00:00What do we know about the airstrike on a school in Iran?
00:07A missile strike that hit the Shajara Tayebei Primary School in southern Iran,
00:12killing more than 170 people,
00:15has sparked international outrage as the Iran war continues.
00:19The US and Iran were quick to point the finger at each other,
00:22with an investigation into what exactly happened and who is responsible underway.
00:26Here's a look at how the events have unfolded.
00:29The school was struck in the morning of the 28th of February,
00:32with reports stating that more than 100 children were among those killed.
00:36It happened at the same time as an attack on an adjacent naval base
00:40run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,
00:43with satellite imagery showing that they're in proximity to each other.
00:47Official statements by US forces show that they were attacking naval bases in the area,
00:52suggesting that they were the most likely to have carried out the strike on this base too.
00:56Videos show that the strikes use Tomahawk missiles,
00:59and the US is the only country involved in the conflict that uses them.
01:04They're not generic missiles, as US President Donald Trump claimed.
01:08Trump has attempted to blame Iran for the attack.
01:10However, the New York Times published an article on the 11th of March,
01:14stating that a preliminary investigation found that the US was indeed at fault for the strike on the school.
01:20People familiar with the investigation reportedly said that the school was hit by mistake
01:25due to outdated targeting data, which wrongly labelled the school as a military target.
01:31Satellite images from 2013 show that it was part of the same compound as the base,
01:36but more recent photos show that it had since been fenced off.
01:39Questioned about the investigation, Trump has said he doesn't know anything about it,
01:44but the president is facing increasing pressure at home,
01:47with Democrats decrying the horrifying attack and calling for a swift probe into the matter.
