00:07You're here at Supermassive Games.
00:09We're about to do a playthrough of Hidden Agenda
00:12which is part of the PlayLink
00:14range of games. I'm Will Doyle
00:16I'm the game director on the project
00:17And I'm Jess Harris, the senior producer
00:19And so in Hidden Agenda we've got
00:21two modes, story mode
00:23and competitive mode. We have up to six players
00:27How well
00:28do you know your friends?
00:29Choose wisely. Life
00:31and death decisions will be in their
00:33hands. So this is
00:35what we call trust
00:38questions. So the game challenges
00:40you at different points to
00:42identify who among your friends
00:44is the coolest under pressure
00:46and the quickest thinking
00:48There's a whole lot of different questions as we go
00:50and then as you'll see
00:51later in the game
00:53the player we choose
00:55is given an executive decision
00:57on one of the key choices in the game
01:00So we'll see who's come out here
01:03And it's Monica
01:05So in story mode
01:07we're just playing the game for kicks really
01:09We wanted to get
01:11an experience that is a bit like
01:13a sort of movie night
01:15with a bunch of friends
01:16You're just playing through the story
01:18enjoying it for its own sake
01:21It's a big branching narrative
01:24so it can go in all sorts of different
01:25directions
01:27which are controlled by choices
01:29So we need to
01:31make a vote for each of these choices
01:33and the majority decision decides
01:35We really want to
01:37seize control
01:38We can use a takeover
01:40Tap the takeover button during a choice
01:41to take control
01:42So to make the decisions
01:44you just simply swipe on your phone
01:47We wanted to make the game
01:49as easy to control
01:50for anyone really
01:52so everybody knows how to use a phone
01:54and we spend a lot of time
01:56just making sure that the
01:58interactions are as simple as possible
02:00So in this, this is a search
02:03so we have to try and find clues in the world
02:06and we do that
02:07just by moving our pointers around
02:09and looking for the clues
02:11that we can see at the top of the screen
02:17It's really him
02:18On the way
02:23So this is the star of our show
02:24Becky Marnie
02:25At this stage, she's just a beat cop
02:27As the story progresses though
02:29she becomes a detective in homicide department
02:32This is her trying to take down
02:35the trapper
02:36and there's this serial killer
02:37that's been killing people across the city
02:40and now just a rookie cop
02:42she's got a lead on him
02:44and they've found him in this house
02:50So as we play through the game
02:52every choice will lead to
02:54a different branch
02:55Sometimes those branches come back together
02:58Sometimes they spiral out
03:00into different directions
03:02We have a thing we call the ripple effect
03:04which is each choice you make
03:06is sort of like dropping a stone in a pond
03:08ripples spread out
03:10create different outcomes
03:12and some choices are
03:14you know, create life and death decisions
03:17that's what we're about to see here
03:21Help!
03:28Okay, this decision is down to the friend
03:31you chose as coolest under pressure
03:55So that's a fairly momentous decision
03:57you had to make there
03:58and that itself has a
04:00a big effect
04:01later on in the game
04:03how you deal with that dilemma
04:05that dilemma though is
04:06in that one scene
04:09only one outcome
04:11there's other routes we can take
04:12that mean we see something completely different
04:15Wouldn't have seen that dilemma at all
04:17and likewise with the
04:19shooting
04:19shooting is about
04:20a group decision again
04:22so it's
04:23it's combat
04:24it's up to the entire group
04:25to say yes you know what
04:25we're going to pull the trigger on this guy
04:27and if you don't want to pull the trigger
04:28then you'll go down a different branch
04:30because you won't have shot
04:31and something else will play out entirely
04:34So this is now competitive mode
04:37so the difference with competitive mode
04:39is that
04:40we're all against each other
04:42in this
04:42trying to score as many points as we can
04:44and that's handled by
04:46hidden agendas
04:47so as we play through the game
04:49we will receive
04:50one of us will receive
04:51a secret objective
04:53their goal is to make that objective come true
04:55our goal is to
04:56identify them
04:57if we can identify them
04:58we'll score points
04:59if they make their agenda come true
05:01they'll score points too
05:03You've got five minutes
05:04Miss Graves
05:06I did not kill anybody
05:10So Supermassive's
05:12perhaps best known game
05:14a couple of years ago
05:14was Until Dawn
05:15which was a huge hit
05:17it was a horror game
05:18kind of interactive drama
05:21very cinematic
05:22and high production values
05:24and all the things
05:25that you know about it already
05:25and when
05:27when Sony started talking to us
05:29about the PlayLink initiative
05:31it felt like a fairly
05:32great fit
05:33for the stuff
05:34that we were wanting to do anyway
05:36which was
05:36which was more of a
05:37sort of a social
05:39social interactive fiction
05:40style thing
05:41so we've been kind of looking at
05:42slightly shorter games
05:44and
05:44this notion of a movie night
05:46that people can play together
05:47and
05:48kind of shouting at each other
05:49and trying to convince each other
05:51which way to go
05:51Garrick using his card there
05:53is showing his hand
05:55but
05:56you can never be completely sure
05:57because
05:57it's
05:58you know
05:58it's also
06:00he can try and
06:01put the blame
06:02onto himself
06:03even if he hasn't got it
06:12Hey!
06:13What's going on?
06:20we tried to get something where
06:22the
06:24scoring for this game
06:25is really really simple
06:26you know
06:26all the way through
06:28we wanted to create something
06:28that
06:29wouldn't have any barriers to entry
06:31for people
06:31that anybody could play it
06:32and
06:33yeah at the same time
06:34it's quite
06:35it's quite in depth
06:36the sort of
06:37the tactics you have
06:38with such a simple system
06:40because it's about
06:41the people in the room
06:42and it's about
06:43talking to each other
06:44and
06:45convincing each other
06:46of
06:47lies
06:47and half-truths
06:48Stay back
06:49You also see there
06:50one of the
06:52quick reaction moments
06:53we had
06:54where it's just
06:56we have to grab the pepper spray
07:00and
07:02whoever gets there first
07:03gets a take over
07:04Hey!
07:05Hey!
07:06Hey!
07:07Hey!
07:07Settle down
07:08and take it easy
07:11We've managed to kind of
07:12craft a story
07:13that
07:14can go in all sorts of
07:15different directions
07:15so there's a lot of just
07:16natural replayability in it
07:18whether you're just
07:18sitting around this story mode
07:20and want to see a different
07:21ending
07:21or in competitive mode
07:22just seeing where the hidden
07:23agendas take you
07:24and trying to beat one another
07:25you know that's it
07:26it is a competitive game
07:30That's Garrick
07:35So now
07:36we've identified
07:38who's got it
07:39or we think
07:39who's got it
07:40if we
07:41if we all think
07:42that it's Garrick
07:43our goal now
07:44is just to stop him
07:46so we can see
07:47how he behaves
07:47when the critical choices
07:49come up
07:50This is it guys
07:51let's resolve
07:53the hidden agenda
07:56All right
08:00Lana
08:01I'm sorry
08:02it's Thin Soup
08:03you're on your own here
08:05so go to the judge
08:06and see what he says
08:06Please Felicity
08:08I'll talk to the police
08:10about Adam Jones
08:10maybe they'll find something
08:12I don't know
08:12but that's all I can do
08:14Thank you
08:16Monica
08:18Unlucky
08:18You weren't identified
08:20but you couldn't
08:21complete your agenda
08:23So you know
08:24as we play
08:24through the game
08:26we get kind of
08:27more hidden agendas
08:28coming up
08:28in each time
08:29it's not always
08:30the same hidden agenda
08:31so we don't know
08:32always what the goal is going to be
08:33it'll be different
08:34all the time
08:35and it's kind of
08:36back-to-back hidden agendas
08:37all the way through the game
08:38So there you go
08:40Thanks for watching
08:41I hope you enjoyed it
08:42and keep an eye out
08:43for hidden agenda
08:44coming soon
08:51and if we play
08:53the game
08:53the game
08:53player is at the end
08:54the game
08:54which I don't know
08:55I will share
08:55you're not going to be
08:55that's a proper THAT's
08:55it's a good thing
08:55I do
08:56I should do
08:56you're not going
08:56because I'm not going
