Un video dietro le quinte dedicato allo sviluppo di Shadow Warrior 2.
Trascrizione
00:00I got a good grip on the wang, and low wang.
00:09So for me it was like, yeah, it was a dream come true, you know, working on that game.
00:14It's not a good fun, it's awesome fun.
00:19You say Poland, you think video games. I would like to have that happen.
00:27When I was playing, you know, I felt like, oh my god, I mean, we've made such a huge step,
00:35you know, from Shadow World 1 to Shadow World 2, it's just amazing.
01:04So this is it. We're in Warsaw, Poland. This is the physical home of Flying Wild Hog.
01:11This is Archer, one of the top dogs, or the top hogs.
01:16And this is, of course, also the spiritual home of Low Wang.
01:21Oh, I don't know what Low Wang would have made of a building like that.
01:25Thank you, Mr. Stalin.
01:28Yep.
01:29I'm ready for Wang.
01:30This is it. This is Flying Wild Hog, Warsaw, Poland.
01:34Look at this stately entrance.
01:37This is a palace of development kings.
01:40Okay, so we are going to the sixth floor, which was built atop of the building.
01:51It's a, it's the programmers' room, so they, they do programming, so we shouldn't, I think we shouldn't go, go
01:58in, they're super busy programming.
02:03Everybody's working, actually, look at it. They're working really hard.
02:09Okay, all right.
02:12Arthur here. Come on, no, we have to film it.
02:15We have Arthur here.
02:18This is Arthur in his native habitat.
02:20Yeah.
02:25One of the guys playing yesterday asked, he said, just everything is exploding.
02:31Yeah, he said, this is a test map.
02:34It's a good question, actually, because there was an achievement in Shadow Warrior 1 for destroying the thousands, tens of
02:41thousands of items.
02:42I can't remember how many, but I think like 100,000 items or something like that.
02:47So yeah, we are going to go that direction again.
02:50One of the biggest benefits of working for Hogs is, of course, the view.
02:54It's the most central part of Warsaw, like, you are in the actual middle of Warsaw, I would say.
03:00We are standing in front of the entrance to the Path 2 Tour.
03:04So yeah, it can't get any better.
03:08King Kong ain't got nothing on me.
03:11How did the opportunity to come up to remake it, how did that actually happen?
03:15That was actually, you know, the guys from Devolver Digital, they played our, the first game of Flying Wild Hawk,
03:21which was called Hard Reset.
03:22They played this game, they loved it, and that was the time when they've been searching for some, some studio
03:28who could, because they owned the, the IP, they had the rights, the Shadow Warrior IP.
03:33And they've been searching for a studio capable of, you know, reimagining that game.
03:38So they called us.
03:39From what I've heard, they tried to reach us a couple of times before actually our boss read the email
03:45and he answered them.
03:46Was that Michal?
03:48Yeah, yeah.
03:48So he ignored them, he said, oh, there's some guy here talking about Shadow Warrior.
03:52Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, something like that.
03:55But, I mean, finally, yeah, yeah, we contacted with them.
03:58They came here.
04:00We discussed, you know, how we could actually reimagine this game.
04:05And that was it.
04:06I mean, we were so happy.
04:08I mean, I was, I was so enthusiastic about that, you know, especially that it was not only the FPS,
04:15old school FPS game that I, that I loved at the time.
04:18I'm also a fan of, you know, Japanese culture and pop culture, especially Japanese pop culture.
04:27It wasn't even the remake, more of a reimagination of, you know, original game.
04:33Because, well, as much as I love the original, I, you know, I grew up in the 90s, so along
04:41with the Kings, Duke Nukem and, you know, Lo Wang was something, the story of Lo Wang was something I
04:50loved to play.
04:51The original Shadow Warrior, the very, very first one, was an important game, obviously, for you guys, because you decided
04:59to, decided to revisit the world of Lo Wang.
05:02What was it about that very first game that made, made it stand out for you and made you want
05:07to do that?
05:08Well, you know, we, in Poland, I mean, as you probably know, back in the days, we didn't, console, console
05:15gaming wasn't very popular in Poland, so we mostly played on, on, on PCs.
05:19Yeah.
05:19So, so all of those old school FPS games, you know, like, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem, I don't know, Heretic,
05:27Hexen, Blood, we, we've been raised on that kind of game, so Shadow Warrior had that special place in our
05:33hearts, so when we got the chance to, to, to, to remake this game, I mean, it was like a
05:39dream come true, I mean, we, we knew that game, we, we knew how to, especially after Heart Reset,
05:45we knew how to, how to adapt that old-school elements, to the new game.
06:00So this is the new town?
06:01Yeah, this is the new town, it's also part of the old town.
06:04New town's part of the old town?
06:05Yeah.
06:06That's confusing.
06:08But do you ever actually come down here?
06:10Yeah, I was working here.
06:12Oh, really?
06:12Yeah, in a pub.
06:14Before I started working in the game dev industry.
06:17What happens there?
06:18This is the national stadium.
06:20Is that football?
06:21Yeah, football and all the other stuff.
06:23Is football big here?
06:24Yep.
06:25It's the, like, main sport.
06:27Okay.
06:28I don't know, I never, never thought about what sport was big here.
06:32These fountains are like, like a multimedia installation, they are using lasers and projectors to run some artistic stuff here.
06:41Oh, like, like Jean-Michel Jarre?
06:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:43Jean-Michel Jarre actually did some music, especially for this place.
06:47No way.
06:49So, you say, you're saying you're proud of what Poland's becoming or what Warsaw's becoming and you're part of that,
06:56right?
06:56I mean, you're helping transform the economy with what you're doing, right?
07:01Yeah, we have, like, over 400 companies, like, game dev companies in Poland.
07:06400?
07:07400.
07:08All over Poland.
07:10Like, the largest hub is here in Warsaw.
07:12The second one is in Krakow.
07:15Yeah.
07:15We've got really good technical universities and all the programmers, like, the programmers at our office, most of them finish,
07:24like, the Warsaw University of Technology.
07:26Yeah.
07:27It's really, really a booming sector now.
07:34Who goes now boomstick?
07:37Someone said it earlier today that sequels are an opportunity to do all the things that you couldn't do in
07:42the previous game.
07:43Yeah.
07:43But when I look at Shadow Warrior 2 compared to Shadow Warrior 1, it seems like you've not just done
07:48the stuff you couldn't fit in the first one, you've gone all the way up here.
07:51Oh, yeah.
07:52Of course, we've put a lot of heart into this game.
07:56When I was playing, you know, I felt like, my God, I mean, we've made such a huge step, you
08:04know, from Shadow Warrior 1 to Shadow Warrior 2, that is just amazing.
08:07To start on the second one, Shadow Warrior 2, was that a mountain for you to climb?
08:12Was that, oh, God, where do I go now with this story?
08:15Or was it easy?
08:16Well, actually, I had a few ideas.
08:20And, well, I still need to go back and look at the first script I wrote.
08:27I'm pretty sure there is not much of it right now in the game.
08:32So you're a man who iterates then?
08:34Oh, yeah.
08:35Of course, of course.
08:36Well, I think it's the only good way to write a story.
08:40Iterate, iterate, iterate.
08:42You talk with people, you show it to people, you ask them if they like it or not.
08:47But I like to go deeper to see what they really don't like, what they, what really bothers them.
08:56We are currently going to a nice little Japanese, well, it's a fusion restaurant, not entirely Japanese.
09:02Okay.
09:03But they have awesome ramen.
09:04So we came to Poland and we're going to a Japanese ramen restaurant.
09:09Hell yeah.
09:10Yeah.
09:10Okay.
09:10So we finally made it.
09:12It's, well, personally, my favorite ramen restaurant in Warsaw right now.
09:17I like that.
09:18Your favorite ramen restaurant in Warsaw.
09:20How many ramen restaurants?
09:21A lot of.
09:22We used to see a lot of.
09:23Like there is another one which is really good just over the corner from here.
09:27and there is plenty of others like right now and generally, generally Polish people, they
09:32like Japanese cuisine, especially in Warsaw.
09:35I don't know why, but we, we dig it.
09:37So yeah.
09:38It's an education, but it's Shadow Warrior 2, so we can do well.
09:40Come on, we have to eat Japanese.
09:41We can make a Japanese game.
09:43Come on.
09:54Hey, you want to skip this noise and get a beer?
09:57No?
09:57Okay.
09:58I guess I should go back to killing you then.
10:01We've got randomized and random generated levels.
10:07Each time you will play the game, the level you will be playing will be different.
10:12We have lots of monsters, lots of guns, also each fight on the level will be different.
10:19You will find different loots, you will be able to play in co-op mode up to four players.
10:26Do you think there might be some players out there who will miss the linear nature of the
10:32first game?
10:32I mean, is there less chance to learn the game if you're changing it every five seconds?
10:38I mean, you can learn the game because, you know, whenever you start a mission, even
10:43if you die and you, I don't know, respawn in the nearest checkpoint, the layout remains
10:48the same unless you quit the mission by, by your own choice.
10:53Okay.
10:53Then everything will be, you know, loaded in different configuration.
10:56But I think the game that has, that is focused on, on upgrading your character through combat,
11:01that requires a bit different approach to the level design.
11:07So what's the name of this square?
11:09This is the Newtown Square.
11:11Newtown Square, in the old town?
11:13In the, near the old town, but it's also the part of the old town.
11:16It's really difficult.
11:18It's like, yeah, we have these old town walls and everything outside the walls is called Newtown.
11:25But it's old.
11:26But it's old.
11:27Okay.
11:30So, so this is the bar you worked in before you smashed into the games industry, right?
11:34I worked here for over a year.
11:36It's called Polyester and it's on Freta Street in Warsaw.
11:40Everything I know as a bartender, I was taught in here.
11:43Yeah.
11:44I had a great friend called Dominic and he taught me everything about drinks.
11:48Oh, really?
11:49Yeah.
11:49So you can mix a mean cocktail?
11:50Yep.
11:51Yeah?
11:52Yeah.
11:52What's your number one cocktail?
11:53Long Island Iced Tea.
11:55Okay.
11:55Okay.
12:03So this is Polyester Bar and we are here to find out if they can still make Long Island Iced
12:10Teas
12:12as well as Arturo in the day.
12:21Yeah.
12:22Pretty good.
12:22You should try it.
12:24Okay.
12:28It's good.
12:29But I don't have anything to compare it with.
12:31I've never tasted yours.
12:33It doesn't taste of alcohol at all.
12:36Ah, that's the trick.
12:37We're pushing the limits of really what we should be doing in a bar on an afternoon.
12:43And this is Kahlua and Absinthe.
12:46So, yeah.
12:46I like Kahlua.
12:48I'm a Kahlua kind of person, but Absinthe makes me a little bit nervous.
12:53So, come on.
12:54What do I do?
12:55First you put this finger only into Absinthe, so only the green one, then the middle finger.
13:00But at the same time?
13:01No, no, no.
13:02First this one, then that one.
13:04Okay.
13:04You drink it fast.
13:05Yeah.
13:05Just go down.
13:06And then out again?
13:07Out.
13:08The middle one.
13:09Yeah.
13:09Yeah.
13:09Drink it.
13:10All at once?
13:11Yeah.
13:13Both your fingers.
13:15Oh, wow.
13:20Yeah, okay.
13:25Like a hard knife through demon guts.
13:30Mocap.
13:31Why?
13:32Why not?
13:34Good answer.
13:35You did some mocap work with rabbits as well?
13:36Yeah, of course.
13:37We did the flocking system of rabbits.
13:40How do you mocap rabbits?
13:42Hi, I'm Michal from Mocap PL.
13:45Today we have very difficult task at hand.
13:47We are mocaping rabbits for the way of the weighing.
14:18of course.
14:19I think I broke it.
14:21How does the American spirit of awesome fit with the Polish approach to life?
14:28Is there a clash there?
14:30We are vastly different from Americans.
14:33I'll give you an example of how different Polish community societies and Americans.
14:38So if you ask a person in America, how are you?
14:40The normal answer is, I'm fine, thank you, how are you?
14:44In Poland there is an expression, old, poor, which is a literal translation.
14:50So how are you?
14:50Well, it's bad as always.
14:52You're part of a boom, you've got a great company making great stuff.
15:00There's a lot of amazing stuff going on in video games coming out of Poland generally.
15:04We are happy.
15:06That's good, right?
15:07Oh, we are happy.
15:08Is this challenging your Polish spirit of disillusionment?
15:12My spirit is actually not that much Polish because I'm an optimist and I don't drink beer,
15:17I don't like football.
15:18But answering your question, I would say that, yeah, we are trying to kind of promote the Polish game,
15:24to ensure that we are good at it.
15:25Gaming is the best thing that happened to Poland.
15:31You're not the ugliest thing I've killed today.
15:35Well, look at you, mama's little demons.
15:38Oh, wona.
15:40It's an amazing thing to enjoy so much playing your own game.
15:45I love just to get into it and have this complete, like, lose myself in the game.
15:52Okay, it's not a good fun, it's awesome fun.
15:54Cop is always amazing.
15:56Cop, for me, as a player, is a synonym of amazing.
16:00You should play Shadow Warrior too.
16:02Keep your eyes on Poland, keep your eyes on Shadow Warrior too.
16:06And I'll play my pro.
16:07After all is said and done, you never walk, you never run, you're a winner.
16:18You're a winner
