00:00Hello backers, this is Jordan and Mitch and Mike, and we're a little punchy because we've been setting up the
00:06booth all day down in a very hot convention center, getting ready for Gen Con.

00:10Right there, in lovely Indianapolis, Indiana.
00:13It's hot!
00:15So we just got the build that we're going to show here at the show, and of course we wanted
00:19to show it to you first, because you are the people that made this game possible.
00:23And before we do, we of course want to back up a giant truckload of caveats, which is that this
00:29is a super pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha version of the game.
00:35What does that mean?
00:35It means that, well, most of the game ain't done yet, and there are big bugs in this stuff that
00:41is done.
00:42But we're proud of what we've done so far, and we're hopefully that done.
00:46We just couldn't wait any longer to show it up.
00:47Exactly.
00:48So, with that, let's talk about our mission.
00:50This is a short mission for being played at the show.
00:54In it, our lance is going to have to take and hold this small salvage base.
00:59You'll see the little starport there.
01:01Our goal is to come in and take it.
01:03A dropship's going to come in, gets loaded up, and we have to hold the base until it takes off.
01:07So that's our plan.
01:09That's our mission.
01:10And why don't, Mitch, why don't you introduce us to our lance?
01:13Let's meet our lance.
01:14Pull in, Mike.
01:15Let's take a look.

01:16Piloting the commando is Bullhorn.
01:19He is a veteran scout, correct, Mike?

01:22And then up to the Shadowhawk, we have Gargoyle, and she is a sniper, correct?

01:31She's kind of going to be our jack of all trades here on the battlefield.

01:45And Myrmidon is also a great shot, too, right?

01:48So he's going to be coming in and giving us some long-range cover, hopefully, with his
01:54twin PPCs.

02:00That is Overload, and Overload is going to wipe the board clean with that atlas.

02:10So at this point, we have not encountered the enemy yet, which means that we're not in
02:14the initiative system, and we can move our guys, you know, without waiting for enemy
02:19any returns.
02:20One of the things that we intend on doing, for instance, in the future in this phase is
02:24not making you wait until one guy completes his move before you're able to initiate another
02:29person's move.
02:31One of the zillions of things that will be worked on between here and the ship.
02:36Moving out.
02:38All right, so we move him up.

02:43I'm actually going to break for this forest over here.

02:49There's our one jump jet capable mech in the lance here, by the way.

03:04So, one of the things that we really wanted to do is to make scouting an important part
03:09of the game.
03:10So, one of the things I can see, like, that contact, we know it's a mech.
03:14We know at this point because it's moved close enough that it's roughly a 25-ton mech, but
03:17we don't know anything more about it.
03:19There's different levels of information you get based upon how far away they are.
03:24So, getting your guys out and scouting is important.
03:25Also, establishing a line of sight allows you to, you know, remotely target.
03:32All right.
03:32So, we're in interleaved teams now.
03:34Here we go.
03:36We are.
03:37I'm going to head for this forest.
03:39Now, let's talk about that a little bit.
03:40You saw when we got into combat that the five phases of initiative showed up at the top
03:44of the screen.
03:45Every mech, based upon its weight class, has an initiative value.
03:50So, our lightest, the commander, is initiative four.
03:52Our heaviest, the atlas, in initiative one.
03:55And, of course, we move to five, four, three, four.
04:02All right.
04:02So, moving up through the trees, they do provide cover, as they should.
04:05You'll notice when we zoom in occasionally, the trees are swaying with a very heavy wind
04:09at the moment.
04:10Something, you know, we're working on.
04:12But we do want things like, you know, our goal is to have trees fall down when we walk
04:16through them, things like that.
04:18We've got some sort of tank coming in here, too.
04:21I think we should flank right, right, along that ridge behind it.
04:28I'll bring the heavies up.
04:30Move the heavies up, right, exactly.
04:32All right, good.
04:32You played before.
04:34A couple times.

04:43I still don't have visual contact on anyone, but it looks like we're getting closer.

04:56Right, so now we can identify it.

04:59Let's talk about movement for a second.
05:01Why don't you raise the camera up a little bit and see on your next move.
05:03Yeah.
05:06As you can tell from the Merrick logo, this is a Merrick base that we're coming into attack.
05:11And I should add that even though we didn't see anything happen on the enemy turn, that's
05:15just because we don't have a sensor or line of sight to any of their units.
05:19Yeah, so they move something off in the fog of war that we weren't aware of.
05:23Exactly.
05:24So you can see, like with the Atlas here, there's a line that's being drawn out based upon where
05:31Mike wants to move.
05:32After he clicks a position to move the mech to that, he can then rotate the orientation
05:38to be able to get different firing arcs.
05:41The amount of rotation that he has available to him is based upon both the mech's capabilities
05:45and how far he's moved.
05:47So mechs obviously don't turn on a dime, but if I were to move a shorter distance, see, I
05:52could rotate.
05:53Oh, okay.
05:53Now I can also sprint, which I'm actually going to choose to do here, which will let me get
05:59my Atlas into the fray sooner.
06:03Moving back!
06:04Now the downside of sprinting is that you can't shoot if you execute an all-out sprint, but
06:10since we aren't in shooting range just yet anyways, I'm happy with that trade-off.

06:46is like critical hits, which are actually taking place in the system right now, but they're not
06:51being called out in the UI yet the way we want them to.

08:25You can see on the far right column there is the percentage you hit.

08:28And so he's going to fire the AC-5 and the LRM with about 55% each on those.

08:38The Shadowhawk's pretty good on heat management.

08:54And that's why it may not have been the smartest move.
08:57Yeah, because a little indirect LRM fire with the hunchy.

09:04So they've got line of sight because they've got a unit up front who's got us in line of
09:09sight, which means those strikers with the LRMs don't need to be in line of sight.
09:13They can take advantage of that.
09:14And yes, we know that, you know, this is what we're trying to play with here is a little
09:18bit to make that scouting that much more powerful.
09:23Oh, yeah, that's great.
09:24So here I'm debating whether to just take a shot at the commando now or move Mermodon
09:30a little bit closer so that he can get more targets in range of his PPCs.
09:34I think I am going to move closer just because I don't want to be moving in future turns.
09:40Just like tabletop, you know, anytime I choose to move, I am going to take a hit penalty.
09:45But the further I move, my unit will also be harder to pick.
09:48Move it out.
09:53Footsteps.

09:55So I've got a good number of targets here.

10:53And vice versa.

10:56You can see that arc line means that I'll be able to fire, or Mike will be able to fire,
11:00the LRMs, because of one of the other spotting units.

11:07It's going to continue overloads.
11:10Slow, inexorable march towards the enemy.
11:12One of the nice things with the big assaults is that if you're zoomed in enough on it, you
11:19actually see the ground shape and the camera shape.
11:22I really want to outpice the commando right now.

14:35because you'll act in phase one
14:36and then you'll act again in phase four.
14:38And this is one of the flexibilities of this initiative system, right?

14:48would reserve themselves
14:49and try to act in phase three
14:51or in phase two
14:51or in phase one.
14:54It shows that lighter units
14:55have a lot more flexibility of movement.
14:56They're actually going to pull
