00:00Could Saudi Arabia unblock the flow of oil currently choked off by the Iran war?
00:04Markets are desperately looking for a workaround to the vital strait of Kormuz which is all
00:08but closed off due to the conflict in the Middle East.
00:11And they might have found one at least partially in the waterway next door.
00:14Saudi Arabia has amassed an armada of ships that is heading to its western port of Yanbu
00:19in the Red Sea.
00:20Thousands of tankers are waiting to pick up oil outside of the ports.
00:23The plan is part of the kingdom's efforts to redirect its oil through its 1200km pipeline
00:28that stretches all the way from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea.
00:31Last week the boss of Saudi Aranko said he expects the pipeline to be at full capacity within
00:36days, a level that would mean the kingdom could export 5 million barrels a day from Yanbu.
00:41That won't be enough to replace all of the Saudi production lost to the war, let alone
00:45the barrels from other nearby countries.
00:47It's also not without risk given that Houthis' recent years have attacked ships in the Red
00:52Sea, but in the past they've left Saudi oil alive.
00:54The question now is how soon will the kingdom ramp up this vital pipeline?
