Stepping into the shoes of beloved characters can be a daunting task, but for the cast of ‘One Piece,’ it's all about finding the right balance. In this video, Emily Rudd and Charithra Chandran discuss using both the manga and anime as source material to bring Nami and Vivi to life in the live-action series.

00:00I remember I first watched the anime but I actually found reading the manga
00:04first more helpful because it felt like okay that is the original source
00:10material and I tried to get like the physicality and the characteristics from
00:14both the manga and the anime and then that was the starting point and then to
00:18build it out based off the live-action scripts and like our instincts because I
00:23think part of the casting is that we share things with our characters and so
00:29I guess I feel like all of our cast has been so perfectly cast I think there's
00:35something really special about our show in the sense that the people who step
00:39into these roles almost feel like they were made for these roles or these roles
00:43were made for them so I think there's an element of yes preparation and looking
00:48at the original material but also just having it instinctually and innately
00:52within you obviously an anime that has 1,155 episodes can feel pretty daunting and
01:00inaccessible and to be able to kind of give people a little taste of what one
01:05piece has to offer and hopefully convince those people that it's worth the
01:10dedication of watching the show or reading the manga is is massive for us so
01:13I feel very lucky that we can be a small part of the one piece legacy
