00:00I saw that article with Gary Oldman and he goes, it seems like after David Bowie died, the whole world
00:05fell apart.
00:06It kind of feels like that.
00:17Hi, nice to meet you.
00:20First of all, I'm Valentina.
00:22From Italy, you've been in France, now Spain.
00:25When are you coming in Italy for this show?
00:28Right? I don't know, I'm ready. Anytime now.
00:32Hopefully next.
00:34We will, if you're due.
00:36And in this season, you and Carol, I mean, you are there.
00:43You look almost like Batch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.
00:47This season is more like a Western.
00:49So do you love this new approach on the show?
00:54Yeah, we really tried to make it look like a Western, especially episode five.
00:59We shot that in Belchite, where the Spanish Civil War was.
01:05We leaned into it, like the poster behind you, into the key art to make it look like a Western
01:11vibe.
01:11A lot of the spaghetti Westerns were filmed where we filmed.
01:15In Sepulveda and all that.
01:18But yeah, I always thought Daryl was sort of made for a Western, to be honest.
01:23He's kind of perfect for a Western.
01:26So yeah, it was really fun.
01:27So, yes.
01:28So did you have some spaghetti Westerns in mind for this season or not?
01:35Well, there was a lot of, like, Man with No Name, you know, a lot of Westerns.
01:41But also in Storyline, there was a lot of, like, Kung Fu or, like, Billy Jack, you know,
01:48especially in that Belchita episode where it's one man alone going out into the world and, you know, doing that.
01:56But yeah, we talked about a lot of Westerns as influence and a lot of the wardrobe and the wardrobe
02:03on different characters that were there.
02:06A lot of the tone, a lot of the camera setups, stuff like that.
02:11So, yeah, we leaned in.
02:14In the first episode, Carol says that Daryl is always hiding something.
02:20Since you know him better than anyone, what is hiding in Daryl, in your opinion?
02:26When we came through the tunnel, right, we came through the tunnel, we're walking to London,
02:30there was some dialogue that we added that was, that's sort of in the trailers, some of the trailers,
02:36where it says, I say to her, all we ever do is run and fight.
02:41We run and fight, run and fight.
02:43Maybe there's a better way to live, right?
02:47That's sort of a storyline through three and into four.
02:53What happens is, you know, we get to Spain and we meet these two young lovers
03:00and they're running away just to be together, right?
03:04People are falling in love around Daryl, right?
03:08That combined with all we do is run and fight, maybe there's a better way to live,
03:14is causing Daryl to reevaluate what he's been doing.
03:18Maybe he's been doing it wrong.
03:19Maybe there's a happy place for Daryl someplace and he's not looking for it, he's just looking for this, right?
03:28That's kind of what I'm hiding, is me trying to figure out, is there something for Daryl out there?
03:37Like, can Daryl be happy somewhere?
03:38Can Daryl, can he relax?
03:41Can he slow down, you know?
03:43That's kind of maybe what I'm hiding.
03:47So, Carol says also that it's okay to let go.
03:52So, are you ready to let go of him after all those years?
03:57I don't know.
04:01I'm in the middle of shooting season four right now.
04:06David Bowie had this quote once where they asked him, he said,
04:10what do you think your last words are going to be before you die?
04:13And he said, but, but, but, but, you know, I think that's kind of where I'm going to be in
04:20a couple months.
04:21But, but, but, but, you know, so I'm happy with where the show's at.
04:27I'm happy with the story we're telling.
04:30I want certain things for Daryl because I put so much work into him.
04:35I want him to get somewhere, you know?
04:37I want him to get to a place.
04:39And, you know, like the character, his idea of home is kind of changing.
04:44I mean, the truth is we get, we meet these people and we get wrapped up in their storylines
04:52and we learn from it and our ideas change and that's what happens.
04:57If Carol and I were just trying to get home every episode, we'd just be looking for a boat every
05:01episode.
05:03You know what I mean?
05:04Yeah.
05:04We would just, we would just fuck off and go look for a boat.
05:08You know what I mean?
05:09I know there's a battle happening, but let's go look for a boat.
05:12Let's go out the back door and look for a boat.
05:14That's kind of not what happens.
05:16Our ideas change.
05:17We learn from these people around us.
05:20And seeing these people fight for love is new.
05:25We've never really done that.
05:26So maybe there's, there is something out there.
05:29There's a happy place somewhere that Daryl hasn't found yet, you know?
05:36Love Dave, David Bowie quote.
05:37He's my personal Jesus, so I really appreciate it.
05:40Yeah.
05:41Yeah.
05:41I saw that article with Gary Oldman and he goes, it seems like after David Bowie died,
05:47the whole world fell apart.
05:48It kind of feels like that.
05:49He was kind of the glue.
05:51I totally agree with you.
05:52Yeah.
05:52I agree too.
05:53He's got a thought.
05:53Yeah.
05:55Thank you so much.
05:56Yeah, nice talking to you.
05:57Bye.
05:58Ciao.
