00:00Which house are you?
00:01Which house are you?
00:04Oh!
00:07Yeah, I'm the door of this.
00:09Okay!
00:22I really enjoy the fact that your character is pure.
00:27She trusts people.
00:30She helps people.
00:32And everybody thinks that for that reason she's almost like she's weak.
00:39Instead, she's a good person.
00:41What in your opinion do you think that being good, being nice,
00:45it's almost like a weird thing?
00:48Yeah, it's interesting actually that you brought that up
00:52because I think Anna is smarter and more experienced, I guess,
00:59than she's letting on at the beginning of the show.
01:02I think she's trying to be as unknowable as possible.
01:05She's running from something.
01:08She's wanting to start a new life for a reason.
01:11And so that's how I always saw her, that there was a lot of darkness that she was hiding.
01:15And she may come across that she's maybe naive or nice or, you know, however you want to describe it.
01:26But I think there is a lot more going on.
01:30And then you see that as the show goes on.
01:32You see that she's actually finding something and there's some darkness that finally she sort of lets out.
01:40But at the beginning, we don't know anything about her and we don't know her past.
01:46So we discover her past through the six episodes.
01:52So was it refreshing for you being a character so mysterious that is almost like a puzzle, an enigma?
02:01Yeah, she is an enigma.
02:04And yeah, it was because, you know, it's sort of exciting to just to meet Anna and not know anything
02:11about her.
02:12I mean, she could be lying about her name.
02:14She could be lying about everything.
02:15And so that's fun for an actor to sort of use your imagination and come up with the history of
02:21your character and, you know, not even having to tell anybody about it.
02:26So that was a lot of work that me and Claire McCarthy, the director, did.
02:30We talked a lot about where she would have come from and sort of looked at the history of of
02:36migration, even at that time.
02:39How is she Irish and how did she get there?
02:41And all of those questions we answered.
02:45But, yeah, it's always exciting to kind of be able to fill in the blanks yourself.
02:49In this TV show, there's a lot of spirit of adventure.
02:52In the last year, we were all in our houses.
02:58So how cool was being part of a story that is so adventurous?
03:04You know, we all need a little bit of magic and we all need to look at these beautiful New
03:11Zealand landscapes and the beaches and the nature and the forests and just sort of fall in love with the
03:17two characters.
03:17And we need an escape. And so I feel like this is being released at a perfect time.
03:26Yeah, I think people will really fall in love with it in a way that maybe they they wouldn't appreciate
03:32it.
03:33But before Covid, you know, when we all thought we were adventurers.
03:36So, yeah, I'm glad we can provide that for for people.
03:42Anna, as in Lydia, a sort of of mentor, a peculiar mentor.
03:51Yes. So, you know, how important are our mentors, our teachers and how important is to choose them wisely?
04:00It's very important. Yeah. And I think the relationship between them is really interesting because I think that Anna loves
04:09Lydia and she's sort of looking for that.
04:13But, you know, is it a sister figure? Is it a mother figure or a mentor?
04:19She's looking to find her place. And I think you see, you know, towards the end of the season, Anna
04:26express her love for Lydia.
04:28And I think that Lydia sees something in Anna that reminds her maybe of herself.
04:36And so it's a it's a very interesting dynamic. And I love that we had these two female characters that
04:43were so different, sort of.
04:44And we got to explore their relationship on the show. And I don't think that would have happened, you know,
04:5010 years ago.
04:50So that was that was a pleasure for for Eva and I.
04:54You are speaking about magic. Do you believe that magic is really in the stars or it's inside ourselves?
05:04If magic sees at all. I don't know.
05:06Well, I'm a massive Harry Potter fan and they do say that the magic was always in you the whole
05:12time.
05:14So maybe maybe magic is in us. I'm not sure.
05:19But, yeah, I like I like these kinds of shows because it's sort of fantasy and you get to believe
05:24in something that, you know, the regular sort of, you know, pessimists wouldn't allow you to believe in an everyday
05:32life.
05:33And it's kind of a beautiful thing to fantasize about these moments of fate, bringing two people together.
05:42Which house are you? Which house are you?
05:44I'm slavery.
05:48Oh, yeah, I'm the darkness.
05:51OK, OK, I can go, please.
05:55What house are you?
05:58I'm Gryffindor.
05:59Of course, of course, of course.
06:02But I think I'm a little bit slidering because I had the extra question.
06:07So I think it was.
06:09Yeah.
06:11And do you believe that cosmic connection really exists?
06:15I love the idea that there's two people that are meant for each other.
06:20There's two people that are the same soul or however people sort of describe it.
06:24with soulmates, astral twins.
06:28I want to believe in that.
06:30I don't know fully if I do, but it's definitely a lovely idea.
06:37I love that Anna, maybe maybe she's afraid, but she she finds in herself the strength to search a new
06:47life, a new destiny for herself.
06:50She's she's not passive, she's proactive.
06:54So how important was for you playing a character like that?
06:58Important, so important to play sort of any kind of female character, tell any kind of female story.
07:05Representation is so important and just it doesn't matter, you know, how they go about their business.
07:12We need to see more female characters telling their stories.
07:16And this was one that, you know, was sort of a dream role because there's so much that that happens
07:25to Anna.
07:25There's so much that she goes through.
07:27She falls in love and then she's on trial for murder.
07:30And, you know, she's pregnant and it's it's a lot that that for an actor to take on.
07:37And so I'm so, so grateful that I'm living in a time right now where we do get to tell
07:45these stories.
07:46OK, thank you so much. I hope to see you in a fantastic big this movie.
07:50So, yeah. Bye.
