00:05Welcome to another Developer Update. I'm Jeff from the Overwatch team.
00:09We've taken you to a lot of places in Overwatch.
00:12We've taken you to King's Row and Ilios and Hollywood.
00:16But today we're taking you someplace very exciting, to the moon.
00:20So we've heard a lot of requests for more maps and more story
00:24and we're very excited to bring you the Horizon Lunar Colony
00:28because we feel like we're delivering on two promises there.
00:32One, it's another great assault map and we really felt like the game needed another assault map.
00:38We're playing around with some really fun elements in this assault map.
00:44For example, both the attackers and defenders on the first point that you're trying to capture
00:52will have some interesting high ground options.
00:54Now it's not the world's best high ground for the attackers,
00:58but there are some good situations that we think heroes like Widowmaker
01:02will have some definite good opportunities with the high ground there.
01:08We also are trying some different things on the ladder point of the map as well.
01:14There's a really neat high ground approach and defender high ground scenario
01:18that you can set up on that point B.
01:22So we're really looking forward to seeing how teams approach.
01:25The second capture point also has a number of low ground options and flanking options.
01:33So we know that sometimes in a map like Hanamura it can feel very restricted
01:38where a team approaches that final point.
01:41And we're hoping that this map that takes place on the moon
01:45will give you some more options approaching that second point.
01:48Now, the other thing that I know everybody is excited about
01:52when you talk about the moon, you have to instantly talk about gravity.
01:57Because we know that there's lower gravity on the moon.
02:00And we start to think about, you know, how might that play in Overwatch?
02:04Well, we explored a lot of different options for the moon map.
02:10At first we had low gravity in the whole map,
02:12and we felt like it sort of turned the game a little bit into a gimmick.
02:17And while it was fun for a little bit, it broke the game in some ways,
02:22while fun, that took away from the competitive nature of Overwatch
02:26and sort of the solid feel of the game.
02:28But we didn't want to get rid of that altogether.
02:31So as you're approaching point A on this lunar map,
02:37you'll notice that there are some airlock doors off to your right
02:41if you're an attacker.
02:42Now, if you go out those airlock doors,
02:45don't worry for whatever magical reason you can still breathe out there
02:49and you won't instantly implode.
02:51But we've enabled the low gravity on that section.
02:55And we think we've struck a really good middle ground here
02:57where it's a rare kind of out-of-the-way flanking route,
03:01but it will allow for some of those cool player story moments
03:06where the low gravity is enabled
03:07and you're out there on the surface of the moon.
03:10So you'll have a lot of fun playing around with that.
03:13Now, I know that some of you are thinking,
03:15but Jeff, you just said we're going to have,
03:18you played around with low gravity on the whole map,
03:20and it was fun for a while but felt like a gimmick.
03:22You know, let us try it.
03:24Well, of course we're going to let you try it.
03:26So when we add the map, the new map,
03:31we're also going to be adding an arcade card for you
03:35for at least a week.
03:36We might keep it around longer than that.
03:38That will enable low gravity
03:40not only on the Horizon Lunar Colony map
03:43but on all of our maps.
03:45So you can play in low gravity all over the game
03:48and sort of experience that
03:49and form your own thoughts on what you think is awesome
03:53and maybe what you think is kind of ridiculously broken yet fun
03:57at the same time.
03:58We will also be adding gravity options
04:02to the custom game system as well.
04:04So you can use the custom game browser
04:07to find new and fun uses of altered gravity too.
04:12So hopefully all this will be a lot of fun for you.
04:15Now, I said there were kind of two elements
04:17to the Lunar Colony map that were interesting to us.
04:21One was obviously all the gameplay that I've been talking about,
04:23but the others are the story ramifications.
04:26So as some of you know,
04:28Winston grew up on the moon
04:31and Winston got his name from a famous scientist
04:34named Dr. Harold Winston.
04:36We hope to tell more of this backstory
04:38through the contextual storytelling of the map.
04:42The things that you run into, the areas that you'll explore.
04:45If you're the type who's paying attention to detail
04:49and you watched the animated short that we called Recall,
04:53you'll even be able to find Winston's room in this map
04:56when he was a little baby scientist growing up.
05:00You'll be able to find his space.
05:02You can read the computer screens
05:04to learn more about some of the other scientists.
05:07In some of the other spawn rooms,
05:09you'll see the spacesuits of the scientists
05:10and you'll pick up on some of their names
05:13and you'll even pick up on some names
05:17and some potential mysteries of some of Winston's peers,
05:22some of the other gorillas
05:24that were also part of the Horizon experiment.
05:28We hope to show all of this.
05:30The Attackers spawn room takes place in the exact spot
05:35with the giant telescope
05:37and the huge bay doors that open up
05:39and show planet Earth
05:41that you might have remembered from the animated short Recall.
05:44So we really tried to capture a lot of these moments
05:47and show more of the Overwatch universe
05:50which obviously didn't just take place on the moon,
05:54or on Earth, but took place on the moon as well.
05:57So we think it's going to be a fun map
06:00for many, many different reasons.
06:03We hope you have a blast trying it out.
06:06If there are gameplay issues
06:07and it's not working correctly,
06:09I hope we prove with Eichenwald
06:10that we will go back,
06:12we will adjust the map as needed.
06:14Obviously, when you as a tremendous player base
06:18get your hands on this map,
06:19you're going to show us things
06:20that we never were able to discover on our own.
06:23So we're anxiously awaiting
06:25not only watching what you guys do with the map,
06:27but playing the map along with you.
06:30And lastly, in closing,
06:32remember that in space
06:33everyone can hear Torbjorn scream.
