00:03This machines have masks and they have little desert scarves.
00:06Okay.
00:07They are really adorable.
00:09I mean, I feel awful about you just going through and massacring their little village here.
00:18Hello, my friends, and welcome back to PlayStation Underground.
00:20We are playing Nier Automata, coming to PS4 on March 7th.
00:24I am joined by Neil and Francis from Square Enix.
00:27Hello, gentlemen.
00:28Hello, hello.
00:29Hello.
00:29This is an episode I've been looking forward to because Nier Automata is a very nice looking,
00:34very, let's say, quirky and stylish action game co-developed both by Square Enix and Taro-san
00:42and also the team of Platinum Games.
00:44Yes, yes.
00:44They know their action games.
00:46Platinum Games, they really do know their action games.
00:49Yes, they have a certain style to them, and we've been super excited to be working with them.
00:54And I'm excited to see this kind of fragment of the game, so to speak.
00:58Obviously, a demo available now on PlayStation Store, but you guys wanted to show off a little bit of the
01:03scope of Automata,
01:05and also maybe we can tease a little bit of those RPG elements in the game as well.
01:09Yeah, no, definitely.
01:10So we did want to show off some things that have not been shown before, and here you'll see this
01:15is a bit of a quest hub.
01:16You know, normal shops where you can get upgrades, new weapons, and chips for you to upgrade your Android body
01:24because you are playing an Android.
01:25Everyone in this actual quest hub is an Android.
01:28This is the Android resistance camp that has been placed here,
01:32and they're working to fight against the machines who have invaded Earth.
01:37They've invaded Earth, and they've driven humankind to the moon.
01:41So these androids come to Earth to battle these machines and try to reclaim Earth for mankind.
01:48Okay.
01:48They're so nice to do that.
01:50That seems like a big ask.
01:51Well, they're programmed by the humans to do it.
01:53Okay.
01:53Well, still, I mean, it's still a big ask.
01:55Yes.
01:55Come on, Francis.
01:56Let's be real.
01:56Okay.
01:56You're right.
01:57So we're talking to this weapons trader.
01:59He's going to give us a quest.
02:00So there's a lot of – it is an RPG, so there's quest elements in these quest hubs for you
02:06to gain experience,
02:09to gain rewards, to help you on your journey.
02:13Wonderful.
02:13And I have a lot of questions, which, as we just teased to each other off camera,
02:18you might not be able to answer all of them, but there are going to be some – well, here,
02:23let me start this way.
02:24Okay.
02:25There was an original Nier.
02:27Yes.
02:27Do I need to play the original Nier to understand what's going on here?
02:31You actually do not.
02:33Okay.
02:33It's pretty much a standalone game, and you don't need to know anything that happened in previous Nier to understand
02:40what's happening here.
02:41There will be callbacks to the original Nier that fans of the original Nier may recognize.
02:48And appreciate, I'm sure.
02:49And appreciate, yes.
02:50But you don't need to know anything that happened previously.
02:53Okay, great.
02:54So it looks like this weapon trader wants us to gather some parts for him to repair a device that
03:00he's working on.
03:01And tell us a little bit about these two characters that we're seeing.
03:03These are the main protagonists of the game, correct?
03:06Yes.
03:06The character that you're controlling, 2B, who's running super fast because she's an android.
03:11She is –
03:12That's not how fast you run?
03:13I mean, if I tried really hard, I think I could run at half her speed.
03:17Okay, perfect.
03:18Yeah, she's an android.
03:19She is an infantry-style android, and she's the main protagonist of the game.
03:24Her partner is 9S.
03:27They're both wearing blindfolds.
03:30And 9S is a bit of a scout and a hacker droid.
03:35Nice job, Neil, so far.
03:37Which, by the way, he's said an awful lot during our episode so far, but we'll hear more from Neil
03:42soon.
03:42He has to concentrate.
03:43He's focusing.
03:43Got to concentrate.
03:44Making it look good.
03:45Got to kill the bad guys.
03:47So –
03:48Yeah, tell us a little more about what we're seeing here.
03:50As you're walking around this puddle and – sorry, this little pond, you can see prompts to go fishing.
03:57Oh.
03:57So it's a game where you can actually – you can go fishing.
04:00And what happens is you go fishing by throwing your pond into the water, and it goes fishing for you.
04:07Oh, there we go.
04:08Perfect.
04:08It's so helpful.
04:09We definitely wanted to show some elements of the game that are a little bit quirky, a little bit, you
04:14know, not seen.
04:15She's actually sitting on what appears to be some sort of stool that she has brought with her.
04:21That is amazing.
04:22I believe there was fishing in the original Nier as well.
04:25Yeah, there was.
04:25A little callback there.
04:26Yep.
04:27Perfect.
04:28So let's see what we catch.
04:29This is actually going to be the entire episode.
04:31Yeah, yeah.
04:32Just fishing.
04:33Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to watch 25 minutes of professional Nier fishing.
04:38Oh, okay.
04:39I thought I got a bite, but I didn't.
04:40All right, let's see if I can catch something.
04:42Neil, I'm going to maybe give you one and a half more chances on this, and then I'm going to
04:46recommend that we move on to something else.
04:48Just so that we don't lose every single viewer.
04:51Who doesn't love fishing?
04:52That's right.
04:53That's true.
04:54Okay, how about this?
04:55This is the relaxing portion of the episode, because there's going to be so much thrilling,
04:58white-knuckle combat.
05:00I got a bite.
05:00You got something.
05:01Oh, that's just sad.
05:02Oh, yeah.
05:05You got to kill a fish machine.
05:07I couldn't even see the fish on the lure.
05:10And your fish encyclopedia has been updated.
05:12No more fishing.
05:13No more fishing.
05:15Across the map, you'll see a lot of little glowy things that you can pick up.
05:19These are just items that you can gather for crafting or anything like that.
05:24We promise there are bigger fish to catch.
05:26Yes, there are.
05:27I've seen them.
05:27Would you say there are bigger fish to fry?
05:29Possibly.
05:30Possibly.
05:31So the map is very open.
05:36It's also very rich.
05:39Rich.
05:40Dense with items.
05:41But it's very interactive.
05:44So because you're an android, you can double jump.
05:46Perfect.
05:47Like all androids.
05:48Based on your abilities, you can also double jump and also cancel an attack that you do midair to push
05:54yourself even higher to reach new heights.
05:56Yeah.
05:56So you'll see right here my double jump isn't actually high enough to get on top of this.
05:59Right.
06:00Okay.
06:00But if I actually use one of the aerial attacks in the middle and then cancel out of it, it'll
06:07allow her to get up even higher.
06:10So now she's able to get up there.
06:12Nice.
06:12So there's a lot of interactivity and you'll find certain rewards if you were able to reach these places and
06:18you can flip across and make it look really stylish.
06:20Well done, Neil.
06:22Another gold star for you.
06:24Another Nier star for you.
06:27Now tell me a little bit about the combat system because obviously the team of Platinum Games prides itself and
06:32rightly so on extremely frantic, skill-based, really rewarding combat systems.
06:40I mean, it's especially the case in some of my favorite action games, which I will not name here because
06:45they're from different companies.
06:46But tell me a little more.
06:48So part of the combat system is actually the pod.
06:51The pod is your ranged attack weapon.
06:55He can use certain skills.
06:57He's actually something you can also level up yourself.
06:59So your pod can level up with you and we'll show off one of the abilities.
07:03That's the laser.
07:03Let's do it one more time so we can see the actual full-on laser.
07:08Charge it up.
07:08Yeah.
07:09Waiting to recharge my lasers.
07:11Oh, the dodge is rad sauce.
07:14So the dodge is if you hit dodge at a certain point, like right when the enemy attacks you, yes,
07:19you'll disappear into the ether and you'll completely dodge the attack.
07:23It looks really stylish.
07:24And then if you hit an attack button right afterwards, you'll do a special dodge attack.
07:29Looks really cool.
07:29So we're going to change our abilities out so we can show off another one and we're going to change
07:34to the hammer.
07:37Please.
07:37So your pod is going to actually materialize into a hammer and we're going to smash one of these enemies
07:43to bits.
07:44Oh, my God.
07:46That's fantastic.
07:49It's maybe a little overkill for that particular enemy.
07:52But we've got to make sure they're dead.
07:53Right.
07:53You know?
07:53Yeah.
07:54Always make sure.
07:57This is the place that weapons trader was talking about.
08:00Uh-oh.
08:01I'm picking up hostile machine life forms.
08:05So as you can tell in your mini-map with the big red circle that this is the quest area
08:08where the weapons trader wanted us to go to pick up some of our parts that he needs to repair
08:14his device.
08:15And it's being guarded by big machines with axes.
08:19I don't know where they got them, but...
08:21Well, they probably got them at the axe.
08:22Axeman.
08:23The machine axe store, obviously.
08:25Axeman was the best I could do in that situation to come up with where they got their axe.
08:30Let's go buy our axes at Axeman, guys.
08:32Need an axe?
08:33Axeman's got your back.
08:34You need a ride to Axeman.
08:39So these guys are doing massive damage.
08:41Yes.
08:42Neil, please be careful.
08:43Please.
08:43Oh, watch.
08:44Oh, see.
08:44So since you're an android, things go black and white.
08:47Things go haywire because he is dead.
08:50Okay.
08:50So...
08:51Oh, no.
08:52Oh, no.
08:52Neil, what have you done?
08:53What will happen?
08:53What have I done?
08:54So something that you've never seen before for Nier Automata is the reliquary system.
09:00So because you're an android, when you die, you leave your body behind.
09:05But your data and your memories and all the upgrades that you have are uploaded into a new body.
09:13So they're uploaded into a new body and they're sent back to the bunker, to the moon, and they come
09:18back down to Earth to continue venturing.
09:21Okay.
09:22So what happens is your body is still there.
09:24Your old body is still there.
09:25So if you come across your old body on the map, you can do two things.
09:31You can either retrieve it for parts or you can try to repair it.
09:36So you can try to repair it.
09:37And if you repair it successfully, it will become an ally and it will help you in combat.
09:42No way.
09:43Are you guys kidding me with this?
09:44Pretty cool.
09:44So we have awesome blade-wielding android ninja lady.
09:50Yes.
09:50We have a long-range robot with materializing powers.
09:57Yes.
09:57We have a reincarnation system that allows you to bring back your body.
10:06Yes.
10:06And help you in combat.
10:08So the other option is to just retrieve it and retrieve parts from it.
10:13Okay.
10:13Right, which is what we're going to do here.
10:15Oh, okay, fine.
10:16So instead of repairing it, we want to leave that to the imagination of the audience for when the game
10:23actually comes out.
10:24Francis, I'm not happy about this, but okay.
10:28Some things we do want to keep close to the chest.
10:32But do know that it is possible.
10:34Okay, perfect.
10:35That's all I needed to know.
10:36And this time, Neil can show off his true skill.
10:40It's almost as if you guys planned that whole bit.
10:42I, for the record, I totally died on purpose.
10:49Neil, how many hours would you say you've put into this game already just to get to your skill level
10:54right now?
10:55I've put in a few.
10:55A few.
10:56The really neat thing about the game is that even with very little time spent and, you know, not a
11:03whole lot of skill, you can do some really cool flashy things.
11:08But there's a ton of depth.
11:11So, you know, with the whole, you know, being able to cancel out of any attack, you know, if I
11:15go into a combo but then dodge, I can cancel out of that combo.
11:18So there's a ton of depth.
11:20So we feel like, you know, it's something that has a chance to appeal to, you know, maybe folks who
11:25are more into RPGs that don't have a huge action element, but then also those hardcore action gamers that will
11:31get all of that depth.
11:32They want to build combos.
11:33They want to experiment with different, you know, battle setups.
11:36And here we go.
11:37Here's our old body.
11:39We can hold circle.
11:40We can retrieve it.
11:41And that's what we're going to do.
11:43Or we can repair it.
11:44So what happens if I forgot to talk about the other option.
11:47Okay.
11:48So when you repair it, one of two things can happen.
11:50It can become an ally.
11:51Right.
11:52Or it can, if you left it there for too long, it can become corrupt.
11:55Ah.
11:56And it'll become an enemy.
11:57Oh.
11:58But if you defeat your old self, you'll get even more bonuses.
12:02Okay.
12:03Yes.
12:04So would you say it would be more beneficial to let your old body become corrupt and then defeat it
12:12for added bonus?
12:13It depends if you really want the bonus or if you actually need the help in combat.
12:16Okay.
12:17Depends on the situation.
12:18I see.
12:18Yeah.
12:19Tactical choices to make depending on the situation.
12:23Now, Francis, something tells me that we are not in modern day Earth.
12:27He missed.
12:28Oh, it's okay.
12:29That's the jump that I was practicing earlier and I missed it.
12:32I mean, that's not the end of the world though, right?
12:34Second time's a charm.
12:36I mean, this is the end of the world in that the world seems to have ended in this game,
12:41but.
12:42It's a new world.
12:42Not the end of my world.
12:44Ah, I see.
12:44It's the beginning of the Android world.
12:46I see.
12:46And the new world for humankind is the moon.
12:51There you go.
12:52Hey, look at that.
12:53There we go.
12:54So, dude, that was like a few inches.
12:57Yeah, it was really close.
12:59Well, it just kind of goes to show, you know, there's these very high locations you can get to and,
13:04you know, there might be some things that.
13:06You might want to.
13:07Are you saying you might want to poke around and explore a bit?
13:10Exactly.
13:12Tell me a little bit about the weapon selection that we have here, guys.
13:16Yeah.
13:17So, there are four types of weapons that 2B can wield.
13:20Other than her pod, she can wield a greatsword, which is a two-hand sword that you see on her
13:24back right now.
13:26There is a one-handed small sword, which is the katana that she's wielding right there.
13:30Pertuous Contract, that's the name of it.
13:33She can also just fight with her bare fists.
13:35She's an android, so she's very strong.
13:36So, she can really, like, manhandle these androids.
13:40Okay.
13:41And that's the fist weapon.
13:44So, she can wear bare fists.
13:46She can, sorry, utilize her bare fists.
13:48Bare fists, great swords.
13:49Or she actually has actual fist weapons, which we've seen in previous trailers as well.
13:52Awesome.
13:52And the other, the fourth is the lances.
13:55Okay.
13:56Yeah.
13:56Like spears.
13:57And then in terms of, like, skills and, you know, combo types,
14:01is this a system that has, is this a game that has an unlocking system for your skills?
14:05Like, for example, if I want to wield a greatsword, do I unlock various greatsword skills?
14:10No.
14:11How is that set up?
14:12So, greatswords, once you acquire a weapon, you can utilize it whenever you want.
14:16Fully utilized.
14:17Yes.
14:17Got it.
14:18Yes.
14:18But the cool thing about it is you can have two sets of loadouts.
14:23Okay.
14:24So, you can have, depending on your play style, how you want to play,
14:27if you like a certain weapon better than the others,
14:28you can have, you know, you can utilize your fist weapon with your smallsword
14:33or your fist weapon with your greatsword or your lances with your smallsword.
14:38Depending on how you want to play, you can switch those out.
14:40And they're attached to small attacks, light attacks, and heavy attacks.
14:47So, but you can have your lightsword on a heavy attack button or a light attack button.
14:53They'll do different things.
14:53Okay.
14:54And how is player progression then measured and also kind of rewarded in the game?
15:00If you're not unlocking skills, kind of how does players advance the, you know,
15:05is it 2B?
15:062B.
15:06I don't want to get her name wrong.
15:072B skills and whatnot in her level.
15:10We got rewards.
15:11Yay.
15:11Congratulations.
15:13So, the progression is level-based.
15:16Level-based.
15:16As you level up, you gain bonuses to your attack.
15:20This will probably happen as we go.
15:22You'll get bonuses to your attack, your defense, and your HP.
15:25Cool.
15:26Yeah.
15:28Now, what's that lady got to say?
15:29Looks like she has something for us.
15:31Okay.
15:32This is Anemone.
15:33She is actually the resistance leader of this area.
15:40Same composer in this game as the original Nier.
15:42Do we know off the top of your head, Francis?
15:44It is.
15:45Yes, it is.
15:45Yeah, it has that same kind of haunting melodies.
15:48Yes.
15:49Yeah, I love it.
15:49The music is very beautiful.
15:52It's gorgeous.
15:53Yeah, that was actually kind of maybe one of my highlights from the original game was the compositions.
15:58Yeah.
15:59People love the music from the original Nier, and this one is no different.
16:03Okabe-san, who did the music for the original Nier,
16:07they had a concert last April in Japan, which was very beautiful.
16:12Coordinates confirmed for location specified by...
16:15...resistance leader.
16:16Understood, 042.
16:18Placing marker on target.
16:19So...
16:20The desert heat is going to make resupply efforts difficult to be.
16:23Please make sure you're ready before you go.
16:25Sorry.
16:26You're like...
16:27The...
16:28So the pod does multiple things.
16:30This actually acts as, oh, look, we just found something behind a waterfall.
16:33Ooh.
16:34You gotta explore.
16:35There's always treasure behind the waterfall.
16:37You always gotta check.
16:38Always.
16:39Yeah.
16:39If you are playing a video game and you see a waterfall, I want you to check that waterfall.
16:43It doesn't matter if it's like an 8-bit waterfall.
16:45No, it doesn't matter.
16:46A 3D waterfall.
16:46No.
16:47There's always something there.
16:47Could be a black and white waterfall, a colored waterfall.
16:50It doesn't matter.
16:51Rainbows, I don't care.
16:52You check behind that waterfall.
16:54Yes.
16:55So the pod acts as more than just a ranged attack weapon.
16:59It acts as your communication device between Earth and the bunker.
17:03So those...
17:05It'll display holograms and it'll tell you where you need to go.
17:09The operator on the other side will be like, this is where we marked on the map.
17:12This is where the quest is.
17:14You need to go here.
17:15Awesome.
17:23I'm just listening to the music.
17:24I'm just jamming out and relaxing, guys.
17:26Hope you don't mind.
17:27Now, are these enemies that you're running past or just like harmless machines?
17:33So for some unknown reason, these machines are passive and they're not attacking you when they usually would.
17:41For this certain area, the machines are passive.
17:43But it is a story element.
17:45Until Neil starts wrecking shop.
17:48Until provoked.
17:49Yes.
17:50You leave those machines alone, sir.
17:53They're not doing anything to you.
17:57Those poor machines.
17:59All they did was exist and have me ask a question.
18:03Oh, look at its pathetic attack.
18:05As you can see, they've learned their combat methods from five-year-olds.
18:09Yeah.
18:11I used to do that move.
18:14Climb this tower and see if there's any goodies at the top.
18:20If there are no goodies at the top, I'm going to be real disappointed.
18:23There's a goodie.
18:24Check the box.
18:25Check the box.
18:27Okay.
18:27There we go.
18:28A range defense up S.
18:29You can look around and just see how vast the ruins are of the previous human world.
18:37Hang down off your pod.
18:39See if you can get more goodies.
18:41Yeah.
18:41There does seem to be quite a bit of exploration involved in this game.
18:45Yeah.
18:49So, as you can see, there's still animals on the planet.
18:52So, humans were driven off, but they didn't take animals with them.
18:55So, they're just left here to deal with the machines, you know, as they can't get in a rocket and
19:03go to the moon with you.
19:04I mean, says you, I'm going to bring as many animals as I can to the moon.
19:08Two of each.
19:10Yeah.
19:11Exactly.
19:15Okay.
19:15This looks totally safe.
19:17Completely safe.
19:18I think we're good.
19:19I'm sure it's fine.
19:20It's not wrecked yet at all.
19:23Alert.
19:24Alert.
19:27Okay.
19:27So, that machine looks pretty powerful.
19:30Yeah.
19:30And we're only level five, so we're going to run past him.
19:32It looks like he's doing some crazy attacks.
19:35That's just his dance move.
19:36Oh, he's just going to fly.
19:37I'll just leave him be.
19:38Yeah, it's fine.
19:39So, this is an abandoned, ruined mall.
19:42So, this is where you'd usually find some kind of clothing shops or whatever, but we can use it to
19:49just explore
19:50and just show you the extents of the ruins that the planet has been left in.
19:58And there might be more goodies.
20:00I like how even in the midst of, in the wake of all this death and destruction, we do have
20:06goodies to enjoy.
20:07So, animal bait.
20:08We got animal bait and we just saw some animals.
20:11So, why don't we just go back outside and try to use it?
20:16Okay.
20:16And see what happens.
20:17Why don't we?
20:18Hmm.
20:19Hmm.
20:19I wonder, I sure wonder what's going to happen.
20:21I don't know.
20:24Now, I hope what doesn't happen is that you somehow turn them into machines and they become like mechanized moose
20:30bots or boar bots.
20:34I think that might be pretty fun.
20:36Okay.
20:36Let's see what happens.
20:37Well, if you would like to just submit my suggestion to Taro-san.
20:41I'll tell Taro-san.
20:41Yeah.
20:42I'm sure you have a direct line of communication.
20:44How come the machine, how come the animals aren't machines?
20:47Now, I want to feed the moose, but what are the chances the boar is going to come try to
20:51steal it?
20:52Pretty high.
20:53Oh, he's going to run.
20:54Oh, look.
20:55Oh, come on.
20:56The moose needs food, too.
20:58Come on.
20:59Look at it.
20:59He's trying to eat this crunking wall.
21:01He's so tired and weak.
21:02He needs to eat.
21:03He needs food.
21:04I'm sad.
21:06You guys, I didn't know this episode of Underground was going to be such a drag.
21:09All these poor animals dying of starvation.
21:13Oh, there we go.
21:15There you go.
21:16Okay.
21:16Oh, there's another one.
21:17Okay.
21:18Are they going to fight for it?
21:20So, you can hit circle and you can bounce up.
21:25So, the moose and the boar, you can ride the boar as well.
21:31It will help you travel around faster, get places faster.
21:34Awesome.
21:35You can actually sprint.
21:37Moose friend.
21:38Moose friend to the rescue.
21:40Just riding around, I'm a moose friend.
21:44You can have that added to the compositions as well.
21:46I think we should.
21:47We'll add it to the OST soundtrack.
21:49Perfect.
21:49So, the moose can do more than just let you travel.
21:51It can actually run these machines.
21:54It can help you in battle.
21:58This moose is doing some damage.
22:00Yeah.
22:01Maybe not as practical as using all your swords.
22:05But it's fun.
22:06Right.
22:07Exactly.
22:08Who wants practicality when you can have fun, raw fun?
22:12Got to have fun.
22:15Now, how much would you say your partner assists you in combat?
22:20Because he seems like he's playing a slightly more passive role.
22:25You can set, you can go to him and set his abilities.
22:30Do you want him to be passive?
22:32Do you want him to be aggressive?
22:33Cool.
22:33He's like a sidekick.
22:35I actually have him set to passive right now.
22:37I see.
22:38Just so that you can show off everything.
22:39Exactly.
22:40I see.
22:40He's quite helpful.
22:429S is a good dude.
22:43Maybe almost too helpful when you're trying to demo the game.
22:46Yeah.
22:46Especially when you're trying to die on purpose.
22:48I see.
22:49Yeah.
22:49Sometimes he will come to the rescue.
22:51Now it all makes sense.
22:52I see.
22:53So the landscape has drastically changed.
22:55We were just in a ruined, foresty, jungly area.
22:59And now we're in a deserty area.
23:03That's a word, right?
23:04Deserty?
23:05Deserty?
23:05Yeah.
23:05I think that's a word.
23:06I think you, I mean, the world is over, man.
23:08You can, we're in a fallen desert.
23:11Webster's dictionary does not exist anymore.
23:12Yeah, it does not.
23:14Currently, our struggle against the machine life forms is at a stalemate.
23:18I think we're getting a pep talk.
23:20This battle has raged for far too long.
23:22I am sure all of you find the effort grueling.
23:26Is this a human talking to you?
23:27But now is not the time to give up.
23:29Now, more than ever, we must forge on.
23:33Remember that several hundred thousand humans on the moon want nothing more than to return to Earth.
23:40Glory to mankind.
23:43Those council broadcasts are always so stiff.
23:48So a council of some kind.
23:50Interesting.
23:52Glory to mankind, guys.
23:55So what you just saw?
23:57Oh my goodness.
23:57So if you're battling a machine and you're close to death, usually you'll get a prompt to hit circle and
24:06you'll do one of these cool little cinematic attacks to finish them off.
24:09Awesome.
24:10Do you get any bonuses for that or is it just a bonus in style?
24:14Bonus in style.
24:14Perfect.
24:15Style points.
24:16Do it again.
24:17Boom.
24:18Now, there is a pipe on the ground that it almost looked like she tripped over as you ran over
24:23it.
24:23Was that actually an animation that I saw or did I just envision it?
24:27That's awesome.
24:28Yeah.
24:28So you'll trip on things.
24:29Oh man.
24:30That is a great.
24:31Hats off to the animation team for even thinking of that.
24:35That is fantastic.
24:36Yeah.
24:36When you're running through the ruined city in the jungly area, there'll be like these little small little plants that
24:42you'll run through.
24:43She's just tripping all over the place.
24:45I'll be in like full on sprint mode and I'll like trip on a little plant and it'll do that
24:50thing and it'll slow me down.
24:51That's awesome.
24:53Doodly dood.
24:54So quick little side note, whenever you destroy a machine, it'll drop these little things on the floor.
25:01That's actually the in-game currency.
25:02Okay.
25:03The in-game currency right now is since it's the apocalypse, it's the post-apocalyptic world, the currency is actually
25:11just bits of these machines.
25:13Okay.
25:14Yeah.
25:14Like various wires and components and whatnot.
25:16They're called G.
25:17G?
25:18Yeah.
25:18Okay.
25:19I'm just going to say that that stands for Gil.
25:21Yeah.
25:22It could.
25:22I mean, it's a Square Enix game.
25:24Maybe different you.
25:25Oh, my goodness.
25:26So here's this.
25:27That immediately made me think of the original Nier, which had some really interesting bullet hell elements to it.
25:33And I believe that is the case in Automata as well.
25:36That is the case.
25:37Many of the machines that you'll face in the open world and also in boss fights have bullet hell elements
25:44to it.
25:44This isn't very hellish yet since this is just a normal little dude will flail on his arm.
25:49He's doing his best.
25:50He's apparently doing pretty well against Nier.
25:53He's like, I'll give you hell.
25:56Not hellish enough, huh?
26:00So you just leveled up, yeah, as you saw.
26:03And, yeah, that's when you get bonuses to your attack and you do more damage and gain more health, be
26:10able to survive longer.
26:13Now, in the interest of time, I want to make sure we see whatever, everything you guys wanted to bring.
26:18So did you have anything else you wanted to focus on or show us?
26:21No, we're almost at the end, actually.
26:23Perfect.
26:23Oh, well, look at my timing.
26:24Oh, very close.
26:27The ending is just fishing again.
26:30Yeah, we go back to the same river.
26:32You're like, all right, here we are.
26:34All day, every day.
26:36Hey, our leader told me all about you.
26:39Name's Jackass.
26:40Nice to meet you.
26:42I hear you're planning to take out all the machines in the desert.
26:45Guess that means we need to get that entrance open.
26:49Looks like it.
26:51So, um, Jackass, was it?
26:56Uh, what are you doing all the way out here?
26:59Hmm?
27:00Oh, that?
27:02Well.
27:06Wouldn't want to have anyone getting tangled up in that, now would we?
27:10Don't go trying to be a hero, all right?
27:14So, the reason we wanted to show you that is there are NPCs all over the map in the open
27:18world
27:19helping you with your quests, trying to get you through certain points to get to, uh, to finish quests and
27:25things like that.
27:26Um, so Jackass is one of the, one of the NPCs that you'll encounter along the way.
27:32She has a perfect name.
27:34Yeah, I think so.
27:35Jack, last name.
27:38So there will also be machines, uh, that differ from different environments.
27:42So these machines have masks and they have little desert scarves.
27:46Okay.
27:47They are really adorable.
27:49I mean, I feel awful about you just going through and massacring their, their little, uh, village here.
27:55But they drove humankind away.
27:58They need to pay for that.
27:59We need to find out why, Francis.
28:02And you will.
28:03And I'm sure you can just tell me all that right now.
28:05Oh, Jesus, Neil.
28:07That guy wants to tell you.
28:08Totally unnecessary.
28:11Hut, hut, hut, hut.
28:13She's moving.
28:14Yep.
28:15And this is actually where we want to end it.
28:17And, uh, this is the desert zone.
28:20Uh, and as you can see, it's like a vast new other area of the map of the, of the
28:26world that's been left behind by humans.
28:29And it's full of, it's a new quest area.
28:32There might be a quest hub out there.
28:33Might be multiple quests.
28:35Uh, and it's just like the area that we just left with elements that, uh, are left for you to
28:41discover.
28:42Awesome.
28:43Well, gentlemen, thank you so much for joining me on, uh, PlayStation Underground today.
28:47You're so welcome.
28:47Thanks so much for having us.
28:49Absolutely.
28:49Nier Automata is coming out to PS4 on March 7th.
28:53Uh, good for all those who, even if not played the original Nier, especially those who either enjoy, uh, open
28:59-ended RPGs or definitely action games.
29:02Definitely.
29:03Uh, yes, for both.
29:04Uh, and for more, of course, stay tuned, PlayStation Underground.
29:07And, uh, thank you for watching.
29:08We'll see you next time.
29:09We'll see you next time.
