01:25and it was a very sensitive
01:28vulnerable place to be

01:34on Saturday Night Live?
01:36or are you trying to create a character
01:37that has some genuine feeling?
01:40thankfully Tom Gormekin is a director
01:43who is intelligent
01:44and he did want a character
01:46and all the characters
01:47Pedro included
01:49to have genuine feeling
01:50and pathos
01:51and so
01:53it was a matter of facilitating
01:55his vision of Nick Cage
01:58which was a highly neurotic
02:00anxiety fueled Nick Cage
02:01because that's his favorite version
02:03of Nick Cage
02:03even though it's not
02:05that's similar to who I am at home
02:08with my need to do something
02:12that doesn't embarrass my family
02:13so it was a combination
02:15it was a higher wire act
02:17and a balancing act
02:18the whole time
02:19the downside was huge

02:49and we're all enjoying it together

02:54becomes like a family
02:55where we're all together
02:56and we're all laughing together

03:29we're all in this together
03:30we're all actors together
03:32we're all brothers and sisters together
03:34why not look at everything
03:37you've got a hundred plus years
03:39look at the silent movies
03:40look at you know
03:42what Dean did
03:43look at what Betty Davis did
03:45and let's figure out
03:47what worked and what didn't work
03:50and let's now go into the performance
03:53of what you can create
03:54what you can contribute
03:56and how you're going to bring it
03:58some genuine feeling
