00:09Good evening, my brothers and sisters. I come before you tonight as a preacher, the son of a preacher, preacher
00:24emerged in the movement at five years old.
00:30I don't come tonight representing any organization, but I come to talk about faith and morality. I know it may
00:42sound strange, but I'm a conservative because I work to conserve a divine tradition that teaches us to do justice,
00:52love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
01:01I've had the privilege of traveling the country with the Reverend Dr. James Forbes and Reverend Dr. Tracy Blackman and
01:09Sister Simone Campbell.
01:13As we are working together in the revival and calling for a moral revolution of values. And as we travel
01:21the country and we see some things, that's why I'm so concerned about those that say so much about what
01:31God says so little, while saying so little about what God says so much.
01:39And so, in my heart, I'm troubled and I'm worried by the way faith is cynically used by some to
01:51serve hate, fear, racism, and greed.
01:57We need to heed the voice of the scriptures. We need to listen to the ancient chorus in which deep
02:07calls unto deep.
02:08The prophet Isaiah cries out, what I'm interested in seeing you doing, says the Lord, as a nation is, pay
02:18people what they deserve.
02:22Share your food with the hungry, share your food with the hungry, do this, and then your nation shall be
02:29called a repairer of the breach.
02:37Jesus, Jesus, a brown-skinned Palestinian Jew, called us, called us to preach good news to the poor, the broken,
02:50and the bruised, and all those who were made to feel unacceptable.
02:55Our constitution calls us to permit our government to establish justice, to promote the general welfare, to provide for the
03:06common defense, and to ensure domestic tranquility.
03:14Now, to be true, we have never lived this vision perfectly, but this ought to be the goal at the
03:23heart of our democracy.
03:24And when religion is used to camouflage meanness, we know that we have a heart problem in America.
03:38There have always been forces that wanted to harden, even stop the heart of our democracy.
03:46But there have always been people who stood together to stir what Sister Dorothy Day called a revolution of the
03:56heart, and what Dr. King called a radical revolution of values.
04:04I say to you tonight, that some issues are not left versus right, or liberal versus conservative, they are right
04:12versus wrong.
04:21We need, we need to embrace our deepest moral values, and push for a revival of the heart of our
04:31democracy.
04:32When we fight to reinstate the power of the voting rights act, and we break the interposition and nullification of
04:47the current Congress, we in the South especially know that when we do that, we are reviving the heart of
04:54our democracy.
04:57When we fight to reinstate the power of the voting rights, when we fight for 15 and a union, and
05:03universal health care, and public education, and immigrant rights, we are reviving the heart of our democracy.
05:21When, when we develop tax and trade policies that no longer funnel our prosperity to the wealthy few, we are
05:32reviving the heart of our democracy.
05:40When, when we love the Jewish child, and the Palestinian child, the Muslim, and the Christian, and the Hindu, and
05:56the Buddhist, and those who have no faith, but they love this nation.
06:05We are reviving the heart of our democracy.
06:09When we fight for peace, and when we resist the proliferation of military-style weapons on our streets, we must,
06:22we must shock this nation with the power of love.
06:29We must shock this nation with the power of mercy.
06:34We must shock this nation and fight for justice for all.
06:39We can't give up on the heart of our democracy, not now, not ever.
06:49You know, we're only going throughout this nation.
06:57You can serve as a sole Congresswoman Clark, and take a seat for justice with very bitterly friends to join
06:57our Nãobanis, give back an mockery that the slaves ağrotecálon Jax use for justice.
