00:0134 autistic and neurodivergent adults from all over Ireland have gathered in
00:06Dublin's Docklands for a television program like no other.
00:10Welcome to the assembly.
00:11If you had a magic button that could go back in time, is there anything you would change about your
00:15life?
00:16What are some words that you live by?
00:17Do you still stand by those remarks?
00:22This location has been specially chosen to suit our cast.
00:26There are no lights, they're free to come and go as they please, and they share the space with the
00:31crew.
00:35What do you think we should be asking?
00:38What brand of tea do you like?
00:40When your time at RTE came to an end, did you feel supported or let down by the nation as
00:44a whole?
00:45Put that cookie down now!
00:48Do you think you're still one of the sexiest men in Ireland?
00:56There's no script, no rules, no secrets.
01:00This is an offer you cannot refuse.
01:03The team has been busy researching today's subject.
01:06They are ready for action.
01:09Welcome to the assembly.
01:17Okay, and here I am.
01:18I am excited to see my reaction.
01:21Growing up seeing Ryan Turbity on the toy show, and actually seeing him face to face, I wonder what happens
01:26when those two worlds collide.
01:32I'm more excited being Ryan Turbity, as I've only ever seen him on the telly, so it would be really
01:38good to know what he's like in person.
01:41Should I be this nervous, or is that normal?
01:44I presume it is. It's been a while.
01:48I've never really liked the toy show, to be honest.
01:50I just always found it a bit childish, and it's not me, so.
01:58I was hoping something like Jack Black or Adam Sandler is, but no, that's fine.
02:02You know, beggars can't be choosers. That's completely fine.
02:04Hello. How are you?
02:05Hello. You must be Ryan Turbity.
02:08I'm Ryan Turbity. Nice.
02:09To interview someone that you've seen interviewing people, like, back, like, over years, then, like, it's mad-like.
02:16I got something for you.
02:18What have you got for me?
02:18It's a LEDT light candle. It's very cool.
02:20Thank you. That's very thoughtful of you.
02:22You're very welcome, Ryan. It is nice to meet you.
02:24What's your favourite thing in the world to do?
02:26I was doing swimming. I was at Special Olympics Team Dundalk.
02:29Congratulations.
02:30Oh, thank you.
02:30We have another friend. Hello.
02:31Hiya. I'm Una.
02:32Hi, Una. I'm Ryan.
02:34Nice to meet you.
02:34Nice to meet you.
02:35Nice to see you.
02:37Hi.
02:37What's your name?
02:38My name is Aided.
02:39You don't think you're going to jump out of your seat.
02:42Ryan.
02:43You are as tall as people say to me.
02:44Oh, come on. Don't be mean. Don't be mean.
02:49Welcome. To kick us off today, we have the wonderful Niamh.
02:54Hi, and you're very welcome to the assembly.
02:57We are a group of autistic and neurodivergent interviewers.
03:00The rules are, well, what rules?
03:03Just relax and have a very good time as literally anything can happen.
03:07So, for our audience at home, could you please introduce yourself?
03:11My name is Ryan Tuberty, and the rest is history.
03:17I am whatever anyone thinks I am.
03:21Honest to God.
03:22Everyone has divergent opinions as to who or what it is that I do or am, so let's just see
03:28where the road takes us.
03:28How about that today?
03:29I am your guest in your house, so let's have some fun.
03:33So, our first question today is going to be from Adam.
03:37Loving that shirt.
03:38Love that shirt.
03:38Thank you very much.
03:39How did you stay grounded and deal with your mental health during the RTE scandal?
03:46With difficulty.
03:48I had an enormously beautiful family.
03:52I think I adjusted what was important in my life the other day.
03:56I was trying to explain it to somebody, and I said I was chasing the wrong goal for a long
04:00time.
04:01I was chasing things I didn't need or want or necessarily appreciate.
04:07So, that difficult time, I found the good things from it rather than dwelling on the bad.
04:13Take the positive from everything.
04:15That's a really nice way of putting it, taking the positive.
04:18I'll go for an easy question now.
04:19Go on.
04:20Favourite place for a pint of Guinness in Dublin?
04:22Why would you ask me such a hard question?
04:27Okay, no, I mean, look, I give it, it's a straight shoot.
04:30In Dublin, I love O'Donoghue's on Marion Row because the crack and staff.
04:36Actually, I was in O'Donoghue's at Christmas time, and something happened.
04:39All these people in their mid-twenties, I'm sure there's loads of you in your mid-twenties,
04:43started coming up to me, and then a queue forms, right?
04:46And here's what they kept saying.
04:47Can I just say?
04:49I said, yeah.
04:49Have you had a few drinks?
04:50Yeah, I've had a few drinks.
04:51But it doesn't matter.
04:52Can I just say, you're our Christmas?
04:54Because of the toy show.
04:55And I said, oh my God, that's so nice.
04:56And, you know, we were up in Donegal, and the same thing happened in a pub.
04:59A queue formed.
05:00All these 20-somethings wanted to say, get a, because they go, the toy man.
05:04You know?
05:04Who's the toy man?
05:06I feel that's such an honor, and I love that.
05:10See, you've got to understand, what's really interesting about London, and I'm there 18 months,
05:14and 19 months there, at first it was really tough, because I was just trying to find my way.
05:17So I come from being, in Ireland, being very well known, and that's not meant to be a flex.
05:22It's just, it's just a matter of fact.
05:23You present the lay-lay show, you know, that happened.
05:26I got on the tube the day after I arrived in London, spending my whole life going, okay,
05:30who's having a look?
05:31Who's going to take the phone out for a picture on the sly, or who's going to ask me something?
05:36Suddenly I went on the tube going, no one gives a flying flute.
05:40And I had to really adjust.
05:42I've been walking down the street, right, on a street in London, and I'd be walking down,
05:46like Cocky Joe, going, here he is.
05:49And then there, beep, beep, and I go, hey, hey.
05:50And I was kind of bust telling somebody to get out of the way.
05:53Like, because I was so used to people beeping to say hello.
05:55So now I'm a ghost in London, which is great.
05:58You are now going to hand the mic to Dean.
06:01Oh, boy.
06:01Hi, Dean.
06:03How are you, Tubzer?
06:03How's it going?
06:06I love that.
06:07I love your shirt.
06:09My question is, in your opinion, what was the best point of your career?
06:15There's a great song by Frank Sinatra, which goes, it goes,
06:20the best is yet to come, and won't that be fine?
06:23I might not have got there.
06:24I might not have got there yet.
06:26I've reached a very happy point in my life.
06:29Professionally I'm happy, but personally I'm happy.
06:31My girls are great.
06:32I'm very happy in my personal life.
06:34Family are extraordinary.
06:35Got a great job working with great people.
06:37So things are going nicely.
06:39But if you're asking me to date what has been the best bit, I would say probably the toy show.
06:45I really mean it.
06:47I loved doing that show.
06:49It brought so much joy to people's lives, including my own.
06:51Everyone won.
06:52And the people who are cynical, and the people who don't like me, and there's plenty.
06:59Like I'm not trying to do poor me, but there are plenty.
07:01And I understand that entirely.
07:02But everyone seemed to switch off the cynical button that day and say,
07:06look, he gives me a pain in my face, but this is good.
07:08So yeah, toy show.
07:09And now you're going to pass the mic to Una.
07:14How are you?
07:15I'm not too bad.
07:16What was your favourite toy show theme?
07:20Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
07:21Me too!
07:21If you say it loud enough, it really is atrocious.
07:25Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
07:30Can I say something to you?
07:32Do you remember one year in the toy show, you broke a kitchen, a toy kitchen?
07:37Okay.
07:38So what you got to understand is, you kept so giddy doing that show.
07:41We just ran riot.
07:42It was great.
07:43All the adults, and I wasn't one of them, used to go, sweet Jesus.
07:47Like, how is this thing even a thing?
07:49It's just so mad.
07:50Now we've got Frank up next.
07:51How are you, Frank?
07:52Hello.
07:52How's the crack?
07:53Ah, great.
07:54Where are you from?
07:55Originally from Hamburg, but I've lived in Sligo for 30 years now.
07:59Hamburg, did you say?
08:00Hamburg, yeah.
08:01Oh, fascinating.
08:02But I guess I'm not here to be interviewed myself.
08:07Six years ago, you patronized Greta Thunberg speaking to the UN Assembly by saying she should
08:14be home watching a movie.
08:16Yes.
08:16Which she probably would have done if her generation hadn't been let down by our generation.
08:21Yes.
08:22The following day you doubled down by claiming you were concerned about the mental health
08:27of the girl who was trying to save the planet, including our species.
08:31Yes.
08:31Do you still stand by those remarks?
08:33No, I don't stand by those remarks at all.
08:35Because I think with the passage of time you realize, no, you miscall that.
08:39And you shouldn't be too small minded a person to realize, no, Greta has her ways and Greta
08:44has her thoughts and Greta is talking for a generation.
08:47And I think that it was a misread and a miscall.
08:49So absolutely accept that point.
08:50Yeah, that's great to hear.
08:52No problem.
08:52Dankeschön.
08:53Thanks.
08:53Well done.
08:55It's Mary.
08:56Hello.
08:57Good afternoon and welcome, Ryan.
08:58Thank you, Mary.
08:59Do you ever do any gardening?
09:01Yeah, I love it.
09:03I love it as I get older.
09:04I have a very, I live in quite a small kind of muse house with a bit of, it's not
09:08much of a
09:08gardens bit.
09:10I think when I'm, when I grow up, I'd like a real garden.
09:14What is your favorite ABBA song?
09:17There was something in the air that night.
09:20Fernando.
09:21I was going to go Fandango.
09:23Flamingo.
09:25Fernando.
09:27Flamingo.
09:28What's yours?
09:30Mamma Mia.
09:31Here I go again.
09:32Yes.
09:32Mamma Mia.
09:34Here I go again.
09:36Mamma Mia.
09:36Mamma Mia.
09:37Here I go again.
09:49Oh, it's amazing.
09:50Brilliant.
09:52Marion, that is brilliant.
09:54When you were questioned about the RTE scandal, you said, the salary is enormous, but that
09:59doesn't affect my soul.
10:00What did you mean by that?
10:08Virgin Mobile.
10:09Proud sponsor of this show.
10:14Virgin Mobile.
10:15Proud sponsor of this show.
10:21Virgin Mobile.
10:21How are y'all feeling?
10:22Great.
10:24Saif, are you ready to go?
10:27Hello, Saif.
10:28Hi, Ryan.
10:29How are you today?
10:29It's very nice to meet you.
10:30It's my pleasure.
10:30While I was waiting there, I was sketching you out.
10:33You're sketching me?
10:34And you're in Sketchpad?
10:35Yeah.
10:36Yeah.
10:38First of all, thank you for making me look slightly handsome.
10:45You've given me a jaw.
10:48God, I love me.
10:50Oh, no.
10:51You can keep it if you want.
10:53I'd love to keep it, yeah.
10:54What an honor that is.
10:56Wow.
10:57That's really thoughtful of you.
10:59No problem.
10:59Wow.
11:00When you were questioned about the RT scandal, you said,
11:04the salary is enormous, but that doesn't affect my soul.
11:07What did you mean by that?
11:09What does your soul look like?
11:10Well, my soul is quite a happy place, but not without its
11:15troubles and contradictions.
11:17And I just meant that anyone who presents that show is paid
11:20a lot of money.
11:21That's the fact of the matter.
11:22But just because somebody might be earning X amount of money
11:25shouldn't mean that they can't be a good person.
11:27And I felt that that needed to be said because things were getting
11:30lost in the noise.
11:31And a lot of people were jumping up and down and pointing and saying
11:35things that weren't very nice and so forth.
11:37So I felt it had to be said.
11:39So that's why I said it.
11:41And up next is Sean.
11:43What kind of transport do you use when you're in Ireland?
11:47Hilarious.
11:47Great question.
11:48Do you know why this is so, this is fun.
11:50Yeah.
11:50So when I was, when I lived here properly, I mean, I'm here a lot.
11:54I had a really nice car that I loved.
11:56It was old.
11:57It's 20 years old, but I loved it.
11:58And it was a Jaguar.
12:00A Jaguar.
12:00Yeah.
12:01And I loved it because it was, and then I realized it's like,
12:04it was kind of obnoxious, but I just, it was so old fashioned.
12:07And I loved Inspector Morse.
12:08And I just loved the old world, but it was lovely car.
12:11Anyway, now I drive a Ford Fiesta.
12:14A Ford Fiesta?
12:15Yeah.
12:15Yeah.
12:16My, my eldest daughter and myself share this car when I'm home and it's red.
12:20We call it Noddy.
12:21There was a time where that sort of thing mattered to me.
12:23It doesn't matter damn now.
12:24Yeah.
12:25Yeah.
12:25Have you traveled much around Ireland?
12:27What is your favorite county?
12:29I don't have any problem telling you my favorite county is Galway.
12:32A lot of my family were from there back in the day.
12:36And I feel very grounded there and I've got family still over there.
12:39So Connemara, Clifton, Roundstone.
12:41I'm, I'm in heaven over there to be honest with them.
12:43I'm in heaven.
12:44Yeah.
12:44Sean, well done.
12:46Thank you Sean.
12:46We're going to move along to Niamh.
12:49So, what's the best dating advice you have been given?
12:52The best dating advice you've been given?
12:54Yeah.
12:54Don't eat chicken wings.
12:55No.
12:56That's my dating advice.
12:57Come on.
12:57Oh my God.
12:59Yeah.
13:00I mean, look at it.
13:01Nom, nom, nom.
13:02What else do you do for a living?
13:04It's going down your arms.
13:06I mean, chicken wings, spaghetti, bolognese, slurp, flap, boom.
13:12Oh God.
13:12You want to be dignified.
13:13You want to be dignified.
13:15Not eat like a barbarian.
13:16Thank you very much.
13:17Also, also nothing to Carolyn.
13:20But, but it is, it is, so spaghetti, so just watch what you eat.
13:24That would be the best dating advice.
13:27Emmett.
13:28Hi Emmett.
13:30Oh man.
13:31Yeah.
13:32I'm nervous, but.
13:35Do you know something?
13:36I did a chat show for, for 20 years.
13:39I was nervous every single night.
13:42Take your time.
13:43There's no rush.
13:44I'm here for you.
13:44Thanks.
13:45Go for it.
13:48So basically, I was wondering, I was wondering, did you ever see yourself as a famous person
13:57or celebrity when you were a child?
13:59Yeah.
14:00Yeah, I did.
14:01Really?
14:01No, no.
14:02They used to have this thing on TV called like Airtel or CFAX.
14:06And this is the truth.
14:07I was about nine years old, right?
14:10And I'd watch this and all it was, was text.
14:12It was words.
14:13I would say the news today.
14:14I used to read it aloud, imagining myself reading the news on the TV.
14:19Really?
14:19Yeah.
14:20So yes, I did.
14:21I did think that was the world I was going to go into.
14:23And then when I was a kid, I wrote a letter to the Irish Times.
14:26I was 12 and they, they published the letter.
14:29Yeah, I think I wanted to get into that world.
14:30I'm not sure why, but I felt, I was a very curious person and I felt it was a world
14:34that suited me.
14:34It was my kind of thing.
14:35I was very interested.
14:36I think if you're interested in the world, you'll never be bored.
14:38I don't like being bored.
14:40I think we can all agree on that.
14:41We don't like getting bored.
14:43No one likes being bored.
14:43So I'm living a lot of my life in London now and it's just such an interesting, has anyone been
14:48to London?
14:49Constantly changing.
14:49Constantly changing.
14:50Do you know what?
14:50When you were doing that, I thought you were saying, move on.
14:55No, I know.
14:56Because when I worked on TV, somebody would be behind the guest going, that's enough now.
15:00Yeah, I know.
15:00And I thought you were saying.
15:01Yeah, that's a nice story.
15:04I thought you were saying.
15:05Yeah, that's kind of not that interesting.
15:06So, let's move on.
15:08Thank you, Emma.
15:09Thanks.
15:09Well done.
15:09Hand it over to Aiden.
15:11All right.
15:12So, how are you, Ryan Turbidi?
15:15I'm well, thank you, Aiden.
15:16Okay.
15:16Thank you for asking.
15:17How are you?
15:18Oh, Grant.
15:19So, the first question is, I'm not sure if you look into a video game, so what kind of
15:25fighting game character would you love to play?
15:27Is it like Superman with enhanced strength and speed?
15:32Thunder guy like Raiden from Mortal Kombat?
15:34Super character guy like Bruce Lee?
15:36Or a manipulative evil person who can control everything?
15:40Like M. Bison from Street Fighter.
15:45Okay, so I don't do video games.
15:48Oh, yeah.
15:48And I'm sorry.
15:49I know I've lost the room.
15:50But I'm going to go with Mortal Kombat.
15:52Because even though I'm pretty much a pacifist and I wouldn't be, I think maybe some part of
15:57me sometimes just wants to go out and Mortal Kombat the bejesus out of it, you know?
16:00Oh, yeah, that's true.
16:01Like getting through a queue.
16:02Yeah.
16:03Yeah.
16:03Thanks.
16:04Oh, yeah.
16:05Anyway, that's my answer to you.
16:07Okay.
16:07Aiden, thank you for that.
16:08We're going to move along to Amy.
16:11Ready, Amy?
16:12Hello, Amy.
16:13Hi, Ryan.
16:14How are you today?
16:15I'm great.
16:16Can I ask you some questions?
16:18The floor is yours.
16:20You're welcome.
16:20So, one of my favorite movies is Jerry Maguire.
16:25Show me the money.
16:25And my favorite line is show me the money.
16:30You were bang on.
16:32I see that one of your favorite films is Goodfellas.
16:35What is your favorite line from that movie?
16:38Strangely, it's one of my, it's so violent and so beautiful and so extraordinary.
16:43The acting, Robert De Niro, Paul Sorvino, Joe Pesci.
16:46That's it.
16:47Funny how.
16:48That's the line.
16:48Do I muse you?
16:50What?
16:50Do I think you're funny?
16:51Yes.
16:52Yes.
16:52But I hope that answers your question.
16:54That was perfect.
16:55What's your big interest in life as a matter of interest?
16:57What do you like doing?
16:57I like spending time with my family.
17:00I like spending time with my family and planning my wedding.
17:03What?
17:03Yeah.
17:04What?
17:06And can I ask you who the fiancee is?
17:09Declan.
17:09Declan, can I ask you where you met?
17:11We met in college.
17:14He was doing the same course.
17:15And what was it about him that made you fall madly in love?
17:18That he was really sweet.
17:20Aww.
17:20And I had met him once and I said, yeah, he's mine.
17:23You knew immediately.
17:24Yeah, I said I want to be with him.
17:26Can I just say, Declan is the luckiest man.
17:28Yes.
17:29And I wish you every happiness.
17:32We're going now.
17:32Suited and booted, Jack.
17:34Are you ready to go?
17:35Jack!
17:38First of all, it's an honor to meet you.
17:40Pleasure.
17:40Likewise.
17:41Thank you, Jack.
17:41And second of all, what's your thoughts on Trump?
17:43Like, I heard you're a big fan of America and politics.
17:45Uh-oh.
17:46I know, but listen, I'm not like, I'm on a neutral stance, okay?
17:51I'm asking for visiting.
17:52Trump is extraordinarily popular.
17:54Yeah.
17:54He's extraordinarily popular.
17:55And hated.
17:56I know him.
17:56I know him.
17:57Yeah.
18:00Yeah.
18:01Good.
18:02It's good.
18:03He's extraordinarily popular.
18:04He was elected by a stomping majority.
18:07And that is what the American people have decided.
18:09Like, who are we to say, we don't like your president?
18:11Yeah, we can.
18:12And you mightn't like him.
18:13I don't like a lot of things he says or does, to be honest with you.
18:16I don't like what he's doing to democracy, you could argue.
18:19Or a lot of people who have no great rights in the world are getting probably stamped on
18:24a little bit.
18:25I'm not a fan of any of that.
18:26But it's not my country and not my vote.
18:28And do you say not my problem?
18:30Possibly.
18:31Possibly.
18:31But our problem and our job politically is to keep an eye on who we elect.
18:37And who we decide gets into Leinster House.
18:40Yeah, for sure.
18:40Okay, so who do I press it to?
18:41Well done.
18:42Thank you, Jack.
18:42And we now have Ella.
18:46Ella.
18:47Hi.
18:47I love your dress.
18:48You've got great style.
18:49It was my mother's.
18:51Was it?
18:51Yeah.
18:52She has great style.
18:53Isn't that amazing?
18:54It's terrible when somebody asks me, I'm like, sorry, my mum got it somewhere in the 90s.
18:58I don't know where it's from.
18:59What can I say?
19:00No, but it's a compliment.
19:00Can I ask you some questions?
19:01Mum, let's do it.
19:02What are some words that you live by?
19:04Perhaps once we look back on these things and laugh.
19:08When you're in the horrors, right, in life, when you're in the wars, in your private life,
19:14in your school life, in your college life, in your dating life, or whatever it might be,
19:18and you're just thinking, I can't make Ellertale out of it.
19:21There will come a point where you'll say, look, I know this is crazy, but one day we'll look back
19:27and say, do you remember how bad that was?
19:29And that expression, I think, is lovely.
19:32It's a classic.
19:32On a similar note to yours, one of my favourite ones, it's actually a toast.
19:36It's in Irish.
19:38Even beautiful.
19:39Yes.
19:39It's that we may be alive in this moment again.
19:41That we may be alive in this moment again is lovely.
19:44Okay, to finish off, I'd like to say a poem for you.
19:46Can you tell us about the poem?
19:48Is it your own?
19:49It's not my own poem.
19:50It's To the West by William Percy French.
19:52My granny, she adored, adored William Percy French.
19:55I also have a really great love for the West of Ireland, and I just feel so much peace when
19:59I'm there,
20:00similar to you.
20:00You get it, you get it.
20:02So, To the West.
20:03The Midland Great Western is doing its best.
20:06And the circular ticket is safe in my vest.
20:09But I know that the holiday never begins till I'm in Connemara among the twelve pins.
20:15The bank has no fortune of mine to invest, but there's money enough for those I love best.
20:22All the gold I shall want I shall find on the winds when I'm in Connemara among the twelve pins.
20:28Wow.
20:30And it's welcome I'll be, for no longer I'll meet the hard pallid faces I find on the street.
20:36The girl with blue eyes and the boy with brown shins shall stand for their pictures among the twelve pins.
20:44Tonight, when all London's with gaslight a gleam, and the Carlton is filled with society's cream,
20:52I'll be taking me tae down at old Johnny Flynn's, safe and away in the heart of the pins.
21:02Wow.
21:06I'll tell you I've never been moved by poetry before.
21:09Really?
21:09No, never.
21:10You know, and the choice poem.
21:12You're really there, you can feel it.
21:13I agree.
21:14And then the fact that you moved to London with it then, I was going, sugar, this is my story.
21:17And I thought, I'm going to get that poem, frame that poem, and I'm going to put it up in
21:23my little flat in London
21:24to remind me every time I see it of Ella and today and that lovely memory you've just given me
21:29right there.
21:29Thank you so much.
21:30That was incredible.
21:32Actual goosebumps, Ella.
21:33Thank you so much for that.
21:34When your time at RTE came to an end, did you feel supported or let down by the nation as
21:38a whole?
21:56Uh, I have 2000 letters in the boxes.
22:17home from Irish people cards and letters and they kept coming one after another
22:25by the bagelow to my house they were addressed to Ryan Tuberty Dublin Ryan
22:29Tuberty Dun Laoghaire Ryan Tuberty and the post people from on post just
22:35deliver them all one after another and and my dream is to write back to each
22:40and every one of them say thank you and I gave them to some friends of mine to
22:43have a look through and they cried they couldn't believe how lovely people were
22:47and people had sent in the cards you know here's a fiver for get yourself a
22:54coffee here's here's a packet of jellies and oh you love sweets and so I felt
23:00let down once or twice by people who probably could have been a bit better at
23:03what they did but the people and everywhere I went were lovely honest to
23:07goodness that's lovely thank you so I love musical theater I have watched the
23:12toy show my whole life like most people here absolutely love it and I have a
23:17great question for you could I please sing the greatest show with you oh my god
23:23good luck thank you wow it's bringing it all back now
23:28tell me do you want to go where it's covered in all the colored lights where
23:34the runaways are running the night impossible come true it's taking over you
23:39this is the greatest show we light it up we won't come down and the song can't stop us now
23:48watching it come true it's taking over you this is the greatest show
23:58thank you well done Rebecca will you pass the mic to feel I'm very impressed with
24:05your impressions well I used to impersonate teachers as a
24:08kid I can and can you do any just I can do Arnold Schwarzenegger put that cookie
24:14down and beats me but if I was a child reaching for a biscuit do it again jar of
24:22biscuits right I'm three I'm reaching in go put that cookie down so and once we say
24:32did you have any special accommodations for children with autism lately show and if
24:37and if you had someone with autism what did you learn from them as the
24:42legislature progressed it became much more inclusive initially when I when I
24:47when I started it it was lovely but it was just kids who could show you with the
24:52toys but then we started getting into maybe kids who might have had a tough
24:55time at school kids who might have been homeless actually yeah but we didn't but
24:59we didn't point and say this is that this is that this is the child never never
25:03never never never we just said who are you and every child the equality was
25:07here you are just be yourself so I remember when I was in secondary school I
25:12kind of got picked on a bit for being autistic you know that kind of way but
25:16like I kind of turn around and don't talk in autism one day and then suddenly like
25:21people did kind of change your opinion towards me when you spoke openly I spoke
25:25openly about it yeah like there was a lot of lads that like came up to me and
25:29were like Jesus I didn't know that about you and all that kind of stuff like when I
25:32was in school in the early 80s we you never heard the word autism never heard it
25:36pretty crazy but I'm hoping it's better I'm done I'm not saying it's it's fixed
25:40but it's got to be better since you were in school but anyway I hope so yeah I
25:44don't know enough so I'm not gonna pretend I don't know thank you very much
25:46Ryan hey yo thank you so much Courtney pop up there
25:52hi Courtney hello tubby how are you that's a tubby I haven't heard for a
25:56while but we'll take it um do you know how many homeless people are in Ireland no I
26:01don't do you want to guess um I would say probably 24 to 25,000 so 15,000 do you
26:09know how many homeless children there are absolutely not 5,000 yeah 5,000 I mean
26:14that's a shocking figure and it's a depressing figure and can I ask you
26:18about why you're interested in that or what because I am part of that generation
26:23who can't afford houses yeah do you know what I mean I'm like I like I want to be
26:28a musician I don't want a normal job yeah so I've just made my life a million
26:32times harder do you know I mean I'm never probably gonna enjoy working in an
26:36office do you know what I mean I'm gonna want to be on stage so that just makes my
26:40finances an absolute nightmare do you vote oh yeah and that kind of leads
26:45into my next question like your family has ties to finna fall yeah how do you
26:49feel about their decision to raise the student fees by another thousand euro
26:53while we're still in a housing crisis and a cost-of-living crisis I don't know
26:57because I'm not a politician I'm not oh fair with all of that and if I was a
27:01politician and gave you that answer you'd have full permission to say that's
27:04disgrace but I'm not so I don't know enough about it and I don't think my
27:07opinion really is that important but I don't know enough I can gather what
27:11you're saying it's obviously not good and not nice and not fair but I don't
27:15know no I don't want to spoof you with an answer I don't know
27:20Martin Martin you know I'm looking at you I'm not ready for anything okay here we
27:27go okay right what is your favorite dessert my sister's Eve's pudding my
27:36sister's port-a-cake or a pavlova I have the palette of it of a child I don't
27:43like posh food I don't like posh restaurants I don't like fuss and people
27:47say oh it's a bit of a home it's a bit of a house it's just I look at kids
27:52in
27:52restaurants and I don't we started okay sorry who is the nicest celebrity you
27:59have met suddenly a flock of owls I always loved celebrities who were nice to
28:15people around me in the station or wherever I work in other words who were
28:22really kind to the receptionists and the security guys in the hair and makeup I
28:26always kind of think of someone like Michael Bublé you know Michael Bublé
28:28oh yeah no no Michael Bublé the singer you know it's beginning to look a lot
28:33like Christmas oh yeah yeah when he starts singing everyone in the room just
28:37goes ah I know he's lovely so the point to my story is he came in he was lovely to
28:44everyone he was funny Michael Bublé is one of one of the just well mannered
28:49nicest people yeah mm-hmm sorry there you are oh yeah is that enough for you yeah
28:55thank you very much yeah well Martin and you were going to hand the baton over to
29:00Orla come on Orla would you like to run in the presidential election what do you
29:09think I don't know and no obviously no is the answer to that question but it's a
29:15very important job you want to say okay I'm glad they're there because they're
29:19gonna represent us nicely and they're gonna be able to talk and whatever okay
29:22appreciate ready to hand the microphone over to Kristen how are you doing today I'm
29:27good yep and Meghan Markle hmm what is she like I met her for about four and a
29:37half seconds and so I don't like to pretend she's my friend in the bit I met her she
29:44was really warm and charming in the UK they hate her like they treat her so
29:51badly and so disrespectfully they're so mean well I just don't read it too much I see
29:55headlines and I also feel I think I have an empathy for people who are jumped on
29:59by the media I feel a bit sorry for them so maybe just a bit of that about it
30:02yeah are you a Meghan fan I'm a Meghan fan Andrew is gonna come up next
30:09Andrew Andrew no should we hang on right Andy Andy you've got a blue suit and you'll look
30:16real cool he's beginning to look a lot stop it no the first question is if you
30:32ever had the chance what would be your number one question to Elvis Presley oh
30:44it's a long story I love Elvis Presley I was a member of the Irish Elvis Presley fan club oh
30:50yeah there was yeah we used to go and see Elvis Presley impersonators I myself my pals are big Elvis
30:55heads when all the guys in school were going to you know discos and stuff we were just gathered
31:00around with a couple of guitars singing Elvis songs so what would I ask Elvis yep I'd just say give
31:05us a song Kyle what's your favorite other song do you have one oh yeah there is there is one
31:10burning love Lord and I feel my temperature burning oh yeah noise your gaze is slimming higher
31:16like a sweet little love desire and you light my burning sky we're burning love I'm just a hunker
31:23hunker burning love I'm just a hunker hunker burning love we go for the hunk I'm just a hunker
31:34wow you're good all right and here's the final question and I'll leave you leave you off like
31:40similar to Richard Nixon Nixon I am not a crook yeah yeah I know did you believe that the whole
31:46RT paygate scandal had been completely blown out of potion a lot of get out of control like yeah it
31:52was it was it was a terribly unfortunate I think to say the least situation and uh you know I
31:58could say
31:59a lot and bore you to death with the detail but I'd not I'm not a big fan of poor
32:03me um and like a
32:05poor me isn't a term there's people have bigger problems in the world than I might ever have in
32:09mind so I see it as uh looking back in it as it just just did brutal communications around the
32:16place
32:16and a lot of avoidable situations happen there but I also firmly believe in the rearview mirror
32:23and I'm looking at that situation in the rearview mirror I've got I'm out of there a year and a
32:28half
32:28I love being in RT had a great time there I worked with the best people in my life there
32:32and I miss
32:32them but um I'm in a very very good place in London I've got a brilliant job I've got great
32:38people I'm
32:38working with and and I gotta I created a second chance for myself yeah and that doesn't mean I'll
32:44never be back in Ireland someday uh but for now I'm so happy and fortunate that um the past is
32:50another
32:51country oh you could just says I have no knowledge of the event in question yeah besides you and me
32:57let's just hop on the plane go viva Las Vegas thank you thank you very much Andrew has left the
33:06building do you think you may be neurodivergent yourself
33:19virgin mobile proud sponsor of this show
33:24virgin mobile proud sponsor of this show
33:37um let's see do you think you may be neurodivergent yourself
33:41um you know I could be I I don't I it's not something I'd be worried about or embarrassed
33:46about oh no um as you know um people used to say you're hyper you know and I'd say nowadays
33:53if I was
33:53doing that someone would say maybe we should just have a conversation about this you know I'd say
33:58but um I think that if there is this what what they call the spectrum sure I don't so do
34:04you hate
34:05that word or do you uh I think I think it's over simplified many people tend to think it's kind
34:10of
34:10like a line from from left to right but it's really not it's it's multi-dimensional just to
34:15say the least yeah well this is the thing I I think that
34:21if you I don't think I'm neurodiverse but I also think people are neurodiverse and some are more
34:29neurodiverse than others in different ways sure sure and I don't really like too much if somebody
34:36is claiming to be something and go we're all the same we're all neurodiverse and we're not
34:42just if some people have different levels and so so I just wonder about that and that's your call
34:46as to when you see something someone going yes I'm so neurodiverse you're going are you you know
34:50did you could you get you get everyone's got their idea of it like right and do you get idea
34:54I wonder do you get bothered when certain people say they've got certain things going on or do you
34:58say no that's your things well like recently when like blind blind boy the the podcaster uh he came
35:04out as neurodiverse and when I said when I said that to my mom he says he's autistic now and
35:08she's like
35:09don't let them take that away from you yeah they're all saying it they're all saying it oh that's
35:13great I love that I love that is that your mother yeah oh wow what's her name uh Ann
35:20Kenny is and Kenny wow she's the smartest voice not in the room today um okay so I'll I'll round
35:25I'll round it up I've got how difficult was your divorce and what helped you to do that period of
35:29your life I never talk about uh and not because it's it's it's uh to be rude it's because it's
35:36unfair to
35:37people you know that's the bit where I say there's public and private and sometimes you just have
35:42to keep here absolutely a little bit of your no problem a little bit on on those things because
35:46you don't want to you don't upset anybody else but I appreciate the question okay thank you very
35:49much no problem Billy hello Ryan uh my name is Billy and uh most importantly I'm from America
35:59god bless America yep that's right new york
36:11wow the city will never sleep
36:14well done Billy thank you very much Ryan in 2009 you were voted one of the 19th sexiest man in
36:24ireland
36:28do you think you're still one of the sexiest man in ireland
36:36one of them um you got that did you yeah there's a list uh who what that who did I
36:46bribe thanks for
36:47your support uh yeah yeah no I I don't I don't uh I don't entertain such such uh nonsense because
36:55it's just so silly but yeah I let the I let the good-looking guys uh have fun with that
36:59I'll just do
36:59my thing I I like being uh I like the nerdy thing I mean I think that my tribe are
37:06uh is uh a bunch of
37:09people who like movies and books and uh history I think looks is it looks to me aren't top of
37:16the
37:17agenda thank god for that eh oh yeah and now we're going to move on to lara well done thanks
37:24guys thank
37:25you guys it's very kind of you how are you hello so I read that your grandfather is Todd Andrews
37:32okay was an important figure in the fianna fall party yeah have you ever considered running for
37:38election as a politician yeah I have I always looked at politics as a very much a potential
37:42place to go at some point if I felt moved yeah and then I ended up in media world and
37:47that suits
37:48fine but I'm currently you know 52 and a half um so what I've learned in life yeah is and
37:55I'm sure
37:55a lot of people here today feel the same my life is not linear and you never know so let's
38:00keep the
38:00wheels turning and see where the world takes us you know just be it would be ridiculous to say no
38:04to everything is that what you like to do um well you know as I'm autistic you know we've had
38:10hard
38:10times over the years like I was really badly bullied I had to leave school on medical grounds and
38:16all that sort of thing um and you know things are tough yeah at the moment um thank you well
38:23you know
38:24um uh I won't go into too much detail me and my mom and my sister we support each other
38:29we're
38:29the three of us you know we support each other watch a beautiful film or or read a book called
38:34little women oh little women yeah Louisa May Alcott Louisa May Alcott respect but you know what I
38:40think that as you're talking about your sister your mom I'm thinking of you guys supporting each other
38:45well luckily none of us have uh ever got scarlet fever so that's a good thank you for being such
38:50a

39:01you thank you
39:02we're at the final question can you believe it oh my god we have emily
39:10hi ryan emily ryan oh my trouble seems so far away now it looks like it's deep ryan if you
39:17had a magic
39:17button that could go back in time is there anything you would change about your life there aren't
39:21enough buttons uh because i think i've i've i've made so many stupid mistakes in my life that there's
39:28so many buttons i'd need to press however the answer is no because if i pressed all those buttons and
39:36if
39:36i tried to change things i wouldn't be where i am today which is happy and rested and curious and
39:45still
39:46passionate and still enthusiastic and with somebody who i'm very very happy to be with i'm more than
39:53happy somebody you know who's going to be with me forever and you know what when you look around
39:58the world and how crazy and how sad and how mad it can be i'm doing all right uh so
40:03i'm going to
40:03leave the buttons alone good woman emily thank you so much andrew and wine tobedee thanks for coming

40:25most
40:26beautiful experiences of my life oh thank you because it's much more interesting being interviewed by
40:34people who sincerely care about the question they're asking coming from the viewpoints that
40:39you're all coming from than anyone else i've ever been interviewed in before in my life and thank you
40:44for for your questions you put a lot of thought and effort into it i really appreciate it i hope

41:40people say you're riding high in april shut down in may but i know i'm gonna change that tune
41:54what a song when i'm back on top back on top in june i said that's life that's life
42:06and as funny as it may seem some people get their kicks
42:14something on a dream but i don't let it let it let it get me down
42:23he got on brilliant it was like he was like one of us
42:30i think he was very good at walking the crowd as such there's a few questions he didn't fully answer
42:35but that's to be expected as always it's going to be the whole polit politician you're going to try
42:41to avoid it by bringing it somewhere else
43:00i was like this is a great pr thing for him coming back in and you could tell the first
43:06half
