00:00As someone who's had a panic attack in an ER, I felt that.
00:08Look out, make way.
00:10Get in.
00:13I'm okay. I'm okay.
00:15Get in the chair.
00:17Oh, that's so good to hear.
00:18Yeah, so talk me through, first of all, the physical aspect of trying to inhabit this very scary, very physical
00:25breakdown of the body in the episode.
00:28Yeah, great question.
00:30So I've actually also had my own experiences with it, and there's something really vulnerable about having your own experience
00:36with something like that,
00:38and then going, okay, I'm having imposter syndrome about my anxiety.
00:44Like, what is going on there?
00:46So I did still do a bunch of research.
00:49I didn't want it to be as simple as, like, okay, I'm just going to do what I've experienced having
00:54that, having gone through that.
00:56And so I did a bunch of research into how, like, people feel.
00:59And, like, it's interesting because there is this commonality, but then a lot of people experience very different versions of
01:05panic attacks.
01:06And I kind of had to go, like, okay, what do I think Samira's version is going to be like?
01:10And there was something that people spoke about with, like, their hands clenching that I hadn't experienced, and I wanted
01:17to make sure.
01:19I don't know if it's in the edit.
01:20I haven't seen it, but I wanted to make sure, like, they got it on camera.
01:23But, yeah, it was definitely really challenging, and there were moments where I even felt like I was hyperventilating myself
01:31because it's, like, the breathing and the chest pains.
01:35And, I mean, there was so much sweat, which is a real thing that happens.
01:39And so, yeah, it was definitely a challenge, but I think it made sense in a way, even though I
01:45wasn't aware when I got the episode that I was going to have that happen.
01:50And it kind of felt like, to me, it was a little scary for it to, like, come up so
01:55suddenly.
01:55But then, like, you don't plan for a panic attack, you know what I mean?
01:57It just happens.
01:58And, like, with everything going on in Samira's life that we've discussed, it kind of makes sense that she's feeling
02:03a little thrown by everything.
02:04Yeah. One, like, weird positive to that scene that I noticed is how many people in the ED just rushed
02:09to her side and wanted to help her.
02:10Yeah.
02:11What the hell happened?
02:12I think I'm having NMI. My chest is so tight, I can barely breathe.
02:16Okay, I've got to get a swab lead. Perla, can I get an assist here?
02:19Yeah, I'm on it.
02:21Did you feel that kind of love and support from your cast members in that moment?
02:25Because it felt like that scared them, like, so much, and they just wanted to make sure you were okay.
02:29Yeah, no, it's really great. I actually don't know if this is still in the edit, but there's, like, a
02:33bit where, like,
02:33because Langdon is really the one who comes to, like, help me, and it's, like, I think the one scene
02:37we have together all season,
02:38but he really does come, and he's like, okay, I'm here for you.
02:41And then we did this thing in one of the takes where it wasn't scripted.
02:45We just started breathing together.
02:47I don't know if it's still in there. It might not be, but, like, that was just a really fun
02:51thing of, you know,
02:53like, he, I think he, as his character realizes, she's going through a panic attack, and it's not a heart
02:57attack,
02:57and, like, he just started, like, breathing at me, and I was just like, okay, I, like, I think as
03:02my character,
03:03I would, you know, do that as well. So, yeah, it, it, it's, it's just really nice to, like, even
03:09just feel support
03:09from other characters as your character, even though it's not really happening, but it feels like it is.
03:15Yeah, for sure. I mean, on the flip side, Robbie is downright cruel to her when he discovers it's just
03:19a panic attack.
03:20I'm doing everything right. It's everything around me that's all f*** up. It's just my mom moving.
03:24Is this a panic attack because of your mommy issues? What? No. Jesus. Do you need to go home?
03:31You should go home. No, I'm fine. I don't need the f***ing liability. Go home.
03:34I was aghast. I think some people would be upset by his reaction. Dr. Alashimi obviously is.
03:40What is it like getting, I guess, the rare negative side of Robbie like that?
03:44Yeah, I mean, I think for Samira, he's not always that person. Like, I think she respects him a lot,
03:51and I think she really admires him as a doctor, but he's so hot and cold with her,
03:57and I think when he says this is a panic attack, that's the first time she's genuinely considering it.
04:03So Samira's dad passed away of a heart attack, and I think she thinks that's what's happening to her,
04:10and I think she's really only considering that's a panic attack when he says it to her,
04:17and I just don't think she likes the way that he reacted and hoped that it would be, you know,
04:23kinder to her.
04:24It's also interesting that you mention how, like, this is the episode where she kind of first notices Abbott,
04:28but in the season, she wants him to be her letter of recommendation for the fellowship.
04:33Is Dr. Abbott still around?
04:35He'll wait to get some sleep before his night shift starts in a couple hours.
04:38Shit, okay, I should have planned this better.
04:41I was hoping he'd write me a letter of rec for an elective so I could have a shot at
04:44a fellowship next year.
04:46I'm curious why she wants him and not Dr. Al, who she has a history with.
04:50I think Dr. Al-Hashimi offers more, I think.
04:54I think you need multiple letters of recommendation, so I think it's both.
04:58Like, I think it would be, like, she knows she can reach Dr. Al-Hashimi because she's going to start
05:01in, like, a few days,
05:02and Dr. Abbott works different shifts, so I think she was kind of hoping she could just ask him.
05:06Well, you're usually in multiple letters of rec, and she's like,
05:09okay, I'm going to ask, I'm going to ask Dr. Abbott, probably Dr. Al-Hashimi, not Dr. Robby,
05:13because I don't know what's going to be in there.
05:15Yeah.
05:16Very scared about that.
