club.
34:06Oh, I'm stoked, mate.
34:07Look at that.
34:08What a beautiful fish.
34:10Mate, there's still fish here.
34:11Let's get fish in the boat, eh?
34:12Let's do it.
34:14Yes.
34:15Yes.
34:17Yes.
34:18Good fish.
34:19Look at him go.
34:21This is a good fish.
34:23Here he comes.
34:23He's coming your way, mate.
34:25Coming in hot.
34:26We're not ready yet.
34:27Coming in hot.
34:28I thought he spat that then.
34:30No, no.
34:30He spat a bit of his lip there.
34:34Oh.
34:37Oh, my God.
34:38He nearly lost that at the boat.
34:39No, not even close, mate.
34:41Not even close.
34:43Woo.
34:44Give me the pliers.
34:45We're going to do it the guides way this time.
34:47Oh, we're doing the guide way.
34:48Behind you the pliers are, mate.
34:49The grippers.
34:49Yeah, right there.
34:51Straight in front of your face.
34:52There they are.
34:53He's doing it the guides way.
34:54Look at that.
34:55They keep the fish over the side.
34:56Yeah.
34:57I'd imagine occasionally when the grippers fail, though, that would be not good.
35:00Yeah, but I think they commit with the grippers, so they know that it's committed.
35:03I hold them committed.
35:04Yeah, that's it.
35:05And then you do the big reveal.
35:09Look at that.
35:10That's still a great fish.
35:11That's a healthy looking fish.
35:12He used to look at it.
35:13That's one healthy looking fish.
35:14Grab him in there.
35:16I reckon he's about, he might push 80.
35:19He might be 70.
35:20Yeah, he's 70s.
35:2270s?
35:23He's our little fella.
35:24If you caught that anywhere else though, he'd be pumped.
35:26Oh, we'd be pumped.
35:27Does it get any better than that?
35:28We'd absolutely be.
35:29I'm still pumped, mate.
35:30We're catching barra.
35:31We're catching some awesome fish.
35:33Without a guide in our boat, except Simon's the guide now.
35:36Hey, middle of winter.
35:37Warm as toast.
35:38Catching barramundi.
35:43We're heading right up to the top end of this river system.
35:48We're going to go up to the floodplains, basically where you can see what feeds this river.
35:55The fresh water will be still coming down, and you've got all the floodplains and all
36:02the habitat up there, and it's all that ecosystem that runs this entire river system.
36:09It just spreads out all out across the floodplain.
36:13It's a very cool place to go and visit.
36:15All the mangroves start to disappear on the sides.
36:18You can start to see it now.
36:19And it's just this big open plain.
36:22Buffalo, wild pigs, birds, wildlife, billabongs, you name it.
36:29And this river system here that we're in, it's all fed by that.
36:41Look at that.
36:43Barramundi on the hoof.
36:47Quow.
36:52Go then.
36:54Copy that.
36:57Easy come, easy go.
36:58I don't know what the hell went on there.
37:00If I come down here, you'll steal all the fish.
37:06Already caught them all by the looks.
37:10Yeah, I had a bit of an incident, eh?
37:12Long story.
37:13Daz is feeling sorry for us, so he's back on our boat, and of course, we hook up straight
37:19away.
37:25Little barra.
37:28He's still got a yellow tail.
37:30He looks still got plenty of chrome in him.
37:33But this guy's basically coming off the floodplain in this freshwater here.
37:39There you go, buddy.
37:41Mitch is on.
37:42Fish on.
37:43Fish on, mate.
37:45Fish on.
37:46Mitch's second biggest barra.
37:48If he gets it in the boat.
37:51If I go in the boat.
37:53I think I need to go back to another plastic.
37:56Yours is in the tree.
37:58Oh, my plastic's in the fish.
37:59My hard body's in the tree.
38:04Look at our grippers down here.
38:06Fish on.
38:07Yes.
38:08Got one.
38:11All about the same size, these ones.
38:14There we go.
38:15Little floodplain barra as well.
38:17They're in really good condition if you look at them.
38:21A lot of silver in them.
38:22Yellow tail because they are still saltwater.
38:25They're not black.
38:26When they come out off the floodplain, this entire fish has got a black top on him.
38:33And he's a bit dark underneath.
38:36He's not as silver.
38:39But this guy.
38:41Oh, Simon's on.
38:43No shortage of barra up here in the floodplains.
38:48Is that your first fish today if you get it in the boat?
38:51Well, yeah, probably.
38:52Have you got it in the boat yet?
38:54No, not yet.
38:56Not yet?
38:57Here's the grippers.
38:57Do what Darren wants to see me do.
39:02Guess what?
39:03I didn't get that one in the boat either.
39:05Oh.
39:05I just let it go.
39:06That's all right.
39:07I had it.
39:07Oh, okay.
39:09Fish on.
39:10Woo hoo hoo.
39:11That was straight away.
39:13Fish on.
39:15Simon, you should come up the front.
39:18I'll show you what a barramundi looks like today.
39:23There we go.
39:24There he is.
39:26Little fella.
39:27I'll chuck him back.
39:28He doesn't need to be eaten.
39:31He needs to get a bit bigger.
39:33Well, that's it for Dippery.
39:35We think the tidal is very safe with Dazz's kids.
39:39For now.
39:40It's back to the lodge to plan our next adventure.
39:45Next time, disaster strikes.
39:47First time I've ever put an all-for-adventure vehicle on a tilt tray.
39:51One bolt brings down the whole show.
39:53Oh, you're kidding me.
39:54Chaos and mayhem.
39:55We need some gold to pay the bill.
39:57It's metal detectors to mine shafts.
40:00Look at that.
40:01Oh, it's crumbling.
40:02Yeah, go on.
40:03Pick the walls apart.
40:03I'm off.
40:04Join us for the adventure.
40:08What are you doing here?
40:09Mate, I've got no idea.
40:12What's going on?
40:13I hear you guys are giving away my D-Max.
40:15Mate, you left the thing parked in my shed.
40:17You can't give away, Maximus.
40:19It's better all day trying to get the scratches out of it.
40:21You've done a good job.
40:22I don't know.
40:22It looks like yours.
40:23But it's actually not.
40:24It's a brand new D-Max.
40:25And I'm going to give it away.
40:27Mate's got a brand new canopy on the back, mate.
40:29We've got rooftop tent, awning.
40:31What's swinging off the back?
40:32Oh, check this out.
40:34428 Avenger.
40:3550 horsepower tiller on the back.
40:37Oi.
40:38$5,000 gift card.
40:39And you know what?
40:40While you're here, let's give that away as well.

41:06Alright, so we're packing up to head off today
41:09and heading that direction there.
41:11We've got to get back to the Ramo boat ramp
41:13and load up all the gear.
41:17Side by side's already over there.
41:18Load the boat on and then pack all our stuff up
41:21and start heading out of town.
41:23Now, I don't know about you,
41:25but we came out here when Darren was on holidays
41:27and we had a bit of an adventure.
41:29You know, just mucking around in the background,
41:31stuff like that.
41:32But if you are after something pretty exceptional
41:37like this place and big barramundi,
41:40there's no doubt about it.
41:41It is the premier barra lodge all over Arnhem Land,
41:44if not the top end of Australia.
41:45I can vouch for that because we just nailed
41:48some of the biggest barramundi that we've ever seen.
41:52It's not mine either.
41:54This place is the absolute bomb.
41:56Like, have a go at it.
41:57Yeah.
41:58Where else in Australia are you going to find that?
42:00I don't know, mate, but here.
42:02You're leaving and I'm staying.
42:04He's off.
42:05What about you, mate?
42:06Yeah, I might stay here too.
42:09No one wants to go with me when I leave.
42:12That's how good it is, this place.
42:14Well, mate, you nearly beat me on the big metre fish,
42:17but in the end, I'll beat you.
42:19I'm staying here till I get it.
42:21Let's die.
42:23He's done.
42:24How am I going to get all the vehicles back to Darwin?
