Detectives are looking for thieves who snatched over 600 high-value artefacts from a museum in a late night heist. A group of four unknown males gained entry to a building housing a large collection of artefacts belonging to Bristol Museum.

00:00New pictures show some of the 600 artefacts stolen in a daring raid from a British museum,
00:07including ancient swords, jewellery, figurines and opium pipes.
00:12Four unknown men gained entry to the building archive
00:15that housed precious items from the Bristol Museum's British Empire and Commonwealth collection.
00:21The items stolen include military memorabilia, pins from the East India Company,
00:26natural history pieces and carved ivory, bronze and silver figurines.
00:31Carved figurines and other decorative items are also missing,
00:34as well as items of natural history, including geological specimens.
00:39Other items such as pipes, knives, swords, snuff boxes, carvings and opium pipes have also been stolen.
00:46Simon Potter, Professor of Modern History at the University of Bristol,
00:49said that items stolen are unique and of huge value to historians.
00:54It includes irreplaceable historical material from all around the world.
01:00It was collected as a unique collection, really, 20 or 30 years ago,
01:05and it contains material from lots of different public institutions and private individuals.
01:11So really, it's something quite unique,
01:13and it's something that's a huge value if we want to understand the history of the British Empire,
01:18British colonialism, the history of many African and Asian countries in the Pacific.
01:22So it really is quite a shocking development.
01:25Police say they're continuing to identify four people they wish to speak with
01:29in connection to the high-value burglary in the Cumberland Road area of Bristol on the 25th of September.
01:36The building housed items from the Bristol Museum's British Empire and Commonwealth collection.
01:41More than 600 artefacts of various descriptions were taken by the offenders.
01:45The police are still appealing for the public's help to identify the four men pictured
01:50and have released two short video clips of the people they wish to speak to.
01:54Mail 1 has been described as white of medium to stocky build,
01:58wearing a white cap, black jacket, light-coloured trousers and black trainers.
02:02Mail 2 has been described as white of slim build,
02:05wearing a grey hooded jacket, black trousers and black trainers.
02:09Mail 3 has been described as white,
02:11wearing a green cap, black jacket, light-coloured shorts and white trainers.
02:15He appears to walk with a slight limp in his right leg.
02:18Mail 4 has been described as white,
02:20of large build, wearing a two-toned orange and navy or black puffed jacket,
02:25black trousers and black and white trainers.
02:27Police have said the items stolen range in value,
02:30but these one-of-a-kind artefacts are completely irreplaceable
02:33and hold a great importance historically and culturally,
02:36and were donated by several people for others to view and enjoy.
02:39Officers said they're hoping by sharing the full itinerary of items stolen,
02:44people may recognise items they may have seen up for sale
02:47or anyone who may have inadvertently or unknowingly sold, acquired
02:51or come into possession of them.
02:53One man's already been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods
02:56and has been released on police bail.
