00:30Call of Duty will have a lot of new things to be sharing with you all, but today we will
00:34be talking with some of the team from Sledgehammer Games about Call of Duty World War II multiplayer and showing
00:40you some of the unique features in this year's game.
00:43And of course, we want to hear from you, so if you have a question, let us know in the
00:48comments section and we will possibly be answering them throughout the show.
00:51But now without further ado, let us kick off this episode of Making Call of Duty.
01:14All right, with me to kick off the show is Michael Condry, studio head of Sledgehammer Games.
01:18Hi, thanks for joining us, Michael.
01:19It's a pleasure to be here.
01:20Are you so excited to be here sharing multiplayer with the world right now?
01:24Couldn't be more excited.
01:25I mean, the studio has spent three years working on this, pouring our hearts and souls into it, and we
01:29get to bring it to fans.
01:30That's why we do what we do.
01:31So this is a really special conference for us.
01:33Right.
01:33So what's the approach you took in developing this year's multiplayer?
01:37Call of Duty returns to boots on the ground in World War II, and that for us was really special.
01:42Our opportunity to take it back where it hasn't been for, frankly, 10 years.
01:46And with an arsenal of iconic weapons and iconic map locations around the world and that gritty, intense World War
01:53II combat, this is a ton of fun.
01:56Right.
01:56So since we are going all the way back to World War II, what are the new and innovative things
02:01about this multiplayer that you guys have developed?
02:03Oh, man, we have so much to talk about today.
02:05Yeah.
02:05We really do.
02:06I mean, boots on the ground.
02:07Fans are going to love it.
02:08But we've got a ton of innovation as well.
02:10Now, divisions, we'll talk about in a little bit.
02:12We've replaced our create a class.
02:13I know there's a lot of questions on that.
02:15We have headquarters, the biggest innovation in multiplayer this year, and war, a ton of fun and a brand new
02:22way to play Call of Duty MP.
02:24We're going to show you some of that.
02:25Right.
02:25Now, you keep saying boots on the ground, but what does boots on the ground mean to you?
02:29Well, this is coming back to where the franchise is great.
02:32This is strategic gun-on-gun action with sight lines that you can identify and really work together in the
02:39classic Call of Duty way, but updated for the latest generation of consoles.
02:43So quite literally, boots on the ground.
02:46It is boots on the ground.
02:47Okay, so there's been so much excitement around this reveal.
02:51Fans are clamoring for more information.
02:53What do you hear them asking about the most?
02:55Fans have been amazing.
02:57They really have.
02:57I mean, we couldn't be more grateful for the outpouring of support.
03:00Last night was bonkers with the reveal.
03:03At the Sony presser.
03:04Yeah, that was amazing.
03:05And everybody in the studio is so proud and thankful for the fan reaction to that.
03:09And then there's some other things they want to talk about, some things we're going to talk about today.
03:13I think we're going to talk about, you know, the use of Nazi iconography in the game.
03:18That's a big deal.
03:19It's something we really wrestled with.
03:22You know, there's this responsibility to balance what really happened in an authentic way.
03:27But, you know, we need to be respectful for the victims in this very dark time in human history.
03:32I mean, this was a massive war, a global conflict.
03:35100 million people perished in this.
03:37So ultimately, we decided that, you know, Nazi symbols like the swastika had a place in our campaign to be
03:45historically accurate.
03:47You know, you see that in film and TV.
03:50But, you know, our multiplayer and zombies, this is a global community.
03:53This is a global community where the experience is visceral and intense.
03:57We didn't feel like it was appropriate there.
03:59I mean, it's a dark symbol, and we have to be really respectful and mindful of, you know, the customs
04:06regulations of different territories.
04:08And we wanted the whole community to be able to play together.
04:10So you'll see in the campaign in a very historical, accurate, and respectful way, but not in multiplayer or zombies.
04:16Well, and I've heard you talk about the game a lot in the sense that because you are basing it
04:21on true stories,
04:22it needs to be historically accurate for the generations that are coming up that don't have people who are still
04:27in that war.
04:28Yeah, you're absolutely right.
04:29I mean, for many of us, we think of Save it, Private Ryan as an icon of the war.
04:35And that was 20 years ago, right?
04:37Yeah.
04:38Ten years ago since Call of Duty has been there.
04:39That's insane. That makes me feel so old.
04:40I know.
04:40And you think this might be the first real introduction to World War II for a whole new generation of
04:45gamers.
04:46Right.
04:46So there is a respect and a responsibility we take with that.
04:49It's really profound, and we're excited.
04:51And you'll see that in the campaign, and hopefully you'll feel that in multiplayer.
04:54Right.
04:55Well, let's talk a bit about the multiplayer trailer that was released last night at the Sony Presser.
04:59Fans think it looks incredible, but also they're asking, because at the beginning it does say actual in-game footage,
05:05but it looks so good that they're like, is it? Is it actual in-game footage?
05:09So what's the answer? What's happening here?
05:10What's the answer? It's such an awesome question to get when people have to ask, is it real?
05:14Because it is.
05:15We spent tens of thousands of hours with many hundreds of developers pouring into this.
05:20You're seeing it now. It looks gorgeous.
05:22It really is.
05:22We spent hundreds of hours capturing this trailer for fans, and it's all in software.
05:28I think the camera work, like right there, it's so, like following someone's feet, it's just, it looks so incredible.
05:32Yeah, it's brutal, it's visceral, it's gritty, it's World War II.
05:35And when fans get their hands on it here at the show or at the beta or in November in
05:40launch,
05:40everything you're seeing, you get to play.
05:42Please tell me we get our hands on that flamethrower.
05:44You do.
05:45Yes!
05:46And it is, it's powerful.
05:48God, that looks so cool.
05:49And also, right at the end of this trailer, we get to see some vehicles.
05:53We do.
05:53Can you tell us about the tanks?
05:55I can.
05:56Yeah, that's another question that people have a lot on their minds, is how are we incorporating vehicles?
06:01Now, Call of Duty traditionally has had controllable scorestreaks, and we do as well.
06:06You saw that in this piece with the P-47 Fighter Strike.
06:09But what you're seeing right now here is an exclusive clip of our War Mode.
06:13And we're going to talk with the lead designer of War Mode in a little bit.
06:15The tank, you can jump up on it, get on the 50 cal.
06:19You can escort it.
06:20That is exclusive to the War Mode.
06:22Wonderful.
06:22God, it looks, I can't take my eyes off of it.
06:24It looks so good.
06:25Thank you so much.
06:25Everyone at home, stick around, because just coming up next, we are going to talk about headquarters and divisions.
06:30Thank you, Michael.
06:30Thank you.
06:32Thank you.
06:32Thank you.
06:35Thank you.
06:48Thank you.
07:09Thank you, everyone.
07:09We are back.
07:10We are live.
07:11And with us now is Greg Reisdorf, multiplayer designer of Sledgehammer Games.
07:15And we are going to start talking about headquarters.
07:17So if you guys have any questions about headquarters, get them in now so we can ask them.
07:21Greg, hi.
07:22Hi.
07:22Welcome.
07:23What is it like working on a Call of Duty game and then coming to an event like this to
07:26reveal it to everyone?
07:28It is so exciting and very stressful at the same time.
07:32It's great to be able to show it to fans, finally.
07:34We've been sitting on it for two and a half years, and it's just really exciting to be here.
07:38Right.
07:38Do you have any cool stories yet?
07:40I know E3 technically starts in like an hour or something like that, but we've all been here this whole
07:45weekend.
07:46There's already been all the pressers.
07:47What's the coolest thing you've seen so far?
07:48Yeah, they're loving the game.
07:49They're playing it.
07:50It's awesome to see people just picking it up.
07:52And just that return to boots on the ground is just so powerful.
07:57I feel like boots on the ground needs to be the tagline.
08:00Like Call of Duty, World War II, boots on the ground.
08:02It just keeps going.
08:04Okay.
08:05Let's talk about headquarters because it's this new feature in Call of Duty.
08:08What is the idea behind it?
08:10Yeah.
08:10New feature.
08:11It's big.
08:12It's the biggest innovation on multiplayer this year.
08:14This is a 48-person living experience.
08:17And it's really an evolution of what we worked on with Advanced Warfare.
08:20It started six years ago.
08:22We really wanted to bring your soldier to life.
08:24And we had that with your character, your Call of Duty character for the first time.
08:27You saw that in the virtual lobby.
08:29Now we're taking you into a space.
08:31This is an off-the-front-lines experience where you can compete, be social, show off, and engage in new
08:38ways.
08:38It's really special.
08:40So what inspired you guys to bring this feature into the game?
08:43Well, one of the things was the virtual lobby from AW.
08:46And really looking at that, we loved that idea and that aspect of the game.
08:49And we wanted to just bring it to the next level and have that idea of socializing in there as
08:54well.
08:55And really, that's where we set off from.
08:58So what are the interactions you can have in headquarters?
09:00So you can do a ton of things.
09:02You can commend other players, which is just, hey, you're doing a great job.
09:07There's shootouts that you can challenge other players to.
09:10Shootouts?
09:10Can you duel?
09:12You can duel in a 1v1 pit.
09:14There's actually, you can go and queue up for a 1v1 pit.
09:17And you can sit in there and see how long you can survive in there.
09:19Yeah.
09:20Yeah, there's just so many things.
09:22Okay, sweet.
09:22So we actually have a live question for you guys.
09:25Taylor Sederhoyt, I hope I just said your last name correctly,
09:28asks, what is headquarters used for?
09:31It's used for all your socializing.
09:34You can go here and party up.
09:35You can compete.
09:36Like Michael was saying, you can go into the 1v1 pit.
09:39All these cool things.
09:40It's also right available at your fingertips.
09:42So when you go into matchmaking and when you matchmake,
09:45you can actually pop back into the hub, into the live lobby,
09:48into the, if we've had so many names for it over the development, headquarters,
09:53where you can actually go back into headquarters
09:55and run around in this space and socialize while you're still in that queue.
09:59And then you're just going to pop right into your match.
10:01Nice.
10:01So what inspired the design of the space?
10:03The design of the space is all about D-Day plus three was our kind of go-to name for
10:08it.
10:08This is after the successful invasion of Normandy.
10:12The allies used the beachhead to bring in troops
10:14and to bring in supplies as the staging area to go off to the front.
10:18And so that's what we looked at and said, hey, this would be a great staging area
10:22for our players to go between matches when they first boot up the game,
10:26when they're about to leave the game.
10:27All those areas where you just kind of want to unwind and hang out and have a good time,
10:31like that's what the headquarters is for.
10:33Nice.
10:34Okay, we're going to take one more live one.
10:35Rafael Ramirez asks, how many people in headquarters?
10:38There's 48.
10:4048.
10:40Yep, you and 47 others can go.
10:43You and 47 others.
10:45That sounds like the worst frat house ever, but the best multiplayer ever.
10:50Wait, I'm going to ask one more quick one because this is a good one.
10:52Jack Sekhung, sure, asks, will headquarters be the multiplayer main menu?
10:59It's pretty much the multiplayer main menu.
11:02Yeah.
11:02In that sense.
11:03So on boot up, you're there.
11:04You're in the headquarters.
11:05You're running around, and if you want, you just hit the Options button on your PS4,
11:09and you jump right into your matchmaking and your virtual lobby experience from there.
11:14Awesome.
11:15Okay, well, let's move on to Divisions because that's new for this game, too.
11:18So if you guys have any questions about Divisions, throw them in now.
11:21But tell us about Divisions.
11:22How do they differ from one another now?
11:24One of the things we really love about the three-year development is it gives you a chance
11:27to look at all parts of the multiplayer experience.
11:30And we took a look at Create a Class, and we really wanted to bring something new.
11:34And so Divisions replaces Create a Class.
11:36And I know there's a lot of questions about that, so people are going to see it at E3.
11:39It, for us, really embodies the fantasy of enlisting in World War II.
11:44So this is where you'll begin your experience in the headquarters,
11:47and you'll enlist into one of five iconic Divisions,
11:50and those Divisions will really set you out to differentiate your play style,
11:54your look, and really how you approach gameplay.
11:56Nice.
11:57Okay, we're going to go straight to a live question for this one.
12:00Damon George asks,
12:01are we going to have to use the weapons and perks of a Division,
12:04or are we going to be able to manipulate classes?
12:08That's a great question because you are going to be able to manipulate classes,
12:11and perks are gone.
12:12So we have Division Training,
12:15which is going to really focus on your play style,
12:19and that is going to then be augmented with your Basic Training.
12:23And your Basic Training is going to add that flexibility,
12:25so you can go play how you want to play in the game.
12:27Off of that, you're going to have your primary weapon,
12:30which has your attachments,
12:31and your secondary and equipment that you can choose.
12:34All right, so if you're someone like me,
12:35who just like Leroy Jenkins himself into a situation,
12:38there's a...
12:39I can manipulate my character to do that?
12:41Yeah.
12:42Great.
12:42All right, good.
12:44Pete, oops, sorry.
12:44Pete Perez asks,
12:46will we be able to customize our characters,
12:48which I think we just answered, yeah?
12:51There's a lot of that going on.
12:52Yeah, there certainly is,
12:53and you know, that's really the evolution of Headquarters.
12:55Like, your character progression,
12:57the things you do to be rewarded and really show off,
13:00now with 48 players as that staging ground,
13:03that customization really shows off there.
13:06Nice.
13:07So what type of loadouts will you be able to create?
13:10All kinds of loadouts.
13:11So you have the classic run and gun,
13:12which is going to be your airborne division.
13:14You have your armored division,
13:16which is all about taking points and that aggressive play style with explosives.
13:20You're able to take the mountain division,
13:22which is the one-shot-one-kill division.
13:24Essentially, you're going to...
13:25I'll be terrible at that division.
13:26I'll tell you that right now.
13:27It is difficult, but it's a lot of fun if you can get in there and master that skill.
13:32There's the expeditionary division,
13:34which is all about shotguns and really being immune
13:37and to be able to take these points.
13:40Right.
13:40What are we looking at right now?
13:42Is this a specific division?
13:43This would be the armored division.
13:45So within the armored division, your division weapon skill,
13:48so he's running this LMG.
13:51Well, not anymore, but the LMG,
13:52you can now mount it on any surface
13:53and really just lock down points and hold points down.
13:57With the rifle division, infantryman division,
14:00which he's in right now, you have the bayonet charge.
14:02And all these divisions can be...
14:04Oh, there it was right there.
14:05All these divisions have progression.
14:07And so you're leveling these division skills up.
14:10You're leveling your division training up as well.
14:14Great.
14:14Logan Perry asks,
14:16are divisions unlocked by ranking up
14:18or all of them are unlocked from the beginning?
14:21So there's still a lot of stuff around progression being worked out.
14:25We're still very early in development.
14:27Got it.
14:27So there's a lot coming.
14:28You'll be able to see more beta.
14:30Be great.
14:31Nice.
14:31It sounds like you guys can, like, vote on what you want.
14:34They're still trying to figure that out.
14:36Ooh, here we go.
14:37Shirley asks, will there be female characters?
14:40There will absolutely be female characters.
14:42Yeah.
14:42We talk about, you know,
14:44your multiplayer career is about you going into battle.
14:47So we show diversity in the characters,
14:49both on the Allied and Axis side, both factions as you play.
14:53Multinational characters to choose from.
14:56Plenty of gender diversity.
14:57It's important to the game.
14:58It's important to what happened in the war.
15:00It's important to us as a studio.
15:01Yeah.
15:02I like playing as a lady now and then.
15:05Okay.
15:06Dalton Drake Smith asks,
15:08what vehicles will you be able to take control of in MP?
15:11Did we answer that in the last one?
15:13A little bit.
15:13You kind of get the tank?
15:14You kind of.
15:15There's a lot of score streaks that are controllable within the game.
15:18So we do have the fighter strike,
15:19which is one that's available here at E3 where you can get into it
15:22and you're actually doing strafing runs on the ground.
15:24So it's pretty cool.
15:25You can see it in the trailer.
15:26I want to do that.
15:27Can I do that when we go to the floor?
15:29You can.
15:30Yes.
15:31Do I have an in?
15:35Angel Santiago asks,
15:36are you going to be able to switch divisions?
15:38And if so, how easily?
15:40Very easily.
15:41Oh, great.
15:41So it's one of the big things about being in division.
15:44We want you to be able to enlist in it
15:46and feel the historical essence of it.
15:50But at the same time, we don't want it to restrict gameplay.
15:53And we want you to be able to get in there,
15:55switch your division when you want,
15:56and go and play how you want to play.
15:58Great.
15:58Oh, this kind of ties into that.
16:00Mike Tannis asks,
16:02will we be able to slide or dive or nothing at all?
16:05Lol.
16:07He does laugh out loud at the end of that.
16:10So we do have diving within the game.
16:13There's no slide.
16:15So we looked at both of them,
16:17and we really liked the dive mechanic.
16:19And we felt that fit our game better.
16:21We felt it fit boots on the ground better.
16:24And that's what we went with.
16:25Nice.
16:26Awesome.
16:26Well, Greg, thank you so much for joining us.
16:28Thank you.
16:29Guys, up next, we're going to be talking about War Mode,
16:31which I know a lot of you are excited about.
16:33So get your questions in for that.
17:04We'll be right back.
17:10Welcome back, guys.
17:11We are live, and with me now is Sean Soucy,
17:13multiplayer designer from Sledgehammer Games.
17:15And we're going to talk about maps and War Modes,
17:17so get those questions in now
17:18so I can read them off my swanky little iPad right here.
17:21Hi, Sean.
17:22Welcome.
17:22Hi, how are you?
17:22Good to be here.
17:23Thanks.
17:23So tell us what it's like
17:24to be one of the lead designers on a Call of Duty game.
17:26Oh, it's awesome.
17:28I mean, it's a, you know,
17:28to be a part of something like this
17:30is just a huge opportunity.
17:31I mean, especially multiplayer.
17:33Yeah, multiplayer.
17:34I mean, it's awesome.
17:35I'm a huge multiplayer gamer.
17:37I love multiplayer games.
17:38I play tons of Call of Duty
17:40and all the other ones out there.
17:41You'll get tired of it working on it?
17:43Oh, no.
17:43No, I go home and play more at home.
17:45That's awesome.
17:47It's got to be a lot of pressure, though,
17:48like maintaining the honor of multiplayer.
17:51It is.
17:51I mean, you know,
17:52Call of Duty's got such a history behind it,
17:54and we care so much about the fans
17:56and we just want to make sure
17:57that everything that we do
17:59is great for them.
18:00So there is pressure for sure.
18:03It's fun and, yeah,
18:04it's awesome.
18:05It's great.
18:06Nice.
18:06Okay, so tell us about the maps in the game.
18:08What are they like?
18:09So the maps,
18:10you know,
18:10one of our big goals with the maps
18:12was to put players
18:14in these iconic World War II locations.
18:18Are we looking at one of them right now?
18:19Yeah, so this is a flyover of Pointe-to-Hawk.
18:22It's very Game of Thrones-y.
18:23I like it.
18:25So, yeah, I mean,
18:26this is a perfect example.
18:27This was part of the Allied invasion of Normandy.
18:30It's a location.
18:31If you pop that into Google,
18:32you can find out what happened there,
18:34and we're kind of putting players
18:35into that environment
18:36and, you know,
18:37letting them duke it out in there.
18:38And so, yeah,
18:39we wanted to, you know,
18:40just bring as much history as we could
18:43in multiplayer.
18:44So we do that with the settings
18:45and make sure that the map environments are varied.
18:47This is the trench section in Pointe-to-Hawk,
18:50so trenches and bunkers,
18:51getting that really kind of iconic,
18:54prototypical World War II kind of environment.
18:56So that was really important to us
18:57and just provide a variety of gameplay experiences
18:59for players as well.
19:00How has the design of these maps evolved
19:02since the previous Call of Duties you've made?
19:06So one thing that was really important for us
19:09was to just really push the boundaries of
19:12and the range of play style opportunities.
19:15You know, going back to boots on the ground
19:17gave us some opportunities
19:18to kind of control gameplay a little bit more
19:20in ways that, you know,
19:22is refreshing and nice for us.
19:26So, you know,
19:27wanted to make sure that as, you know,
19:28you can see you're going on the cliff side here
19:30on Pointe-to-Hawk.
19:31This is kind of an area
19:32where a little bit longer range comes into play.
19:34You've got the trench section
19:35where you get some really up-close,
19:37super-fast, intense gameplay going on.
19:38So really wanted to make sure
19:39that we push those play styles.
19:41Oh, that was such a cool camera move right there.
19:42Yeah, it's cool. That's awesome.
19:44That was sweet.
19:44I was glad I was looking right at that.
19:46One of the things we're trying to do with maps
19:47is really encourage division play style, right?
19:51Yeah.
19:51Definitely.
19:51And what you'll see throughout all the maps,
19:53and we're going to show another one here,
19:54I think, that we're taking D3,
19:57Ardennes, is really encouraging.
19:59Here it is here.
19:59This was a really iconic location
20:02in World War II along the Siegfried Line.
20:05And this battle happened
20:07as part of the Battle of the Bulge.
20:08So you can also find out a lot of history on this.
20:11But each of our maps really tries to encourage,
20:13as Sean said, the different play styles.
20:16And with that, you'll be really encouraged
20:18to level up each of your divisions
20:19and understand when to take them in
20:21based off your map and your mode.
20:22Absolutely, yeah.
20:23I mean, the locations in the maps are varied.
20:26So, you know, your mountain division
20:28that's kind of more focused on longer range
20:29kind of sniper gameplay,
20:32that, you know, there's areas in the maps
20:33where that division can kind of live and thrive
20:36and, you know, closer up gameplay
20:38with the expeditionary division,
20:40which is kind of more close range shotguns
20:42and things like that.
20:43You know, there's areas where each of those
20:45has their strengths and weaknesses,
20:46and you can kind of mix it up as you go along.
20:48Nice.
20:48Okay, we have some live questions.
20:50Rick Crow asks,
20:52will the maps be bigger or the same tight maps?
20:56So we shot for range there as well.
20:58So you're going to have some smaller,
21:00really fast-paced maps,
21:01and you're going to also have some
21:02that we kind of open up a little bit.
21:04And again, it's varying that gameplay style.
21:06So we give players opportunity
21:08to have different experiences.
21:10Since you base them all on historical locations,
21:12did you pick specific locations
21:13that would fit those criteria?
21:15We did, yeah.
21:16Yeah, so history obviously is super important to us.
21:18We want to make sure that we reflect the history
21:20behind World War II and multiplayer gameplay.
21:22So, you know, we want to make sure
21:23that players feel like they're a part of that.
21:27And, yeah, definitely choosing locations
21:29that will kind of focus more or less
21:32on certain play styles.
21:33I think for us, you know,
21:35trying to capture the authenticity of the game,
21:38the team went to these locations.
21:40So we, with our military historian, Marty Morgan,
21:42went to Normandy.
21:43We went to Gibraltar.
21:45We've sat in Ardennes Forest
21:46in the middle of 10-degree snow
21:48to try and bring these to life
21:49in a really respectful way.
21:50Wow.
21:51That's a great job, Perk.
21:53That's really cool.
21:54Elliot Dunn asks,
21:55can we have some names of multiplayer maps
21:58and what they contain?
21:59Please shout me out.
22:00I just did Elliot Dunn.
22:01What's up?
22:03What's your favorite map, Sean?
22:04My favorite map?
22:06Oh, man, that's a hard one.
22:08Definitely a fan of Point to Hawk.
22:10Also, you know, again,
22:12it's that, you know,
22:13if you ask people what they want
22:14out of a World War II
22:16Call of Duty multiplayer map,
22:19the D-Day scenario,
22:21the trenches, the bunkers, all that stuff.
22:23So I'm a fan of that map.
22:24It's got, you know, like I said,
22:25the trenches in the middle are super intense,
22:27super fun to play in.
22:29That's definitely up there.
22:30on my favorites, for sure.
22:32Are there any you haven't announced yet?
22:34There are a couple you saw in the trailer
22:35that I don't think we've specifically called out.
22:37There's the USS Texas, the battleship map.
22:39That is a ton of fun.
22:41I keep saying ton of fun, don't I?
22:42It's fine.
22:43It's a ton of fun.
22:43Everyone's going to make fun of me.
22:44It's a ton of fun.
22:45The shovel scene,
22:46that brutal shovel slash scene,
22:48that's great.
22:49That happens in Gibraltar.
22:50That's a really great map as well.
22:51Yep.
22:52Mason Kelly asks,
22:53will we be parachuting into the maps?
22:55It was in the trailer,
22:56and I'm curious.
22:59Okay, so the parachuting into the maps,
23:01there's a scorestreak
23:03that's in the game of E3
23:04called paratroopers.
23:05You call in paratroopers,
23:07they deploy into the battle.
23:08It's a really cool,
23:09just super World War II
23:11kind of thing to see.
23:13Yeah, it's cool stuff.
23:14Sweet, so you can.
23:15You will be,
23:15if you are that specific.
23:17That's a scorestreak.
23:18Oh, that's a scorestreak.
23:19Got it, got it, got it.
23:20Okay, sweet.
23:22Okay, I think we've done it on maps.
23:23I want to transition into war mode.
23:25War mode.
23:25I think everyone wants
23:27to transition into war mode.
23:28This sounds awesome.
23:29What can you tell us about war mode?
23:30Yeah, war mode is something
23:32that's really special
23:32to everybody working on it.
23:34We've had three years
23:35to sort of capture the spirit
23:37of a true Axis versus Allied battle.
23:41I remember when Sean
23:42first pitched this idea,
23:43we were calling it Big War
23:43because we wanted to really
23:45bring together this concept
23:47of working as a team.
23:48Right.
23:48And Call of Duty multiplayer
23:49is fantastic.
23:50We all love it.
23:51It's a bit of a lone wolf experience.
23:53But in war mode,
23:54you really are working strategically
23:57against these objectives.
23:58And these objectives are grounded
23:59in World War II history,
24:01so they're relatable.
24:02Defend the bridge,
24:03escort the tank,
24:05take out the 88.
24:05so war is on the floor
24:08at E3 for the first time.
24:10You're seeing a lot of it
24:10in the trailer.
24:11It's pretty special.
24:13And didn't you tell me earlier
24:14that it actually has
24:15a loose storyline as well,
24:17which you don't get
24:17out of multiplayer
24:18for the most part?
24:19Yeah, that's definitely
24:20one of the big things
24:21with war is that
24:22we wanted players
24:22to really feel like
24:24not only are they fighting
24:26in the iconic locations
24:27of World War II,
24:28but they're actually partaking
24:29in an actual World War II battle.
24:30So there is a kind of
24:31a loose narrative thread
24:32that kind of ties things
24:33together in the map,
24:34and there's an overall
24:35mission objective
24:36that you're trying to do,
24:37and each step along the way
24:38is kind of progress
24:38towards that.
24:39Wonderful.
24:40You can see the guys
24:40jumping off the truck
24:41deploying into the battle.
24:42So that's your whole team
24:42right there.
24:43Yep, that's your team.
24:44That's great.
24:44So, yeah.
24:45So why are players
24:46going to love War Mode?
24:47I mean, it's a brand new experience.
24:49It's like nothing
24:50that there's been
24:51in Call of Duty multiplayer before.
24:52There's never been
24:53this kind of narrative-driven,
24:55objective-based,
24:56attacker-defender gameplay.
24:58You can see right now
24:58they're fighting over the bridge,
24:59so the attacking side here
25:01is trying to build the bridge
25:03to allow their armor
25:05across the bridge,
25:06and then the Axis side
25:08is kind of hunkering down
25:10and defending against that,
25:11and they're putting up
25:12MG nests
25:13and all those kind of things.
25:14So it really is
25:15a brand new type
25:16of gameplay experience,
25:17and I think players
25:18are going to love it.
25:19Awesome.
25:19Okay, Taylor White asks,
25:21So are there going to be
25:22Core Matches
25:23or just War Mode,
25:24and are we going to see
25:26Team Deathmatch,
25:27Domination,
25:28or Kill Confirmed Core types?
25:30So on the floor,
25:31we have Team Deathmatch
25:32on Pointe du Hoc.
25:33People will be playing that today.
25:34They'll also be playing
25:36Domination on Ardennes,
25:37the map we showed you earlier.
25:38So we will have a variety
25:40of beloved game modes,
25:42and War Mode is part of that
25:44as the new addition.
25:45Great.
25:48Dylan Halder asks,
25:49Will we get specific objectives
25:51in War Mode?
25:52Sounds like, yeah.
25:53Yeah, definitely.
25:54I mean, again,
25:55we wanted players
25:56doing the things
25:57that soldiers did
25:58in World War II, right?
25:59So you're capturing territory,
26:01you're building bridges,
26:03you're escorting
26:03armored divisions,
26:04you're destroying
26:06artillery pieces.
26:08So the war maps
26:09are built out
26:11of those pieces,
26:12and again,
26:13there's a mission, right?
26:14You've got a primary goal
26:16that you're trying
26:16to accomplish
26:16with each of these maps.
26:18Awesome.
26:18Okay, Jared Hornfeck,
26:20who according to his
26:22icon picture,
26:22looks like he just
26:23got married,
26:23so congratulations.
26:25How many people
26:26can play War Mode
26:27at one time?
26:28So War Mode
26:29is 6v6,
26:31like the core modes.
26:326v6!
26:336v6.
26:34Oh, I was like,
26:35what?
26:35That's insane!
26:37Well, that's where
26:37we started, actually,
26:38three years ago.
26:38I was like,
26:38that's such a random number, too.
26:40Well, the thing about War
26:41is it fits in
26:42the full multiplayer ecosystem.
26:44So your 6v6 experience,
26:46your progression,
26:47your divisions,
26:48the way that you rank up
26:51will extend both
26:52from Team Deathmatch
26:53to Domination
26:54to Hardpoint
26:55to War.
26:56We wanted players
26:56also to be able
26:57to kind of carry on
26:58with their party, right?
26:59You've got five
27:00of your friends
27:00that you partied up
27:02for TDM or DOM
27:04or whatever game
27:04when you're playing.
27:05We wanted that same group
27:06to be able to just drop
27:07over into War
27:07and just kind of have
27:08that seamless transition.
27:09And getting five
27:09of your friends together
27:10is a lot easier
27:11than 65 of your friends.
27:13Exactly.
27:13I was like,
27:14what are you talking about?
27:15Who's got 65 friends?
27:16I know, exactly.
27:18Elliot Young asks,
27:19will War Mode
27:20just feature certain maps
27:21or all the maps?
27:23So War Mode,
27:23and that's one of the things
27:25that excites me
27:26about War Mode 2
27:27is that it really
27:28is a tailor-built experience.
27:31So I don't even really
27:32like to call it a mode
27:33because it's more than a mode.
27:34It's not something
27:35that drops into every map.
27:37It's these maps are built
27:38to...
27:38Is it a way of life, Sean?
27:39Yes.
27:40One could call it a way
27:41of life.
27:42It's been known
27:43around the studio
27:43as a way of life
27:44because it's big
27:45and it's custom maps
27:46built just for that experience.
27:48Nice.
27:49I do have one more question,
27:50although I feel like
27:50maybe we just answered this.
27:52Edward Palomarez Jr.
27:53asks,
27:54how many players
27:54are in each mode?
27:55But that's 6v6.
27:57Yes, right.
27:57So 12 players, yeah.
27:58Yes.
27:58Does it have to be?
28:00No, I mean,
28:01we support a range
28:01of players, but...
28:02Great.
28:03Yeah.
28:03So if you only have four friends,
28:04you can still play.
28:05Absolutely.
28:07Awesome.
28:07Okay, well,
28:08thank you guys for joining us.
28:09Is there anything else
28:09you want to say
28:10to our fans at home?
28:11Oh, look,
28:12on behalf of everybody
28:12at Sledgehammer Games,
28:13I mean,
28:14the studio has poured
28:15their hearts and souls
28:16into this.
28:17It's not just the studio.
28:18I mean,
28:18I know they're tuned in,
28:19but it's the extended families,
28:20all the people that support us
28:21as we bring this game
28:22that I know we're watching too.
28:23So thank you for that.
28:26We wanted to give
28:26an exclusive sneak look
28:28at one of the headquarters features
28:30that nobody's seen yet before.
28:32So I don't know.
28:32Can I show that?
28:33Can we show that?
28:33Yeah, please.
28:34What?
28:34I'm all about exclusives.
28:36Let's show this.
28:36is the virtual firing range,
28:39as you know it from AW.
28:41I had no idea
28:42we had an exclusive.
28:44How exciting.
28:44I know, how cool.
28:45Look at the grand
28:45and the bayonet,
28:46and now it's competitive.
28:49Oh, wow.
28:50Now it's social.
28:51You can challenge for shootouts,
28:53as Greg mentioned earlier,
28:54just the beginning
28:55of what you're going to be able
28:56to bring to life
28:56in your headquarters experience.
28:57That was really cool.
28:59Thank you, guys.
29:00That's awesome.
29:01Thank you all at home
29:03for the great questions
29:04about the game.

29:06to have such a passionate community
29:07as you guys.
29:08You're awesome.
29:09And we can't wait to show you more
29:10in the next few months.

29:12from Sledgehammer Games
29:13for taking the time
29:13to speak with us.
29:14I hope you survive your E3.
29:16And there's still a lot more
29:18to come at E3,
29:18so stay tuned.
29:19I'm actually going to go
29:20down to the floor
29:21and talk to fans
29:22who have just gotten their hands
29:23on the multiplayer
29:23and see what they think about it.
29:25And as you guys probably heard
29:26last night,
29:27the beta for Call of Duty World War II
29:29will be coming to PlayStation 4

29:38hands-on multiplayer, everyone.
29:40Stay tuned for more episodes
