00:08Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most badass and jaw-dropping
00:14battles in Invincible. Some of these fights end in character deaths and huge twists, so beware of
00:21spoilers ahead.
00:37Mark Grayson tests out his new powers in a suit that doesn't quite reflect his awesome potential.
00:43While he thwarts Titan, there's still room for improvement.
00:52After that trial run, Mark is ready to make a more official debut in a sleeker super suit.
00:59Mark has not only gotten a wardrobe upgrade, but he's become more confident in the field
01:04as he punches a villain through a building and down a street.
01:13The roboticized bow doesn't stand much of a chance against Mark. Invincible may come out
01:18of this fight unscathed and triumphant. Much like the title card though, his face is going
01:23to look a lot bloodier as the season progresses.
01:44As hardcore as the violence can be in this show, we occasionally get a fight that harkens back
01:49to the days when comic books were more inspiring. This fight feels closer to the golden and silver
01:55ages of comics, with an iconic landmark, an over-the-top villain, and less emphasis on
02:01blood. We even get to see some humorous banter between Doc Seismic and Atom Eve.
02:13At the same time, the sequence showcases some of the show's best animation, as Seismic shatters
02:19the ground below, nearly sending a family plummeting into a river of lava. Invincible not only rescues
02:26the family, but, being a noble hero, attempts to save Seismic as well. Seismic would rather
02:32go out in a blaze of glory though, than accept a hero's help.
02:4618. The Maulers Run Out Of Lives
02:49You want a real costume, right? One of the show's greatest strengths is how it can instantly
02:54change how we view a character. When Mark's half-brother Oliver gets his own super-suit,
02:59he seems like he just wants to do good. We learn more about his definition of heroism
03:04when the Mauler twins attack. While Invincible goes after their doomsday device, Oliver brutally
03:13tears through them with ease. He dispatches the first twin by flying right through him,
03:18and for a brief moment, it looks like it could've been an accident. Oliver might just not understand
03:23his own strength, but then he strides up to the surrendering Mauler, executing him without hesitation.
03:33What started out as typical superheroics became a shocking realization that Oliver calls himself
03:39Kid Omni-Man for a reason. 17. Not So Little
03:44The Maul, who you call an ugly. Never underestimate your opponent. It's a mistake that several potential recruits
03:50make while trying out for the new Guardians.
03:56Atom Eve might not be as muscular as her hulking opponent, but she easily wipes the floor with him.
04:02Shrinking Ray proves that size doesn't matter, while Black Samson shows you can save the day without powers.
04:10Shrinking Ray-Rex-Splode learns this lesson the hardest when he badmouths Monster Girl. Although both are
04:16already on the team, Rex doesn't understand how a seemingly little girl is qualified.
04:25Freeing the beast, Monster Girl gives Rex's body and ego a deserved beating. Even after Monster Girl
04:32demonstrates her strength, one hero can't believe it when Invincible punches a little girl.
04:46She's actually 24, so it's all good.
04:50Number 16. Cecil crosses the line. They deal with the devil. While the show's had plenty of betrayals,
04:57the fallout from this relationship was one for the books. Mark confronts Cecil over his shady use of
05:03super-villains and learns just how far the GDA director is willing to go for humanity.
05:18He unleashes a horde of super-strong Rihanna men and hits Mark with an implanted Sonic device.
05:25Things get desperate when Mark goes to the Guardians for help, and the conflict erupts into an all-out brawl.
05:41Cecil shuts down his army, but the damage has already been done. It's a staggering turn that
05:46illustrates one of Invincible's biggest themes. You can either be a good guy, or a guy who saves the world.
05:53Number 15. Omni-Man runs the gauntlet. We need to talk.
05:57Episode 7 presents a marathon of obstacles for Nolan Grayson.
06:07When you're Omni-Man, however, a marathon is like a brisk jog. Realizing that GDA has been spying on him,
06:15Omni-Man mutilates several soldiers and prepares to do the same to Donald, who instead goes out on his own
06:21terms.
06:21An explosion doesn't phase Omni-Man in the slightest, but Cecil tries to stall him with Rihanna men and an
06:28enhanced Kaiju.
06:35Joining the monster battle, Invincible is given a chance to fight alongside his dad.
06:40This father-son bonding experience is interrupted by a newly revived Immortal, who has more than a bone to pick
06:48with Omni-Man.
06:54As Omni-Man rips Immortal to pieces for a second time, Mark begins to see his idol through a different
07:01set of eyes.
07:08It's been a while. Despite all they went through, Omni-Man and Invincible make a great team.
07:14On their own, they're already powerhouses. And when they come together to face off against Viltrumites, they're unstoppable.
07:21However, it doesn't come easy.
07:26The fight begins with Mark holding back, unwilling to kill anyone. Nolan convinces him to let loose,
07:33and the pair just barely manage to defeat their enemies.
07:41It's thrilling to see Mark adapt to an even playing field. The strikes become quicker and more precise,
07:47the choreography is more complex, and the finishes are as brutal. It's just too bad Nolan is taken down by
07:55a sucker punch.
07:5713. Prison Break
07:59This was supposed to be easy.
08:01After a few brief appearances, it always felt like Mr. Liu was destined to come to blows with Invincible.
08:07Still, with the Viltrumites and Angstrom Levy dominating the villain's spotlight, few expected him to hit this hard.
08:1313. Liu's rampaging dragon form turns a prison break into full-scale chaos, as he tries to free his assassin,
08:24Multipole. Initially, it seems like Invincible and Atom Eve can handle the situation. Their confidence
08:30erodes when Liu pierces Mark's skin and reveals his healing powers, proving that magic can rival alien biology.
08:41Meanwhile, Eve gets a standout moment countering Paul's duplicates with her many constructs.
08:47It's one of the show's most creative battles, and a memorable way to hard launch Mark and Eve's relationship.
08:5312. A Stay of Execution
08:56You were my hero
08:57From the moment Nolan admits that he misses Debbie, we'd been hoping that he'd finally break out of the Viltrumites'
09:03grasp.
09:0313. I miss my wife
09:05That chance comes when Alan's life is put in danger. Refusing to let his new friend die,
09:10Nolan snaps out of his despair and joins the fight. Together, they turn on their captors in a crowd-pleasing
09:17tussle.
09:17The spectacle is made even more fun by the inclusion of Battle Beast, who gleefully indulges his thirst for combat.
09:29While the action delivers, the real payoff is emotional. Although either of them could have escaped alone,
09:36Nolan and Alan chose to stay and eventually help each other. Somehow, amidst all the carnage,
09:42this dynamic is genuinely heartfelt.
09:4511. The Guardians Get Slaughtered Again
09:47This must come as a shock, and it's not that simple. With the rest of the team off in space,
09:53stopping an alien threat, the three remaining Guardians are forced to fight the Lizard League alone.
10:08When Duplicate is seemingly killed, Rey explode, and Shrinking Rey quickly learn that they're in over
10:15their heads. Rey is able to take down Salamander, only to be devoured by Komodo Dragon. Rex remains
10:21as the last hero standing, and defeats the entire villain team alone. It just came at the cost of his
10:27hand and a bullet to the head. The choreography is as savage as it is bombastic, capturing how merciless
10:38the world of invincible is. 10. The Invincible War
10:43What have I done? Seeing the whole world face off against evil Mark Graysons is one of the show's
10:48most jaw-dropping stretches. Angstrom Levy's master plan pulls Invincibles from different realities
11:05to destroy countless cities and smear the hero's name. The result is a globe-spanning skirmish
11:12that feels like a dry run for a Viltrumite takeover. Cecil is pushed to the brink,
11:24and heroes from every corner give their all just to survive. It's a long three days of apocalyptic
11:29destruction ending with Rex sacrificing himself to take down just one invincible.
11:48Mark's rematch with Angstrom Levy was also a major highlight of the episode. We'll have to put the
11:54battles with Mark's variants above it, though. Steven Yeun's deliciously evil performances
11:59were just too good. 9. Machine Head Ambush
12:13That actually hurts This fight hurts for a variety of reasons. Mark and the audience come to empathize
12:20with Titan. This makes it all the more painful when he betrays Mark to assert his place at the top.
12:33Invincible finds himself outnumbered by Machine Head's bodyguards. Although Omni-Man is watching
12:38from above, he doesn't get his hands dirty. Maybe this was to teach Mark a lesson, or because he thought
12:44the fight was below him. In any case, Omni-Man presumably calls Cecil, who alerts the Guardians.
12:56They still could have used some more backup, as the battle leaves Invincible, Monster Girl, and Black Samson
13:03on the brink of death. Machine Head is brought to justice, and every Guardian ultimately survives,
13:10but this is hardly a victory for our heroes. 8. Omni-Man Stops the Invasion
13:16Here Goes Nothing The second episode sees our heroes go up against
13:20the Flaxen several times. You'd think this would get repetitive, but the Flaxen up their game with
13:32each attack. Being from another dimension where time flows differently, the Flaxen are able to
13:38spend decades perfecting their strategy, while Earth is only given a few days to breathe. It eventually
13:45gets to the point where Invincible and Teen Team can no longer keep the invasion under control.
13:51Making a comeback, Omni-Man shows that he's the only army that Earth needs.
13:55You don't seem to understand. Earth isn't yours to conquer.
14:01Of course, Omni-Man's plans for Earth aren't much different from what he does to the Flaxen
14:06homeworld. Draped in hellish imagery, this sequence gives a small taste of what one Viltrumite can do
14:12to one planet. 7. Anissa Educates Mark
14:21I'm Not Going Anywhere
14:23Sometimes a good showdown works because it's about a clash of ideologies. Hoping to convince
14:28Mark that Viltrumites are just, Anissa helps him save a cruise ship from a kaiju.
14:39She appeals to his compassion, arguing that humanity would prosper if they conquer Earth.
14:45Mark, as his superhero name implies, is steadfast in his beliefs and unwilling to sacrifice their freedom.
14:51Remember that we started with reason.
15:02Their moral debate unsurprisingly erupts into a fight, but to call it a fight would be generous.
15:08Anissa wipes the floor with Mark and gives him one last chance to join the Empire. Although it's brief,
15:14the tussle highlights just how formidable Anissa will be in future encounters.
15:196. Powerplex's Revenge Goes Wrong
15:22All I can say is I'm sorry. This episode builds up the minor villain Powerplex,
15:27a grieving scientist driven by the deaths of his sister and niece.
15:41He truly sees himself as a hero, blaming Invincible for his family's death.
15:45To force a confrontation, Powerplex stages a trap, presenting his wife and son as bait,
15:51then charging himself with electricity. Mark easily outmatches him, but it doesn't end with a typical
15:56victory. In a horrifying instant, Powerplex's energy reduces his own family to ashes.
16:17The emotional damage scars Mark forever, making this fight unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
16:235. Well, that escalated quickly.
16:25It's about time.
16:27Many viewers suspected that Omni-Man wasn't as virtuous as he let on,
16:32but we weren't expecting him to go full Homelander so quickly.
16:42The pilot eases the audience into a false sense of security with its bright colors and humor.
16:48Then, just as we get to know the Guardians of the Globe on a personal level,
16:52Omni-Man takes them all out.
16:555. Why have you done this?
16:576. Red Rush is stopped dead in his tracks.
17:066. Aquarius is turned to chum.
17:087. Green Ghost becomes an actual ghost.
17:118. Martian Man is stretched out of shape.
17:149. War Woman has her head turned around.
17:1710. And there isn't any gadget that can save Darkwing.
17:19Even a mortal fails to live up to his name. In a flash, seven of Earth's mightiest fall at the
17:26hands of one.
17:2710. Why? Why?
17:304. Into the Invincible Verse
17:33I thought you were stronger.
17:34In Season 2's finale, Mark's clash with Angstrom Levy is a marathon that never lets up.
17:40Fueled by vengeance and a fractured mind, Angstrom hurls Mark through the multiverse,
17:45dropping him into worlds full of talking dinosaurs, zombies, and warriors straight from Mad Max.
17:51He even comes across a hero who resembles Spider-Man.
18:00This finale isn't all about Easter eggs and references, however.
18:04Back home, Debbie's attempt to reason with Angstrom ends in disaster, finally pushing Mark over the edge.
18:10The villain punches him across several realities in one of the show's most inventive sequences.
18:30The fight ends when Mark seemingly kills Angstrom out of anger.
18:34The desperation in Steven Yeun's voice never felt more palpable, and the trauma of this fight lingered long after.
18:46In a special episode of the show, the pink-powered hero gets the spotlight in her own origin story.
18:53Eve learns that she was a government experiment and eventually faces her failed recreations.
19:11Each of these siblings uses a freaky set of abilities, forcing Eve to constantly adapt.
19:17She constantly reshapes the environment and creates improvised weapons and armor to stay ahead.
19:22It's a perfect showcase of how creative Eve can be with her abilities.
19:39The animation also feels like a huge step up from what we're used to.
19:43With more expressive visuals, quick pacing, visceral camera work, and impactful hits,
19:49we could rewatch this fight any time.
19:512. Mark was not ready for his arrival.
19:54I thought you'd never shut up.
19:56Fresh off the Invincible War, Mark barely has time to breathe before meeting Conquest,
20:01a sadistic Viltrumite who's the doomsday to Mark's Superman.
20:16Their bone-shattering brawl spores across cities for nearly half an hour of non-stop punishment.
20:22Mark gets beaten so badly that he essentially begs for a break.
20:26Oliver and Adam Eve jump in to help, with the latter's death motivating Mark to let loose like never before.
20:33Fortunately, Eve resurrects and gives him a chance by scorching the skin off Conquest.
20:38By the end, Mark taps into his rage and beats the Viltrumite to a pulp, just as he did with
20:43Angstrom Levy.
20:47It's not just one of Invincible's best fights, it's one of the best superhero fights, period.

21:18We both anticipated and dreaded this confrontation.
21:22Nolan drops the bombshell that he intends to conquer Earth in the name of the Viltrumite Empire.
21:28Mark naturally refuses to join him, but Nolan won't take no for an answer.
21:37The carnage that ensues is too unspeakable to describe,
21:41and Nolan's indifference to the lives needlessly lost only makes the sequence more haunting.
21:53Nolan attempts to literally force his worldview upon Mark,
21:58yet you could argue that Nolan is also arguing with himself.
22:02As we see through a flashback, Nolan has some grasp of what it means to be a human.
22:07This encourages Nolan to spare Mark and leave Earth.
22:11The physical and emotional scars he's left behind won't be healing anytime soon, though.
22:25Which of these fights do you think was Mark's lowest moment?
