00:00We carried a story about a patient who reached out to us and we just want to let you to
00:04know
00:04that an appointment has been given for March 23rd to that patient. Commenting on the state
00:11of emergency, the land legal affairs minister says the government did not get the required
00:16support in the parliament for measures the government believed would deal with crime.
00:20The minister was responding to a question during the post-cabinet media briefing.
00:24We tried to use the parliament. We didn't get the support in the parliament. We now have
00:29proclaimed another state of emergency based on the exigencies of what is happening.
00:34We have placed boots on the ground. We are increasing manpower and so on. But I would
00:40rely on the minister of homeland security and so on. These matters are very concerning to all of us.
00:46Not just only my constituency, but in my neighbor's constituency also. These are matters I can tell
00:52you that the government is considering actively and Minister Alexander could probably share some
00:57more details with you. I'm listening to the prime minister and I'm staying in my lane.
01:01The state of emergency is in effect without a curfew or any limitations on public gatherings.
01:07The land and legal affairs minister said lowering the homicide rate is a work in progress.
01:12As you reiterate, it is the government's announcement that this country had the lowest
01:16murder rate it has had in the last decade.
01:20That is matters within the purview of the Ministry of Homeland Security. What I can tell you is that
01:25last year we were able to successfully announce that we had reduced the homicide rate or the murder rate
01:33by 42 percent and that was in the last decade. The lowest murder rate we had in the last decade.
01:40It's a work in progress. There's no silver bullet to fix crime. I think all of us can agree
01:46to that that there's no silver bullet, but we are doing what we can right now to bring down
01:50the gangs and the murder rate.
01:53We'll have more news for you after this break.
