Rewatching and brutally reviewing House of Carters (E! 2006 reality series) in 2026 – the one-season, 8-episode mess that threw Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, his little brother Aaron Carter, and sisters Angel, Leslie & Bobbie Jean under one roof in LA. This show promised family reconnection and career revival… but did it just super exploit the siblings’ deep childhood trauma from fame-obsessed parents, emotional neglect, addiction cycles, and years of dysfunction? I break down whether dragging their private pain onto national TV was ever a good idea at all. Plus: How much responsibility did Nick (still a young adult himself and far from stable) have to shoulder for raising and “saving” his fully grown siblings? Watch me go through the raw highs (rare genuine moments), crushing lows (fistfights, breakdowns, and zero boundaries), and why Nick later called the entire experiment “disastrous” in his memoir – saying it only made their family problems worse. With Aaron Carter’s tragic passing and new 2025 docs shining fresh light on the Carter family pain, this retrospective asks the tough questions: Was House of Carters early exploitative reality TV at its worst… or just a well-intentioned trainwreck? No sugarcoating – pure honest analysis of 2000s celeb-family reality shows.Perfect for fans of 2000s reality TV retrospectives, Backstreet Boys/Aaron Carter deep-dives, toxic family dynamics, or anyone wondering if shows like this did more harm than good.

00:00Who are the Carters? Brothers, sisters, twins, friends, rivals. In our dysfunctional family,
00:06we've seen things that no kid should see. We're used to being on our own, but being together,
00:10that's a whole different subject. Have you ever felt gross after watching a reality series? Like,
00:16people stood around and watched this happen. That show to me was House of Carters. It was a noble
00:22idea. Nick Carter wanted to go in and fix his family, but they were not sitcom broken. They
00:29were actually broken broken. I'm getting us all together to start over as a family. Just the
00:35five of us. Aaron, Angel, Leslie, Bobby Jean, and me, Nick. It'll make us stronger or it'll kill us.
00:42Guess we'll see. Nick Carter is a boy band guy. He's not a therapist. He should not have gone in
00:49there and pretended to be Jennifer Melfi. I thought it was a bad idea for them to do the show.
00:54It did not help Aaron's cause. So this reality series, it felt a lot like going into a crime
01:02scene. Every episode, every interaction they had, I felt like Columbo and I was seeing the clues to
01:10what the heck was going to happen to this family in the future. Whether it was watching Aaron and Nick
01:16fight. Dude, I'm not, I'm not going to be your dad. I'm going to be your big brother and that's
01:19it.
01:20It's going to be good. I'm glad you're here. I'm glad I'm here too. I love you, man. I love
01:24you too,
01:24man. Or seeing how bad the three Carter sisters were at this point, House of Carters was less of
01:30a reality show and more of an autopsy report on a family. I don't even really understand why Nick
01:38Carter allowed this to come out. House of Carters came out in 2006 on the E! Network. The show had
01:44a run of
01:44six episodes and honestly, Nick should have fired his entire management team for allowing him to
01:51put this out there. I'm Nick Carter. I was basically living on my own by the time I was 17.
01:57We had money and fame, but we never actually lived like a normal family. Well, I'm about to change all
02:02of that. The reason I'm bringing my family back together is to get inside their heads and to really
02:06fix the problems that we had. This reality series came out at a time when the Baxby boys were on
02:11their
02:11downward decline. They weren't exactly a legacy act yet, but you know, they were more likely to
02:17have adult contemporary charting songs than Billboard 100. This show was an attempt, I think, at getting
02:24their name back out there. Maybe it would get them a few new fans. Nick complains about a lot
02:28of stuff. He's not the boss of me. You're gonna respect me. Don't spit in my face. You're gonna
02:31respect me. And there's a conflict. I'm like, phew. I've been sitting there waiting for somebody to
02:36acknowledge me. We're struggling, but we're making it. Everything about this show seems cursed.
02:41Right down to the promotional poster. Look at how evil Nick Carter is coming off here.
02:47And what's this design? Are the Carter family some sort of new metal band? Is Aaron trying to warn us
02:54of something? You do realize the type of music that Nick Carter was making in 2006, right?
03:10You're not promoting the Osbournes. Divided, they've fallen. United, they stand a chance.
03:18You do reality, a lot of times you get a chance, or any type of television show, especially reality,
03:22you get a chance to look at yourself because it's real life and see what you're doing and kind of
03:27analyze your life, and that's kind of cool. As a viewer, if I came across one of the commercials
03:31for this show, I knew I was in for a train wreck. Nick Carter and his Backstreet Boys secrets are
03:37fair
03:37game as he, his pop star bro Aaron, and their sisters jump on the reality show bandwagon. It was a
03:44little scary jumping into the whole television world, especially reality, but I think that we can handle it.
03:50This has bad idea written all over it. I'm intrigued now to watch your show. I think this publicity tour
03:56for the new ego is very wise on you on your part. I had no idea all this was going
04:00on in your mind.
04:01Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
04:02Without saying it all.
04:06Everybody should have stepped in and said, Nick, don't do this.
04:08It's not like the Backstreet Boys behind closed doors were that sensitive with each other.
04:13Shut the fuck up and let me talk?
04:15You shut the fuck up.
04:16Listen, you said you shut the fuck up.
04:18You said you shut the fuck up.
04:20I swear to God.
04:21You want to hear everybody.
04:22Don't fucking talk to me that way.
04:23I'll talk to you however I want to talk to you.
04:25You don't get respect out of me that way.
04:27You want to hear everybody around the table.
04:28Don't be a fucking dick like everyone knows you are.
04:30You don't want to hear everybody.
04:31You understand what I'm saying?
04:31Don't be a fucking dick.
04:32The premise for House of Carters is, if all of Nick's family comes to live with him,
04:39maybe the family will come together, they'll get over all their demons, and they'll start
04:44functioning like a family.
04:45But that's a terrible idea.
04:47You know, I think they're old enough that they can do that now.
04:51It's not that hard.
04:55Especially now that we know even more about what Nick Carter was dealing with.
05:00When I was overweight, when I was drinking and doing drugs, when I was being a maniac,
05:06it affected the group.
05:08And I got confronted by you guys.
05:11Everybody.
05:12Docked thousands of dollars for not showing up on time.
05:16I had to get better for you.
05:18AJ did too.
05:19AJ had to as well.
05:20We all had it in different ways.
05:21That's all I'm trying to say.
05:22And I'm passionate about it because I'm still pissed off.
05:25And I'm not alone in thinking that was a bad idea.
05:28Even his manager, Kenneth, has his doubts.
05:31You guys were living together.
05:32It may be cool.
05:33I don't know.
05:34You gotta help me out a little bit.
05:36Because they're strong personality-wise.
05:38You see Nanny written on my chest?
05:39You just kind of already know this is gonna go horrible.
05:44So bad, in fact, that earlier when I said this was like an autopsy report,
05:48I have to figure out which one of the sisters is still alive 15 years later.
05:53Angel Carter is now the only living sibling of Nick Carter.
05:58And it kind of makes sense when you watch the show.
06:00She's the only sister who actually looks at Nick like a brother.
06:04Like with Nick, Nick is like the best brother ever.
06:07He really is.
06:08He's really done something here.
06:10He has made such a dramatic change from the way like it used to be.
06:12Like every time I call Nick, he answers his phone for me.
06:16You know what I mean?
06:16That means so much.
06:17It means so much.
06:19Like he is, you know, in this life, my family is all I have.
06:23These are my best friends.
06:24I don't have a lot of friends.
06:25I don't trust a lot of people.
06:26But these are my friends.
06:27And like Nick is a role model for me.
06:30Like I really look up to him and I really admire him a lot.
06:33Not a meal ticket.
06:34Not somebody who you can dump your problems on.
06:37No, someone she actually cares about.
06:39Someone who is actually looking out for him.
06:42You too?
06:42Yeah, he's definitely somebody.
06:47Angel Carter is Aaron Carter's twin.
06:49These days, Angel works as a mental health advocate
06:53and is a champion over at the Kids Mental Health Foundation.
06:56The first problem I see with the entire premise,
06:59why is Nick Carter the one who has to take on parental responsibilities?
07:03You move around this house all day asking for people to feel sorry for you.
07:06But we don't feel sorry for you.
07:08I don't need anybody to feel sorry for me, Nick.
07:09I don't need anybody.
07:10Leslie, we don't feel sorry for you.
07:11These are grown adults and Nick Carter has to reprimand them.
07:16Is it really fair to the guy that the minute his brother is allowed in the house,
07:21he has to yell at him to not go over the railing.
07:25Don't jump in the pool.
07:26You're going to hurt yourself.
07:28No, Aaron, don't please.
07:30And Aaron Carter doesn't want to hear any of that.
07:32And you know I'm going to do this.
07:34I know you're going to do it, but not now.
07:35Oh, I can even go off of this way.
07:37No, you can't.
07:37Yes, I can.
07:39Nick's not his dad.
07:40That's not my dad.
07:42That's not my dad.
07:44At the time, Leslie, like Aaron, wanted a career in music.
07:49As I'm falling, as I'm falling.
07:54Leslie wants to be a singer.
07:56And yes, her manager is her mom.
08:00Yeah, she could be another cash cow for her mom.
08:03Leslie, I hadn't seen her in so long.
08:06Angel and BJ know that Leslie is gifted in certain ways.
08:09And that is definitely, there's a jealousy factor there.
08:13Living with her is going to be hard because when she gets pissed, she sees red.
08:17Throughout watching this show, I really felt bad for Nick Carter.
08:22He didn't need this kind of publicity, but he was doing it so that his sister Leslie and
08:28his brother Aaron could restart their music career.
08:30I really feel like Leslie should have listened to Nick because in 2025, he's been part of
08:38a group that sold over 130 million albums.
08:41She could even have listened to Aaron Carter, who, while he was alive, had sold over 10 million
08:46albums.
08:46And the Carter family is like the boy band musical equivalent of the Von Erich family.
08:53You know how, if you've seen the movie, you know this.
08:56And if you're a wrestling fan, you know this.
08:59How Kevin Von Erich is the only living Von Erich.
09:03Well, BJ and Leslie are no longer with us.
09:07And it seems like he just wants to have some family back in his life.
09:10But what he got instead was having to deal with his sister BJ coming off her divorce.
09:16And non-stop arguments that are now being broadcasted to the entire world.
09:21BJ is very damaged from the whole divorce.
09:25She was really damaged.
09:27Probably worse than everybody else.
09:29That's really why, huh?
09:31No, it's because we're trying to protect your interests.
09:34Leslie is going to be a nightmare.
09:35You don't want me connecting with Leslie.
09:36You want to be able to shut that down?
09:37I love Leslie.
09:38No.
09:38BJ, look how awesome you're in a little bed.
09:40Do you remember that 90s show, Party of Five, where it was about dead parents and the
09:45oldest had to raise the entire family?
09:48That kind of feels like this.
09:51BJ, give me your drink while you...
09:53Give me the damn drink.
09:53No, I...
09:54Give me the freaking drink while you're going...
09:55Leave my drink alone, ****.
09:58And the sad thing is, is Nick, and to a lesser extent Aaron, but mostly Nick, is the only
10:05one with a consistent source of income.
10:08So he's got to fund everybody's deadbeat lifestyle.
10:11Look at Nick Carter's eyes as they're filming this.
10:14This is a man buckling under the pressure.
10:16Because I want to know, like, what everybody's doing.
10:18I have some modeling meeting.
10:19You're doing modeling?
10:20Mm-hmm.
10:22I'll have to start.
10:23It was at this moment, I think Nick had the thought, oh God, nobody in this household
10:27has any real revenue coming in.
10:29What about you, Leslie?
10:30Still doing the singing thing.
10:33That's what I've been doing.
10:35I wrote a new song I want you to hear.
10:38I'll check it out.
10:38What are you doing, PJ?
10:39I really have this really huge desire to go to culinary school.
10:45Awesome.
10:45I think I could be a really great chef.
10:47He's trying to save his family, and all he's getting in return is freeloaders who don't
10:53appreciate a single thing he's trying to do.
10:56Everybody's waiting.
10:57You should wait, too.
10:58Give me the damn mushrooms.
10:59Angel, come on.
11:00I'm hungry.
11:01Fine, you can have one, too.
11:02Everybody have a little bit.
11:05You want a mushroom, too, Leslie?
11:06Not right now.
11:07And Nick Carter at this time is only 26.
11:10Could you imagine you at 26, or if you're younger than 26, you now, trying to deal with
11:17all this?
11:18Aaron, don't be an idiot.
11:20Aaron, just don't do it.
11:22Aaron, don't be a...
11:24Freaking idiot.
11:25Oh, this is another one of those reality shows where the people in it have no idea how to
11:31take care of a dog.
11:33Why do you have a dog if you don't feed the freaking dog by yourself?
11:35I'm not listening to you.
11:36They can't take care of a dog.
11:37They can't even cook a meal without accidentally setting things on fire.
11:41They're kind of like a Sim with no skill points.
11:43I know what you're thinking.
11:45Why is this Nick's responsibility?
11:47They got parents.
11:49Apparently, the parents' philosophy was for these kids to just...
11:54Figure it out.
11:55And that worked out great for the kids, didn't it?
11:58I was basically, you know, when I was 15 years old, I was basically, like, free reign.
12:02I basically raised myself.
12:04Yeah.
12:04You know, for Nick, like, he wasn't...
12:07You gotta understand, he wasn't really allowed to come around me.
12:11Right.
12:12And so I turned 18.
12:13As soon as I turned 18, I came out to California.
12:16Their mom is a real piece of work.
12:18There's a reason that Nick Carter did not talk to her.
12:21Sacrificed my whole entire life for that child and for the other child for the sake of that
12:27family.
12:27And the mom went on acting like she was mother of the year.
12:30The drugs, the drinking, the partying.
12:34But you thought it wouldn't happen to your kids.
12:36I tried to prevent it from happening, but I couldn't.
12:39Sure, lady.
12:40Whatever you say.
12:41You're...
12:42You're really strict.
12:43But she's not the only sucky parent.
12:46They both did a rotten job.
12:48Understand that I'm mad at both of them.
12:50Alright?
12:50But now, if this is a serious situation, I'm gonna take it seriously.
12:53Because I'm gonna take it to heart.
12:54But they've done s*** to us.
12:56What?
12:57Out of just anger.
12:59Angerly.
12:59She put out a book against him.
13:01Calling up asking if I'm gay.
13:03Are you kidding me?
13:04F***ing kidding me.
13:05Why would you say that to your own son?
13:06So, I've been around the internet long enough to remember the classic Which Backstreet Boy
13:11Is Gay song.
13:12Which one of us is gay?
13:16Tell me who.
13:17Ain't saying that it's Brian.
13:20Brian, tell me who.
13:22Ain't saying you're caught Kevin.
13:25Tell me who.
13:26And I thought, oh man, everybody's making fun of the Backstreet Boys for being gay.
13:30But that would be really odd if your own mom was doing that to you.
13:34She siphoned money off of them.
13:36Sometimes I would just stop and I would be like, mom, why can't we just fight about, you
13:40know, me being a teenager and me growing up?
13:43It was all about money.
13:44She pitted family members against each other.
13:47Because they don't realize what they're doing to the children.
13:49And then before you know it, a product of like me turns out.
13:53And I don't give a damn what goes on.
13:54That's what happens when you become so chewed up that you just don't care about anything around you.
14:00I'm kind of surprised how long it actually took for documentaries to be made about this family.
14:05In 2007, on the E! Network, this is already bubbling to the surface.
14:10I was with mom and I didn't even get a chance to cry about mom and dad's divorce.
14:14It's really not even an issue.
14:16Yes, it is an issue.
14:17No, good one.
14:18Angel, it is always going to be a part of us.
14:20Yeah, but it's an issue.
14:20If the issue sound like you let it be an issue.
14:23Oh, and I thought this would be like one of those happy endings where somebody eventually gets their life together.
14:29But no, even as an old lady, she got arrested for fighting over the TV remote.
14:38Not a joke.
14:39Literally, fighting over the TV remote.
14:42It's only night one and BJ is blackout drunk.
14:46And Nick has to talk her down.
14:48I'm right along, too.
14:50Trailer trash!
14:51Oh yeah, I'm trailer trash, too.
14:54So then why can't you be in a sober state of mine?
14:59Oh, Nick.
15:01I'm asking you.
15:03I'm, I, why can't you?
15:06I'm sober right now.
15:09In what way?
15:11And, and, and, and what discretion?
15:13And you know the siblings are really messed up when BJ can just say,
15:18Hey Nick, we know you're hiding anger and drinking issues.
15:21And you're just thinking, yeah, but he's the most put together member of the family.
15:26Like I said, this show is an autopsy because BJ died from...
15:31Are you drinking?
15:33And, she's got champagne in her bathroom.
15:35Knowing how it all ends for BJ, you kind of feel like a voyeur.
15:40How many is that?
15:42I've drank like a half a bottle of champagne.
15:45All right, well then, can you chill?
15:46Like maybe wait?
15:47God, leave me alone.
15:49Yeah, like, I see you flying off the handle.
15:53Somebody, anybody want to step in?
15:55Help her out?
15:56What's Nick supposed to do?
15:57If she wants to act like a little kid, I guess he can treat her like one.
16:02Who's going to, you're making me go to bed, Nick.
16:05I'm not making you go to bed.
16:06Yeah, you are.
16:07You guys were scattered everywhere.
16:09You know, I'm not really worried about you.
16:12Ooh, Nick really whiffed on that call.
16:16The girls are not motivated to ever do anything.
16:19That's why I planned on, that's one of my main reasons of getting everybody here.
16:23The way they positioned House of Carters, especially on that promotional poster,
16:27was that it's going to be rocky from the start, but they're going to figure it out.
16:32It's just a vicious cycle that is so common in America that you see and like all over the world.
16:38And I just, I'm not about to let that, you know, take, you know, a hold of my family and
16:43separate us.
16:44I don't want us to be 35 or however old we are and not even talking to each other.
16:48I mean, the premise of the show is basically us coming back together as a family and trying to rebuild
16:52and be a better family.
16:55Just with the kids, especially after such a drastic breakup with the family, like, and our sisters and all that.
17:02So there's so much just intertwined and it's like hard to explain.
17:05You got to just kind of watch.
17:06United, they have a chance, but that's where the reality shows up in reality TV.
17:12They didn't.
17:13There wasn't going to be a happy ending.
17:15There was a certain level of delusion within the Carter family.
17:19Aaron Carter is up all night, he's making his music, but by doing so, he's keeping Nick up.
17:26And Nick is the only one with an actual paying gig.
17:29He funds the entire lifestyle that these people get to have, but he gets no respect.
17:34Aaron, don't make loud music, please.
17:36Well, not loud music, just bumping music.
17:38Aaron, people got to sleep.
17:40Can't you do this in the daytime?
17:42I like to do my work at night.
17:44Aaron, there are other people that live in his house.
17:46That's disrespectful.
17:47Exactly.
17:47I live in your house.
17:48Everybody else is cool with it but you.
17:50Aaron just doesn't get it.
17:52He just wants white boy summer.
17:56I'm an Aaron.
18:01And now, there was that recent documentary about the Carter brothers where they showed this clip off.
18:07You're going to respect me.
18:08Don't spit in my face.
18:09You're going to respect me.
18:10Don't spit in my face, Nick.
18:11You're going to respect me.
18:12Don't spit in my face.
18:12You're going to respect me.
18:12I'm just thinking you're doing this to me.
18:14Stop it.
18:15You're going to respect me.
18:15Stop it.
18:16You're going to respect me.
18:16Stop it.
18:17What are you doing?
18:18You're going to respect me.
18:18What is wrong with you?
18:20And yeah, intense Nick is kind of scary for a boy band guy.
18:25What is wrong with you?
18:27You're going to respect my house.
18:28Get out of my room.
18:29What are you doing?
18:31No, I'm still...
18:32But in the documentary, you're kind of seeing this clip out of context.
18:36You're not a good person and everybody sees it, Nick.
18:39What the documentary wasn't showing was just how disrespectful Aaron Carter was being.
18:44Yeah, but let me tell you something real quick.
18:46You're going to turn the music down and respect me.
18:49All right?
18:50Spit in my face, dog.
18:51Don't spit in my face, man.
18:52And even in this clip, he is totally saying things to provoke Nick.
18:56In my house, you need my permission.
18:58No, I do ask me.
18:59No, I do ask me.
19:00You ask me.
19:01Hey, grow the f*** up, man.
19:03Grow the f*** up.
19:04I thought you want to get up and do something with your life.
19:06Grow the f*** up.
19:07Aaron knows something.
19:09So when we step back and we do more research, this was around the time when Nick Carter was
19:15dating Paris Hilton.
19:16Nick Carter and Paris Hilton's relationship was all over the tabloids.
19:20And you're seeing things like Nick Carter abuses women and they're showing bruises on Paris.
19:26And Aaron Carter inserts himself in the entire thing.
19:29And it's just a terrible look all around because he's supposed to be the clean, wholesome boy
19:34band guy.
19:35And he's just coming across as an awful dude.
19:38Because when I broke up with Paris, this guy takes her out, gets f***ing roses.
19:43And the next day I find a f***ing phone in the car.
19:46And who is it?
19:47It's his phone taking a picture of her.
19:49Her smiling like this in my Cadillac.
19:52And you know what?
19:53It's kind of hard to trust his word as on the show, it looks like he's going to kill his
19:59own brother for getting involved and taking Paris' side.
20:03But then when they're promoting the show on Tyra Banks, it was Aaron Carter doing recon
20:08work to help his brother?
20:10Something's not adding up.
20:11He was 16, she was 20-something.
20:13So Paris took you out on a date after you and Paris broke up?
20:15Yeah, but I had to find out some information.
20:18I had to be a little sneaky.
20:19What did you find out?
20:20I just found out that she wasn't being a good girlfriend to Nick.
20:24He told me later on that he found out who she had cheated on me with because she didn't
20:28say it was with anybody.
20:29Who was this with?
20:31Well, I don't want to...
20:32Uh, Chad Michael Murray.
20:33Guys, guys, guys, stop fighting over Paris Hilton.
20:36They don't close down Disneyland after the first group's been on the Matterhorn.
20:39This all just feels like a recipe for disaster.
20:42How is Nick Carter, somebody who later on comes out and says, yeah, I had a substance problem,
20:50going to be the one that lectures the other members of his family?
20:55Seems a little hypocritical.
20:57In 2004, I was really hard into drinking and drugs, and that's when I met Paris.
21:02Being around the social light atmosphere is definitely a dangerous world.
21:07Nick Carter was abusing drugs and alcohol so seriously that it actually led to a buildup
21:13of toxins in his heart.
21:14I got checked up by a doctor and I found out that I had a drug and alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy.
21:21You're not exactly shocked when none of the family members listen to his advice.
21:25What the f*** did, dude?
21:27What are you talking about?
21:28It caused them to start attacking me.
21:29I don't attack.
21:30Get used to it.
21:30You want me to tell you what?
21:32No, that whole life feeling like you're being attacked, dad.
21:34That comes from mom and dad.
21:35Basically, the reason I'm out here is I'm...
21:36It does.
21:37It really does.
21:38I'm sorry.
21:39It comes from mom and dad.
21:40Like, you're constantly being attacked.
21:42If this was a Hallmark movie, this would make the family all come together.
21:47The pep talk would work.
21:49Aaron, BJ, Leslie.
21:52They'd all straighten out their life.
21:53Let's just be happy that we're all alive today.
21:56After everything that we've been through, after all the obstacles and things we've had
22:00to go through, we're all here and we're laughing and having a good time.
22:04Aaron Carter doesn't tattoo his face.
22:07He doesn't OD.
22:08Maybe he even gets a spot on one of those Pop 2K nostalgia tours.
22:12Does the old hits.
22:14Who, after eight years of sugar sweet hits aimed at adolescent girls, now has this video
22:20getting frequent play on MTV.
22:23I've been to countless concerts where a song that was critically hated and rejected by the
22:30public was actually loved and being sang by a ton of people with no irony attached to
22:37it.
22:38No, they just dug the song.
22:39So it's like the haters are loud, but the supporters are more silent.
22:49Nick, don't be so critical.
22:51But BJ, it's pretty whack.
22:54Hey, he's having fun.
22:55It's pretty whack.
22:58I'm not joking.
22:59We're not calling it Carter.
23:01What do you call it?
23:02I don't know.
23:03We're coming up with something else.
23:04We're not Carter.
23:04What?
23:04Like what?
23:05I don't know.
23:06Instead of suffering through years of trying to get street cred and trying to be tough,
23:12he could have just embraced it.
23:13He could have pulled the vanilla ice where suddenly, you know what?
23:17I'm not trying to be hard.
23:18I'm going to just be myself again and be happy.
23:21He could have been the guy who pops up and as an adult actually does a basketball game
23:27with Shaq on Jimmy Fallon or goes around the country and hosts his own errand parties.
23:33And then all the girls who grew up with him would buy a ticket.
23:37Doesn't even have to be that expensive of a ticket.
23:39He could have made a living and just lightened up.
23:42He wants to call it war wounds.
23:47Nick Carter has a level of self-awareness to know how his bread is buttered.
23:53He'll lean into it.
23:54All right.
23:55I'm cheesy.
23:56Fine.
23:57I'm cheesy.
23:57You know what?
23:58You picture me this way.
24:00Fine.
24:00Whatever.
24:01I make a ton of money and I do what I love.
24:03Nick knew that Aaron could have had that.
24:05He was Bieber before there was a Bieber.
24:08He paved the way.
24:09He didn't have the amount of hits that a Justin Bieber has.
24:11But, you know, he also got in while people were still buying music.
24:17Tell you something, bitch.
24:18I think Nick had a pretty good plan of attack.
24:21Sure, he wasn't dealing with, like, the substance stuff.
24:24But personality and motivation-wise, yeah, he was onto something.
24:30If BJ had a career that she loved, she'd be motivated.
24:35If Leslie went back to making music.
24:37And I promise to be true.
24:41True.
24:42True.
24:44He wanted to help Angel out with her modeling career.
24:47Angel was not a burden.
24:48More of a, hey, you know what?
24:50If I put some of my resources into this, Angel, you could really be something.
24:55And even when he did the tough love thing with Aaron, I think he was right.
24:59I'm going to do what mom and dad couldn't do for you, is watch out for you.
25:03Not take from you, watch out for you, set you up.
25:06I told you, if you ever need anything, I got your back.
25:09I told you that, man.
25:10Aaron should have stuck to bubblegum pop.
25:13It drives me insane.
25:14He's not, he's not from the hood, man.
25:16He loves his stuff.
25:16But he needs to live up to who he is.
25:18I don't know.
25:18Nobody's going to respect him like that.
25:20You know that, like, he's gotten tired of being in a boy band, that the jokes made against
25:25the Backstreet Boys occasionally got to him.
25:27But he also knew where his bread was buttered.
25:29He's sticking with the group.
25:30And you know what?
25:31If you want to do side things, cool.
25:33But Aaron, you've got to know where your audience is.
25:36Oh my God, it's Aaron Carter, Nick Carter's older brother, and go Disney and all that type
25:39of stuff.
25:40It's like, it's all about the credibility of the music and the credibility of the artist.
25:43I'm trying to be a real artist.
25:45I'm trying to do what I feel comfortable with, because that really shows.
25:49Speaking of BSB, they actually pop up.
25:52Now it's about how you want to recreate yourself.
25:54Because right now, you're in the process now that you can really redefine who you are, because
25:58you really are the last group saying it.
25:59You are the last egg to sound cornblows.
26:02You know, you guys are it.
26:04And this is where I kind of really feel bad for Nick.
26:06Instead of focusing on the next phase of the Backstreet Boys going all in on the album,
26:12he has to deal with all this family drama.
26:16So how are things going with Nick?
26:18Good, bad, and different.
26:19I mean, it's good to have a family back there.
26:21We'll just love each other.
26:25It's good.
26:26The Backstreet Boys are preparing to release their next album,
26:29Unbreakable.
26:30Which, fun fact, actually has a song on it written by NSYNC's JC Chazze.
26:36So it's okay.
26:37You can be an NSYNC and a Backstreet Boys fan.
26:40That war has been gone for like 25 plus years, okay?
26:44As soon as they both knew that Lou Perlman was screwing them over and playing them against
26:48each other, it ended right then and there.
26:50Now it seems like NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys are always cross-pollinating.
26:55So now instead of fighting bad contracts, they fight bad zombies.
27:01I don't think that that's going to work.
27:02A dance record with a rock record.
27:04I just don't think so.
27:05That's just my opinion.
27:06You don't want to mix rock with a Euro dance music.
27:10Okay.
27:10I'll give it a shot.
27:11Boy, being Nick Carter is not as glamorous as I thought it was.
27:19Not only do you support a family of deadbeats, but even the one that you want to cut out,
27:25your own mother, keeps popping back up.
27:28Nick keeps getting guilted by his sister and his brother and his other sister and his other
27:35sister that you have to let mom back in.
27:40Nick has millions of dollars.
27:42He's just buying all this he doesn't even need, doesn't even want to help take care of
27:46our mother.
27:47Please, forgive mom.
27:49I know she took your money.
27:52She spread rumors about you.
27:54She used you as a meal ticket for your entire life.
27:57But she didn't mean to.
27:59That would be enough to make you pretty angry.
28:02At some point you need to say, you know what?
28:04This is my only mother in this whole entire world.
28:07And you know what, maybe I need to give her one more chance.
28:09Because that one more chance, maybe I'll save it.
28:11If it wasn't Angel pushing this, I don't think Nick would have agreed to help.
28:16All right.
28:17You know, I'll work on this.
28:19I'll give her a call.
28:21Tomorrow I'll give her a call.
28:22It's like, why?
28:23Why us?
28:26Unfortunately, Nick was right.
28:27It's just another case of his mom using him.
28:31And nowadays, he looks so much happier being the guy at a Star Wars convention and opening
28:37baseball cards than he is here, dealing with family drama and leeches and your money Dracula.
28:43It's kind of funny how she doesn't even want to call me after she gets her $5,000.
28:46I got a phone call from Dad.
28:49He said that he saw a mom in a bar.
28:52At least one sibling has to recognize where you're coming from.
28:56And that was Angel.
28:58But all of us attacking him, he feels like we're attacking him.
29:00I didn't hardly say anything.
29:01I know.
29:02But he feels like we're all attacking him.
29:03So you have to deal with Nick in a very different way.
29:06BJ is in the middle of splitting with her boyfriend.
29:09She doesn't love him anymore.
29:11I don't love you.
29:13I have done nothing wrong.
29:15Please just leave me alone.
29:16And I'm here for you every day.
29:18No, I wish you weren't.
29:18And I've always been there for you because I love you because I love the person you are.
29:22She does not love this dude anymore.
29:25Or she does.
29:27I don't know.
29:27There's a scene where Nick comes in and has to play some sort of redneck Cupid.
29:33Whatever it is you guys are going through, there's a better way to work it out besides
29:37running away and yelling and screaming at each other.
29:40Wes and her were going to be romantic.
29:43Tonight was supposed to be our night.
29:45But he blew her off her.
29:47Who?
29:47You gave it away to Petey Pablo.
29:52Now she's willing to commit and even swear off the booze.
29:56Especially my boyfriend.
29:57I'm not drinking anymore because I don't want to lose my boyfriend.
30:02Nick promises, I will always be there for you, BJ.
30:06Erin doesn't make the same promise.
30:08Telling me that you don't think me and Wes should be together?
30:10It is not your choice.
30:11It never will be.
30:13Hey, BJ, you watch how fast he breaks up with you.
30:15Oh, you think?
30:16Wes is not going to break up with me, Erin.
30:18Nick is just trying to be so supportive of these people.
30:22Get your mind right and just be careful wherever you're going, dude.
30:25Well, just so you know, I'm not going to go back into all the old habits and things.
30:30He wants this thing to work so bad.
30:32Carter Brothers are capable of being here.
30:34I don't know what's coming at him.
30:35I don't know what's coming at him.
30:36I don't know what's coming at him.
30:37And even looks genuinely happy when one of his siblings starts to succeed at something.
30:42If this is the direction that you are going in, then I'm really just admiring you right now.
30:48I want to tell Angel this note.
30:50I'm seriously proud of you because I've seen your pictures, the stuff that you did with
30:53Solis and all the things that you really, I mean, you look beautiful.
30:56Leslie, like, I'm so proud of you and you've been writing great music.
31:00You know, the house isn't that bad anymore.
31:03I mean, it really, I mean, people are cleaning up after themselves.
31:06I mean, it's, this is cool.
31:09But even in 2006, they are all really far gone.
31:14BJ starts spiraling.
31:16Aaron starts spiraling.
31:18Leslie starts spiraling.
31:20They need a therapist, not Nick.
31:23So they do get a therapist.
31:25Ask us, who do you want to live with?
31:27You have to pick right now.
31:28We're divorcing.
31:29I want to rebuild my family.
31:31And if it's going to take a little time, then it's going to take some time.
31:35And wow, the mom actually sent Leslie to fat camp.
31:39Then I started doing my music career.
31:41And when I got heavier, it didn't work out.
31:44I ended up not being somebody that they can make money off of.
31:47You know what mom did?
31:48Mom sent me away to a fat camp.
31:50She told me it was a horseback riding place.
31:53And when I got there, two big men grabbed me.
31:55She told me I was going to a summer camp, like, to go have some fun.
31:59I felt like I was totally thrown away.
32:03Honestly, for a long time, I thought fat camp was just, like, a joke sitcoms and movies would make.
32:08I didn't know it was an actual place.
32:11While on vacation, Aaron has a really bad accident.
32:16Which sends him to the emergency room.
32:18And instead of sticking around, he leaves to go have a booty call.
32:23I'm not going to have sex.
32:25Because it's been a year since I've f***ing had any sex.
32:27And you guys are all having lots of sex.
32:29That's what it is?
32:30I am very sexually frustrated, okay?
32:32Now, we get to meet Dad.
32:34And this is the most Florida man someone's ever been.
32:38I'm down to one dog.
32:39Well, good for you.
32:41One guy eaten by an alligator.
32:43One guy eaten by an alligator? Who?
32:45A bell.
32:46This guy is 60 years old.
32:48But he looks like an ex-boybander.
32:51Or the guy who manages a boyband.
32:53Which he kind of actually is.
32:57I know what he isn't.
32:58A pep talker.
33:00Because he's terrible at it.
33:02Stop.
33:03Stop being weak.
33:05You gotta step up and be the man.
33:07You gotta put the foot down and say,
33:09That's it.
33:09I love you.
33:11But I'm not your cash cow anymore.
33:14And that's what your name used to be.
33:16Cash cow.
33:17He's almost as bad at giving the pep talk.
33:19As he is at giving parental advice.
33:22Or even being a parent.
33:24Hey, what are you doing there, big girl?
33:27Huh?
33:30What's wild is, after all we've heard about the mother,
33:33I end up siding more with this guy?
33:36He's the lesser of two evils.
33:38I could be not well, too.
33:40Dad, do you even care about her?
33:42I care about her for the mother of my children.
33:44You never loved her enough to care that...
33:46She put me out of love 15 years ago.
33:48Are you concerned?
33:50Are you listening to me?
33:51You haven't loved her for 15 years?
33:52Nope.
33:54And with that, the show comes to an end.
33:57Nick is really excited, thinking,
33:59we really grew as a family.
34:02Sure.
34:03We're all going our separate ways,
34:04but I'm gonna miss you guys.
34:06I know.
34:07Think how many times we have to do this.
34:08This is the only time we can ever all live together.
34:10Well, maybe we can do it again.
34:13Who knows, right?
34:14I don't know what to say about House of Carters.
34:17It did nobody any favors.
34:20It put Nick's skeletons out there.
34:22None of the siblings were able to use this
34:24as a springboard to anything better.
34:26All it seemed to do was make them a mockery.
34:29If there's one show you watch on E,
34:32watch House of Carters.
34:34Get off my back!
34:35I have to be on your back!
34:36Why are you always riding me?
34:37This is the only way you listen to me!
34:39Get off of me!
34:40I used to rap when I was little.
34:41Just take me.
34:41You have to get your life together!
34:43I know!
34:43I have weird hair and bad skin!
34:46Bro, I'm sorry, dude.
34:47Dude, that's my bad.
34:48That's my bad.
34:49And divided, the Carters fell.
34:52Tragedy after tragedy after tragedy.
34:55Leslie died.
34:57Then Aaron died.
34:59And then a year later, BJ died.
35:01And Nick, he has to deal with all this stuff.
35:05I wasn't able to save her.
35:08It was just too late with Leslie.
35:09And still to this day, I kind of don't believe that it happened.
35:13The message from them was, if you had been there for her, she would be alive today.
35:20Unfortunately, it seemed like substance abuse just kept popping its head up.
35:24They all were doing something that was causing them great harm.
35:28And you didn't realize it until years later with Nick Carter.
35:32But the rest of them, yeah, ultimately, it took them down.
35:35And that was sad.
35:36I felt it was unfair.
35:37It was unfair, especially with all the things that I have done.
35:41And still to this day, continue to do.
35:43And I guess in Nick Carter's circumstances, at least he had the Backstreet Boys.
35:48At least he had people on his own team that were like,
35:51Nick, your actual brother may not be able to step up and say,
35:55you got a problem.
35:56But we're kind of your brothers and you got a problem.
36:00No matter what he and I had gone through in our lives,
36:03we always were able to make amends.
36:05Always were able to get back to that place.
36:07And now I can't anymore.
36:09And, you know, it hurts.
36:11And at least somebody saved Nick and Angel was okay.
36:14Because the rest of them all felt like toss away children.
36:17Even their problems were because I don't think any of them felt loved by their parents.
36:23They were all masking that.
36:24And unfortunately, this is what happened.
36:26And you put it all in a guy like Nick.
36:28And Nick's trying to be mature.
36:30But, you know, he's not that old himself.
36:31And he's got his own issues.
36:34And suddenly, you know, you're getting these wild mood swings too.
36:38I love my brother.
36:39I want to murder my brother.
36:41Oh, I'm going to be able to take care of all my sister's problems.
36:43Oh my God, the problems are way too big.
36:45Get him out of my house.
36:46Thankfully, somebody said,
36:48Yeah, we don't need to do a season two.
36:51Nick, keep this to yourself, okay?
36:54How can you say that about me?
36:55I would never create up a story just to cause problems.
36:59I'll keep my mouth shut before I do that.
37:01Hey, if you like this video and want to learn about more reality shows
37:06and anything else on this channel you want me to cover,
37:09let me know.
