00:18Non sono un mostro. Non cedo per gioco. Farai parte di un capolavoro.
00:32La verità che non vuole sentire.
00:34The look of your characters says a lot about them before they even speak. And add once from Shannon some
00:42specific appearance, even if initially we don't know why. So how did you create your characters starting from their look
00:50with costume, hair and makeup department?
00:53I love that question. I was so lucky to have an amazing hair and makeup and wardrobe team working with
01:03me to help me create Shannon.
01:05And in particular for this role, you're right. Hair and makeup specifically were everything in figuring out what her whole
01:13journey would be.
01:14And so Natalie Nelson and Verity Fiction were my hair and makeup team who worked with me really to create
01:22her from the ground up.
01:24And one of my favorite things about working in film and TV is that it is a village of people
01:29at the top of their craft who are each doing their little specific piece of art.
01:34And so getting to be the canvas for their art was was really, really exciting for me and getting to
01:39figure out what would be the most dramatic progression of her look from start to finish.
01:45So working backwards to figure out what she looked like in the beginning, knowing what she would look like in
01:52the end and what would provide the greatest contrast. It was really fun.
01:55You didn't mention that Ed Ramsey helps curate that look throughout the series.
02:00You're right. You're right.
02:01Thank you.
02:01Yeah, it's so great.
02:05And for you, Ryan.
02:07Yeah, no, Eloise is absolutely right. I echo everything she said about our incredible team.
02:13The only thing I would add is it was fun to dye my hair very blonde.
02:17Never done that before.
02:19Actually, maybe once when I was like 13 with like, you know, bleach or something poorly.
02:23Yeah, it was the 90s.
02:26But yeah, you know, this character Ramsey is is going to great pains to carefully metamorphosize.
02:36Wow, that's a big word.
02:37That's too big for me to to craft these these these people, these these victims in the perfect image of
02:44these killers that he admires and idolizes as part of his sort of plan.
02:48And so, yeah, so I just thought that he would be someone who would sort of take great pains to
02:55create a manufacturer himself in that same kind of way, manicure himself in that way.
03:01And and also something about, you know, psychopath that he is wanting to be this sort of perfect all American
03:07Ken doll, even though he's sort of very far from it.
03:10And so the sort of blonde haired American guys seem to to fit that.
03:16Yeah.
03:17Yeah.
03:17The show the show talks about mental health through your characters, too.
03:22So how did you bring on scene that aspect of Ed and Shen?
03:27Sure.
03:28Well, yeah, I mean, the show certainly I think deals with that in a number of ways.
03:32For us, it was fun because we were playing such sort of, you know, tough, dark, challenging moments at times.
03:39And first and foremost, I think real life mental health is important.
03:44And so it was really important to have trust and discussion with Eloise in these scenes so that we're always
03:50very sort of clear about what we were doing and also creating a stage where we could play with violence
03:56and things that are scary and and and never have that cross into any of the actors being, you know,
04:01upset or afraid in any way.
04:04But, yeah, I mean, in terms of Ed Ramsey's mental health, I can sum it up.
04:09It's not good.
04:10He's I did some some, you know, very simple research into, you know, serial killers that we're all familiar with.
04:21And and, yeah, I you know, it's it's tough to say where that comes from that creates such a lack
04:29of empathy and disregard for other other human beings.
04:33As I think certainly trauma in some form and also a lack of love, a lack of connection early on.
04:39You know, there's not not Bundy.
04:40What's the other one that my friend played?
04:44Domer?
04:45Yes, Domer.
04:46He was.
04:47Yes, he was, I think, not touched by his mother as a baby for some period of time or something.
04:53Things like that are very interesting, especially when you contrast it with Cross, who our show is about and trying
05:00to be a good father and mourning the loss of his wife and being a family man, not just a
05:04detective who's trying to hunt down this killer.
05:07And I think, as Eloise has said, the show does a good job of sort of highlighting the importance of
05:11love and family and connection.
05:13And so my character is sort of antithetical to that, I think.
05:17Yeah, yeah.
05:18And I think Shannon's clinging to her mental health.
05:20Right.
05:21And as as the journey gets harder and harder, as her circumstances get worse and worse, I think more of
05:27the animalistic sort of instinct and rage takes over for her as as it would for anyone trying to survive
05:33survive the unimaginable.
05:35But, but, but, but, you know, clinging to the idea of home, clinging to the idea of safety, trying to
05:43find some sort of humanity in Ramsey and ultimately just doing her best.
05:49Keep looking.
05:50Keep looking.
05:51Never going to find it.
05:52And he believes he will stop.
05:54I'm sure.
06:19I'm sure he will stop.
