00:05We've always attempted to create benchmark visuals
00:07for PlayStation. We wanted to do this
00:09but then with an open world game, so one of the
00:11visions for this game was to do
00:13kind of a Planet Earth, BBC Nature
00:15documentary style game.
00:17We really had to improve the engine
00:19to be capable of rendering
00:21these very big open landscapes.
00:24If you're just exploring
00:25the world and running around, sprinting
00:27going into underground places
00:29there's never a loading screen.
00:31It's all seamless.
00:32This little place.
00:34I haven't been here in years.
00:36So that's what the tech guys have been working on very hard.

00:43In current day games, facial animation and RPGs
00:46isn't necessarily of the highest quality.
00:48And we felt basically it was clearly an area
00:50that we could put some effort into improving.
00:52We have so much interactive dialogue
00:54that the characters that you encounter need to look very good.
00:57on many levels.
00:58Traditionally, people use procedural animation
01:01where they do a lot of mouth flapping
01:03that gets generated by the sound.
01:04We decided to mocap almost 15 hours
01:07of dialogue that we have in the game
01:09and see if we can do it at a higher quality.
01:12For ourselves, we made a gigantic leap
01:13there in the quality of facial animation
01:15and the believability of the characters in the world.
01:17on many levels.
