00:00The High Court struck out an originating summons filed by lawyer P. Waitamurti seeking to invalidate Anwar Ibrahim's election as
00:07Tambun MP and his appointment as Prime Minister.
00:11Justice Alice Loke allowed the Prime Minister's application and ordered Waita to pay Anwar 80,000 ringgit in costs.
00:18Waita had sought a declaration that Anwar should not have been elected in the November 2022 general election or appointed
00:24Prime Minister.
00:25He contended that Anwar's 2018 royal pardon did not explicitly lift the five-year disqualification under the federal constitution, making
00:33his election and appointment null and void.
00:36Justice Alice Loke ruled that the originating summons disclosed no reasonable cause of action and was frivolous, vexatious, and an
00:43abuse of the court's process.
00:46Waita later said he would appeal the decision.
