00:05I'm Jeff from the Overwatch team. Welcome to today's Developer Update.
00:10This one is particularly exciting for me because we get to introduce you to Uprising,
00:15the new Overwatch event, which is now live.
00:18So I want to talk a little bit about why we decided to make this event.
00:23We listen to community feedback a lot. We really care what you guys have to say.
00:28And we've seen all the enthusiasm for the previous events that we've run,
00:32like Halloween Terror or Winter Wonderland.
00:35And we've seen a lot of desire for a non-real-world related holiday event.
00:42So something that we came up with kind of out of the blue.
00:45There's also been a big desire in the community to hear more story behind Overwatch.
00:50And then add to that, we got such a favorable response to Junkenstein's Revenge
00:56that people really enjoyed playing a little bit more PvE or fighting AI-controlled enemies,
01:03that there was this great convergence on the development team to create this event called Uprising.
01:09So a little history behind the event.
01:11What we wanted to do was create something that allowed us to take any moment from Overwatch history,
01:18almost pulling out of the declassified Overwatch archives and saying,
01:24here was a cool moment in Overwatch history.
01:26We want to deliver it to you and let you as a player live through it firsthand.
01:32So what we chose was a moment in Overwatch history that we call the golden era of Overwatch.
01:38So in the Overwatch timeline, there was the Omnic Crisis when Overwatch was formed.
01:43That was sort of 30 years before the game that you guys know and play every day took place.
01:50Then there were the golden years that took place after the Omnic Crisis was resolved.
01:55But when Overwatch, the organization was in its heyday.
01:58And then there was the fall of Overwatch, which we talked a little bit about in the 76 teaser video
02:06that we showed.
02:07So this takes place in the golden era.
02:09And what's special about this event is that it is Tracer's first mission with Overwatch.
02:15And you'll see we're putting out a comic along with this.
02:18And I encourage you all to read it.
02:20But you'll see at the time Tracer's sort of in training.
02:24But we're going to send a crack team in to deal with the conflict that's taking place in King's Row.
02:30And that crack team is Reinhardt, Mercy, and Torbjorn.
02:33And they need somebody who's familiar with the area and who better than Tracer to come in with them.
02:39So this event will manifest itself in a number of ways to you as a player.
02:45One, there's a cool new loot box that has all sorts of really great items.
02:50Not only does it have the skins that the golden era Overwatch characters wore.
02:56So you'll see the Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy, and Tracer skins.
03:00But we also sort of selectively pulled out some really cool moments in Overwatch history to make skins for as
03:07well.
03:07So you'll see Genji and McCree's Blackwatch skin or a Talon version of Widowmaker that we think is really cool.
03:15So there's some good skins for you guys to enjoy.
03:18The loot boxes have a lot of other cool stuff in there.
03:22Great animation and some cool sprays and voice lines.
03:25So hopefully those are really appealing to you as well.
03:29And the thing that we're most excited about are the two game modes that we're adding to the arcade for
03:35this.
03:36So the main one is called Uprising, just like the event.
03:39And that's where you get to step into one of these four characters and play through this really cool event
03:46that's all PvE.
03:48It's much longer than Junkenstein's was, so you'll get to experience a lot more.
03:53There's a lot of story there.
03:55There's some really interesting other things going on like Morrison and Ana Amari are sort of giving you direction over
04:03your comms.
04:03So hopefully that gives you a little bit more insight into what Overwatch was like back in the day as
04:09well.
04:10And then for the arcade, again, based on feedback that we heard from you with Junkenstein's Revenge,
04:16we also are adding another card to the arcade which is the exact same Brawl, Uprising,
04:23but you could play with any hero you want.
04:26So you can pick any of the 24 heroes and try all sorts of crazy combinations to see,
04:31hey, look how overpowered D.Va and Zarya are together.
04:37Or look at how challenging it is if we do it with four DPS and no healers.
04:42That could be a really fun challenge for you.
04:45So we heard a lot of desire that after the Junkenstein event,
04:49people wanted to play with whatever hero they wanted.
04:50So we're giving you sort of two versions.
04:53The intended version, but also the super fun, you know, play whoever you want version.
04:58There are achievements that some of them apply to one of the cards and most of them apply to the
05:05other cards.
05:06So there's achievements that you can unlock and there are spray rewards for those as well.
05:11Really, you know, at its core, Overwatch was designed to be a PvP game.
05:17And we really believe in that six versus six, you know, player versus player, team based action shooter.
05:23That's what the game was designed to be.
05:25But we had so much fun making Junkenstein's Revenge and your response to it was so overwhelmingly positive.
05:33And a lot of us have worked on PvE games before, like World of Warcraft or the Starcraft campaign,
05:40that it was just so much fun for us to try to branch out and do something a little bit
05:44different.
05:45So we hope you not only enjoy all of the story elements that exist in the Uprising event,
05:50but also the new gameplay that hadn't really existed in any other form in Overwatch to date.
05:57So we hope you have as much fun with Uprising when it comes to playing it as we did with
06:03making it.
