00:04What's the secret to keeping the audience engaged in form-like stories like those in Bridgerton
00:11where we all know that love will triumph one day and yet will stay glued to the screen as if
00:17might not happen?
00:19Yeah, well it's like Romeo and Juliet, isn't it?
00:22Like it's funny how you can be told a story and you know where the ending is
00:27but I think the fun of storytelling is it's so innate in everyone
00:32like everyone knows what it is like to tell a story and to be immersed in a story
00:36that you just forget and you're like, you know, it's like an exercise in like
00:41because you still feel like super frustrated when it doesn't work out or you know
00:46as in the case of this show like there are so many moments where they miss each other
00:51but I guess it's the magic of those kind of stories, isn't it?
00:55Yeah, I mean it's also like you have to remember that the story is created by the fantastic writers
01:01in the writers room in Shonda and you know we don't have control over that
01:06but then you have an amazing costume team, amazing hair and makeup team
01:10that make it all look really pleasing to the eye
01:14and then you add us on top and then you create a beautiful package
01:17but without each of those teams doing the best at each of their fields
01:21then I don't think you get as good of a story
01:24but we're so fortunate enough to have an amazing team
01:27and there are also lots of moments I think, picking up on what you were saying
01:31where you really do not know how they're going to make it through
01:34there are a few moments in the show where actually I'd advise the audience to be a bit like
01:38how is it going to work?
01:40God.
01:41I think that's it though, I think that is it
01:43I think that's why people like Bridgerton
01:45because they know it's going to probably have a nice lovely ending
01:48we want that
01:48like
01:51I, you know
01:52Bridgerton came out when the world broke
01:54when the world got broken for a few years
01:56and it was mad
01:57and I feel like it was a real comfort
02:01and actually like I read loads of
02:03me and Hannah are both like avid readers
02:05and like chances of
02:08I mean there's a book that might end badly for us one day
02:10don't worry it's not happened yet
02:12No, no, why would you put that in my head today?
02:14but like most of the time I'm reading it because I'm like
02:16oh I know that these people are going to end up together
02:18and that's going to make me feel happy
02:19but it doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the ups and downs along the way
02:22because you need that
02:23but even in the back of your head
02:24this like comfort of knowing
02:25it's going to be alright in the end
02:27I think it's really quite human
02:29like because life is so unknown
02:31I think
02:32Yeah, agreed
02:33Because I think we're watching our lives
02:35I know we're watching
02:36you know frocks and carriages and horses
02:39and that's probably not most of our lives frankly
02:41but I think the human beings
02:43the human beings in the middle of it
02:45you know
02:46we all know
02:47we all know
02:48how complicated life is
02:50and the difficulty of it
02:51and we want life
02:52we want life to serve us well
02:54we want love to triumph
02:56Yes
02:56we you know
02:57that's why we watch story
02:58we watch story to see
03:00you know
03:00what happens when a really long friendship
03:03hits the rocks
03:04how do people get out of it
03:05what happens when society says
03:07this person cannot be in love with this person
03:10how do they manage that
03:11it all happens in real life
03:13you know
03:13what happens when people want higher wages
03:15that happens in real life too
03:17yes it happens in real life
03:18you know
03:18so we're watching it in this other location
03:20but really
03:21we're watching life
03:23and we want
03:24we want support and answers
03:25and we want direction
03:26and wisdom
03:27and stuff that will help us
03:29get through the next week
03:31and art is an influencer
03:33yeah
03:33and art is
03:34storytelling is an influencer
03:36you know
03:37stories get you through your life
03:38exactly
03:39and they can influence your idea
03:41or your understanding
03:42and your perspective
03:43on your own life
