00:29:16So, I think what brought me all the way out here to Fiji,
00:29:18it's literally on the other side of the planet from where I live,
00:29:21was the chance to get to do the things that I love to do
00:29:23and then get to share that with people that are on a show that I love
00:29:26and getting to come up with what I would want for a reward, you know,
00:29:29with the meal that I would want to have if I was out here.
00:29:31That's cool.
00:29:32It's such a cool thing.
00:29:33Just being a part of something that you love, man,
00:29:35and contributing something to it.
00:29:36I mean, that's where it's at.
00:29:37Like, there's nothing else that I could ask for.
00:29:52First time I went spearfishing was about 17 years ago.
00:29:55We were in the Bahamas and I just absolutely fell in love with it.
00:29:59Being able to interact with nature
00:30:01and being able to be immersed in it and being pushed in places where people don't normally go.
00:30:05It recharges my batteries.
00:30:11Every time that I dive, I see something I haven't seen before.
00:30:14It's literally another universe.
00:30:17Being underneath the water makes me feel small in the most incredible way.
00:30:23I find a lot of peace under the water, but there's definitely different challenges.
00:30:27Sometimes the visibility is not as good.
00:30:29And then sometimes you're in a lot of current.
00:30:31So you're always reading what's happening around you.
00:30:34I imagine that's the same in Survivor.
00:30:35You got to adapt to whatever's happening.
00:30:37And you learn how to be around sharks.
00:30:39There's sharks every day that you're spearfishing.
00:30:41And you're battling them for the fish.
00:30:52When you're close enough to get a shot and it hits the fish, it's an amazing feeling.
00:30:57But that's half the battle.
00:30:58Then you got to get the fish in your hands as fast as you can.
00:31:01Because the sharks, they're going to come after your fish.
00:31:05But once you pull the fish into your body, the shark kind of stops pursuing it.
00:31:10Catching such a big, gnarly fish, that was satisfying.
00:31:13But I didn't want to just bring a bunch of little fish.
00:31:15I wanted to have something impressive.
00:31:17So I can't wait to bring some amazing food.
00:31:19And they're going to eat good.
00:31:20We're going to cook it up and feed them well.

00:53:09almost no expression. Yeah, I mean part of the game is that the strong get stronger and
00:53:14the weak get weaker and sometimes I feel like I'm being punished for not being taller and
00:53:19stronger and younger. I mean I know you have to eat humble pie out here but it feels like that's
00:53:25all I've been eating. And just because you're trying really really really hard doesn't mean
00:53:29you're gonna win the Super Bowl you know. I was just gonna say it's like sports. It's like sports yeah
00:53:33you know maybe you should you should talk about this more than me trust me but yeah. No it's true.

00:54:07this experience a fan of Survivor you know I remember a bit of what Ozzy did on TV but in

00:54:12life Ozzy is the most humble down-to-earth kind dude. Oh man thank you. Yeah I'm not trying to
00:54:19I'm not trying to like you know kiss your ass or something but it's genuine and as much as we're
00:54:23all trying to like factor in existing relationships I think the new relationships forming have been some
00:54:30of the most interesting and powerful that I've experienced in Survivor and I've loved getting to
00:54:34everybody here. And yet you're all about to write down a name and completely blindside one of the
00:54:40six of you. So Ozzy one way to look at this is it's a crisis point. If you vote out
00:54:46the wrong person
00:54:47this tribe may not recover. Well Jeff the fact of the matter is this also presents an opportunity to
00:54:53build trust. Look I'm willing to put it all out there for these guys these guys that I played with
00:54:58they can trust me and they know that in situations where we need something I'm gonna go out and do
00:55:04the best job I possibly can. Christian Ozzy's looking at the other side which is if you survive the bond
00:55:10gets stronger and that purpose can lead to more cohesion. Certainly but there's the big if at the
00:55:16beginning of that if you survive and part of that is trust trusting that not only the group is cohesive
00:55:22but that whatever vote comes next is also not going to come your way. Steph how do you balance
00:55:29your individual gut versus trying to assess what the group gut is to make sure that they are aligned
00:55:36and it's not you tonight? It's hard I mean I'm trying to trust my gut but in a game where
00:55:43you're getting
00:55:43so much information from so many different people it's really hard. There is no 100% your gut is right
00:55:50go with that. Angelina how do you balance it? I always let my instincts be the last word and it's
00:55:57the observations it's the head it's the heart it's all baked in saying this is what I feel is right
00:56:02this is what I'm drawn to this is the right next step that's all I've got out here. Mike obviously

00:56:09has to serve you it has to serve everybody when they make a vote but it also has to serve
00:56:14the group
00:56:15to some degree. Well the thing that's difficult is I have pre-existing relationships with some of
00:56:21these people I am bonding with some people more than others it's you know it's like the dynamics
00:56:27of the group and then there's also yeah your individual you know affinities and so when it
00:56:35comes to voting it's like yeah there's some people you'd rather lose with than win with you know what I
00:56:41mean. And yet Mike it's part of the fun because you're given permission to do your best lying to
00:56:48try to test your powers of persuasion if I can get somebody off of their idea and onto my idea.
00:56:53Yeah maybe there's something about my profession which is basically selling people on a like a random
00:56:59dream that's totally unnecessary and like you know asking them to put a lot of money and resources into
00:57:06it and until you actually turn in what you've done you feel like you're kind of a con artist you
00:57:12know
00:57:12what I mean. That skill is something that I've honed over the years and it is something that like yeah
00:57:18you wonder if it can be put to work out here and it's a muscle that I guess it has
00:57:25a there's a natural
00:57:26aspect to it you know. Christian the interesting thing about what Mike just said is he said in my job
00:57:32I
00:57:33have to create things and I have to sell people I have to almost con them into believing me until
00:57:37I'm able to deliver the finished product and show that it was worth it. Yeah I'm not sure the WGA
00:57:42is
00:57:42I wouldn't put it on my business card but okay. But what I'm getting at is that's a skill every
00:57:48single
00:57:49person needs in this game. What makes it unique with Mike is that that is his actual profession.
00:57:54Well I'll be honest I've never heard Mike describe it in that way that that's part that part of his
00:57:57job but
00:57:58like I I can see it. I think that in every one of our professions there is some kernel we
00:58:03take with
00:58:04us that is useful here on the island. So then how about for you from the standpoint of in your
00:58:10career
00:58:11things are very black and white I'm guessing that you look at things if I do this this will happen
00:58:16versus out here it's much more vague. Yeah I mean a lot of my perspective has changed after playing
00:58:22survivor even in my own profession for sure I mean uh it gave me a lot of ideas for my
00:58:28research for
00:58:29one but more broadly it opened my eyes to when you're working in a world where all the information
00:58:37you have might not be true how do you investigate what's true and what's not that's just how it works
00:58:44in all kinds of professions. So yeah it does recontextualize things I mean I think it makes
00:58:50me more aware and I think that's a good thing. Emily how often during an afternoon where you're
00:58:56trying to figure out who to vote out do you change your mind or consider changing your mind? I think
00:59:02you
00:59:02have to come into conversations with an open mind which means being open to changing your mind and I
00:59:08would say it happens half a dozen times sometimes it goes A to B and then B back to A
00:59:13and then to D
00:59:13and then to C and I will say sitting here in tribal council at this exact moment I am having
00:59:19a sinking
00:59:21feeling. Really? You know I think you pick up on vibes right and vibes are off. Wow anybody else
00:59:38understand what Emily's talking about? What are you feeling? Um that you go about this game thinking
00:59:48one thing and then all it takes is one or two conversations and you find yourself huh did I
00:59:55consider it from that angle and wondering if there were things that I didn't think about
00:59:59that could result in my torch being snubbed tonight.
