00:00Imagine a country that has not lost a single interface border in over 600 years.
00:04Not to the Romans, not to the Mongols, the British or even the Soviet Union.
00:08While many nations in the Middle East have seen their borders redrawn and their governments
00:12fall, Iran stands like a castle that no one can seem to crash.
00:15In a world where superpowers like the US have intercede in Iraq, Libya and Syria, Iran remains
00:20the one unbeatable person.
00:22But why?
00:22Is it just luck or is there something hidden in the land itself?
00:25Today we are breaking down the three major reasons why invading Iran is a military nightmare.
00:30The first thing you need to understand about Iran is that it is a literal castle, but its
00:34walls were not built by people, they were built by Nis.
00:36To the south and west you have the sagwest mountains.
00:38These are not just hills, they are massive rough peaks that act as a joint wall against
00:43anyone coming from Iraq or the Persian Gulf.
00:45In the north, the Alborz Mountains guard the border near the Caspian Sea.
00:48To the east, smaller mountain rains wrap around the country like a ribbon, creating a difficult
00:52path for anyone coming from Pakistan or Afghanistan.
00:54And it is not just mountains where there are not peaks.
00:57There are deadly marshlands or two of the harshest deserts on earth, the Desh de Kavir and the
01:00Desh de Brut.
01:01These areas are so brutal that most of Iran's 90 million people live up in the mountains instead.
01:06For an invading army, this means terrible weather, narrow paths and a total nightmare for moving
01:10supplies.
01:11Iran has a secret weapon that does not even involve firing ashore, the Strait of Romney.
01:15This tiny stretch of water is the only way out for 20% of the world's oil and nearly all
01:20of Qatar's gas.
01:20While seven different countries share the northern side of the Gulf, Iran owns the entire northern
01:24coastlines.
01:25Because of the V-shape of the coast, Iran can easily monitor and shut down these interests.
01:29They have even warned that if they are attacked, they will close the Strait.
01:32If that happens, the global economy could lose $6 trillion almost instantly.
01:36It is like Iran is holding a key to the world's gas station.
01:39If you attack them, they might just lock the door for everyone.
01:42Even if an army managed to get past the mountains, they had faced a problem called strategic death.
01:46Iran is massive over 1.6 million square kilometers.
01:49Major cities like Tehran are not on the border.
01:51They are tucked deep inside that country.
01:53By the time an enemy army reach them, their supply lines will be straight thin and their
01:57soldiers will be exhausted.
01:58Finally, there are the people.
01:59Iran is mighty ethnic, meaning it is made up of Persian, Kurds, Azaris, and many other groups.
02:04While these groups sometimes have disagreements with the government, history shows that when
02:08a former attacks, they drop their defenses and unite.
02:10When Iraq invaded in 1980, they thought that the Iranian people would turn against their
02:14government.
02:15Instead, even those who were unhappy with the system joined the fight to protect their lives.
02:19After eight years of global war, Iraq did not gain a single inch of territory.
02:22So why is Iran so hard to conquer?
02:24It is a mix of natural mountain forests, a coastline that can cripple the world economy,
02:28and a massive land area that swallows invading armies whole.
02:31Whether you are looking at geography or history, one thing is clear.
02:34Hinching Iran is easy, but cutting out or staying there, that is almost impossible.
02:37What do you think is Iran's biggest defense?
02:39The mountains or the old?
