00:07I'm Tom Hegarty, I'm Director of Roll7
00:10I'm John Ribbins and I'm Creative Director at Roll7
00:13My name's Simon Bennett, I'm the Studio Director at Roll7
00:16So Laser League is the light speed, high octane contact sport of 2150
00:22The idea is to turn on laser beams that rotate and vaporise your opponents
00:27and you score points by vaporising everybody on the other team before your team vaporised
00:32You do that by hitting and activating laser nodes and they will activate in your colour
00:38If your opposing team gets the laser node before you, that activates in their colour
00:42You need to avoid their lasers and they need to avoid your lasers
00:45And on top of that there's different classes as well
00:48and they can interact with the lasers and the opponents differently
00:51So we've got three offensive classes, Blade, Smash and Shock
00:56Then we've got two defensive classes or medic classes with Thief and Ghost
01:03And then we've got one sort of mixed ability use which is Snipe
01:09Blade literally has a whopping great Blade attached to his arm
01:13And Blade has a dash attack and if you hit an opponent you slash them and kill them and they're
01:17eliminated
01:17Blade is balanced by a slightly longer cooldown and a slightly shorter dash but very deadly if you can get
01:23it right
01:24Smash has a massive kind of riot shield and he uses it to bash opponents
01:27And that will send them flying and tumbling across the pitch
01:30ideally into one of your lasers to eliminate them or to just knock them out of the game temporarily
01:35And obviously because he's got a dash he can use that as a speed boost as well
01:40So if your opponent's running to turn a laser on you can use that instead of offensively hitting someone
01:45You can also use it to dash in and grab a laser
01:47You've got Shock, Shock has an area of effect
01:50Once it's activated anyone within that area is stunned and dropped to the floor
01:56On arenas with like fast moving lasers you can stun an opponent and then while they're downed
02:01One of your lasers is going to sweep through and wipe them out
02:04But he can also use it as a deterrent
02:06If you're trying to revive one of your teammates you can activate your ability as you run in for the
02:10revive
02:10And other people can't get you because you're surrounded by electricity
02:13Thief is a defensive and offensive class in the same moulds
02:18You can actually steal the other team's lasers as long as you use your area of effect where the laser
02:24node spawns
02:24He has a very long recharge on his ability so you kind of need to stay out of danger for
02:29longer
02:30But Thief is incredibly powerful, you can turn the tables in a point
02:33There are also some deeper mechanics, you can play Thief offensively
02:36We've seen recently some testers actually playing it as an offensive class
02:40But I'm not going to tell you how you do that, you'll have to discover it for yourself
02:44You've got Ghost, Ghost is a Medic class
02:48So particularly good if you're in a 3v3 and a 4v4 and your teammates are down
02:53You can use your ability to actually go through opponent's lasers
02:57You've got a limited period of time in which you're essentially invulnerable
03:00But he can also use that kind of as like a safety net to reduce the risk
03:04So again like if he's running towards a laser and there's an opponent running as well
03:07He can activate his ability and even if the other person gets there first
03:10He won't be eliminated because he just passes through
03:13So Snipe is another offensive class
03:16But can also be really helped to control the map and control the game
03:19So essentially you drop a marker and then from there you draw a line
03:24If anyone crosses that line and you're quick enough you can teleport back to your marker
03:30And anyone on that line is eliminated
03:32So I could drop my marker at a really important laser or a really important power-up collection point
03:37And I can run away and do some other stuff and when that power-up or that node appears
03:40I can teleport back and grab it and not really worry about eliminating other people
03:43Or I could use it to defend something right
03:45If I don't want someone to collect a power-up
03:47I can drop my line and put this line as a sort of barrier between the power-up and the
03:52opposing team
03:53Each class also has modifiers that can kind of adapt and change the ability
03:58And again these are really important to balance your team
04:01To give you an example the shot character he has an area of effect attack
04:04And it stuns other players and knocks them down
04:08You can choose to play that in two different ways with the modifiers
04:11So one modifier allows you to have the ability on for longer
04:13Or I can play it using the stun modifier
04:16And the stun modifier means that the people I do take out
04:19They remain downed and on the floor for longer than they would with the other one
04:23So obviously I'm playing with a blade, the offensive character
04:26And I'm a shock, picking stun allows me to knock people down
04:29And give that blade player a much longer time to run up and take that player out
04:33Whereas maybe if I'm playing more of a medic class as shock
04:36I might want to extend so I can have my ability on for longer
04:39And be protected from attack for a longer time while I go and try and revive other players
04:43So within each map there is a set series of power-ups
04:46Which change up the play at any given moment
04:48There's a set of power-ups that will change the motion of the lasers
04:51So you've got like rewind and pause and speed up
04:54Which kind of do obvious things
04:55Like if you hit a pause and someone's in between a bunch of beams
04:57You can trap them in a certain spot
04:59And your offensive players can come in and take them out
05:00You don't always necessarily want to collect all the power-ups that are on the pitch
05:03So we have a power-up called Switch
05:05And so that one's quite an interesting one, right?
05:07Because if you're the winning team
05:08You don't want to collect that power-up
05:10Because it will turn all your lasers to the enemy team's colour
05:13And then kind of the last set affects the players directly
05:16So you've got power-ups that can recharge all your
05:18All of your team's abilities back to full
05:20And you've got power-ups that do the same thing to the other team
05:22And drain all of their abilities to zero
05:24So they've got to like recharge all their abilities again
05:26And then other stuff like giving everybody a shield like that
05:28Where you can revive all the dead players on your team
05:30And again part of the skill is for you as a player to understand and remember what power-ups are
05:35coming up
05:36And that may actually affect some of your play beforehand
05:39Laser League is played all over the world in these vast futuristic stadiums
05:44With like crazy crowds going absolutely mental
05:47And each stadium has a series of different maps which change up how you play the game
05:52You know some maps are focused around area control
05:54Some are much more twitchy, some are much more open
05:57And so lend themselves better to like offensive character classes and things like that
06:02So while it's not necessarily a different specific game mode
06:06The actual patterns and configurations of lasers that you'll get in each stadium are different
06:12And it really is these maps that you need to learn
06:14And each map will require a different class setup
06:18Or different class setups will enable you to play these maps differently
06:22So to become the ultimate Laser League player
06:24Initially you're going to need some pretty good twitch skills
06:27But ultimately you're going to need to understand the depth of the game
06:30And really delve into that team-based strategy
