Making a Living (1914) is a Keystone Studios silent comedy directed by Henry Lehrman.

This short is historically significant as Charlie Chaplin’s very first screen appearance. Unlike his later Tramp persona, Chaplin plays a shady swindler who tries to con his way into money and romance. The film features Chaplin in a top hat and monocle, scheming against a rival reporter and getting into slapstick trouble with the police.
