00:00Oh, I like your background.
00:02Yeah, they're so cool.
00:04I know.
00:16Benvenuti a Solat del Mar.
00:17I feel that in the first episode, Daryl and Carol are almost like Batch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
00:24Was it intentional or not?
00:28Well, you know, we've spent years cultivating this relationship between the two of them.
00:35So at this point, their primary focus is to try to get back to the United States, and clearly they
00:43don't make it that far.
00:44So what I always loved about those characters is so much can be illustrated without them saying a word.
00:53They just look at each other.
00:55They know what to do.
00:55So I think it is a little Batch Cassidy and Sundance.
01:00And I'm glad you said that because it plays into the theme of season three, which is it's a Western.
01:08You know, The Walking Dead started as a Western.
01:10Rick Grimes was the sheriff, and, you know, he was in this town.
01:13And, you know, cowboys and Indians, except they were zombies.
01:16So we very much leaned into the spaghetti Western vibe.
01:22So Butch and Sundance makes complete sense.
01:25Yeah.
01:26The early seasons, especially aspects of getting a season two, I think of shots that we saw.
01:35And it's like, ooh, that's John Ford.
01:37I shot that shot.
01:38I know exactly what you're talking about.
01:39But this was more Sergio Leone.
01:45I love that.
01:46Yeah, I'm Italian.
01:47So speaking about Italy, you went to France, now Spain.
01:52When are you coming in Italy?
01:54Oh, boy.
01:55Oh, boy.
01:56If the tale could be told of Walking Dead's plans for Italy at some point.
02:07Listen, we would love to.
02:09You guys have an incredible film community out there.
02:14And there is so much story that could be told, you know, from the culture of Italy.
02:21So, you know, a lot of it is hopes and dreams right now.
02:26But that's where everything starts.
02:28That's where so much of what we've done starts.
02:31So, I mean, I know this sounds sort of pat, but you really never know.
02:40Let's hope to see you there.
02:42And maybe you can bring us back the Mona Lisa, because in the first season, there's the Mona Lisa.
02:50So think about it.
02:52Oh, interesting.
02:55And a thing about Spain, we see the king and queen of Spain watching a particularly creepy puppet show.
03:04It's amazing.
03:05I want to know how did you work on that?
03:08Well, that was something, you know, we did something very unique in France when we met this conductor character in
03:16season one.
03:17And he had utilized walkers to create this orchestra.
03:22And we really like the idea that walkers are being used in a different way.
03:27And in season three, sometimes they're used as weapons.
03:30Sometimes they're used for defense.
03:34And in that particular instance, they're used to illustrate Spanish culture, king and queen.
03:41And they're there and they're watching this play.
03:44But we've, you know, we created conquistadors and jesters, but they were zombies.
03:50So the big marionette scene was something that we had a lot of fun with in terms of the concepts
03:55and how to make them, you know, stay in character, but still make them look eerie and unsettling.
04:02So it was fun.
04:05And since you know Daryl and Carol better than anyone, she said in the first episode that he hides some
04:14stuff.
04:15He always hides something.
04:17Do you know what he's hiding?
04:19Well, you know, that's funny because I always felt that they communicated almost better when they didn't say anything.
04:29And Norman and Melissa and I talked about this a lot in that first episode because they know each other
04:37so well
04:38that they don't have to say what they're feeling and the other person can figure it out.
04:41So I think in certain instances that's really Carol just saying, I know something's bothering you
04:50or Daryl saying, I know something's bothering you and I probably know what it is.
04:55I just, it's more of a, do you want to talk about it versus I don't know what you're thinking
05:00because they always know what each other's thinking.
05:02Thanks.
05:03Thank you so much.
05:03The marionette show is incredible.
05:06Thank you so much.
05:06Thank you.
05:07Thank you.
05:09Continuiamo a non arrenderci mai.
05:22We'll see you next time.
