00:01With the opening of the alien gates, we are at a crossroads. No longer will Belters be persecuted.
00:15In this season, we get to see a bit more of Amos' background, which has been explored in the books,
00:21but not so much on the show.
00:22Is that something you responded to when you first read the scripts for this season?
00:26Yeah. Being a fan of the books, before I even knew about the show, but also really being a huge
00:36fan of The Churn, book five and season five was the thing that I was most excited to get to.
00:43And once we got into season five, it was really surreal because all the backstory and all the work that
00:48I've done with reading The Churn and working with Ty and Daniel over and imagining in my head what it
00:55was like growing up in Baltimore and the people from the past.
00:58To actually go and live that within what you've been imagining for six years has just been enormously creatively satisfying.
01:08Yeah. So speaking of the fact you're a fan of the books, there are eight books so far. There's a
01:13ninth coming out, but season six is going to be the last one. So how are you feeling about that?
01:17Well, I think, well, I feel enormously grateful that we've gotten six seasons. I think the fans are going to
01:27be satisfied where they go. But also I'll say that a lot of remarkable things have happened with the show.
01:34And the show has really, because of the fans and the people that have supported it, it's really gotten to
01:41a really great place. And they, you know, who knows what the future is going to hold for the going
01:46past season six.
01:48Okay. And so the first three season, the first three seasons were on sci-fi on a weekly basis. Season
01:55four was on Amazon all in one go. Season five is now doing the first three episodes in one go
02:01and then weekly.
02:01So what's it like going back to the old model for the new season for you?
02:06You know, I think there's, you know, I think there's, uh, I think ultimately it's positive, you know, there's, there's
02:12good and bad for each thing, but I think what's positive about it is it allows the conversation, the engagement
02:17to really happen between, you know, one of the things that I love about the expanse is there is a,
02:23uh, a relationship that we have with the fans.
02:26That's unlike anything I've ever done before. And since we went through the things that we went through in the
02:31early days with the show, we've had this kind of relationship and this connection and going into season five, I
02:36had more butterflies and more motivation to do a better job.
02:40Going back to season one because of the fans and the expectation and relationship that we created and everybody, the
02:46crew, we still have about 98% of the crew. When we first started, we become a fan. Everybody gave
02:51everything, their heart and soul to make this, um, uh, you know, really to be the best that it can
02:58be for the fans.
02:58And I think, I think season five is the best thing that we've ever done. And I'm really excited for,
03:03for you guys to, to get to see that. But so in saying that going back to this model, since
03:09we've had such a great relationship with the fans and I've had these wonderful conversations at comic cons or home
03:13Depot, and not only are we kind of, uh, you know, love talking about the expanse, but we all have
03:20the, we're all fans of the common things. We all love the same movies. We all love the same books.
03:24We have a relationship with all these things.
03:26And so Ty and I were talking that, you know, it'd be really interesting since we're in COVID and since,
03:31you know, we're not really doing much is to start a podcast, which is basically a hangout place for the,
03:36the expanse fans from people to come. And not only are we going to talk about the expanse and we're
03:41going to have a companion for each episode where you afterwards you tune in and we're going to talk to
03:45people that are connected to the show and relationship, but also we're going to have a further conversation about alien
03:51and aliens and, you know, movies that we love and have, you know, characters only like Thomas Jane.
03:56And we sit and talk about aliens for three hours, you know, and certain things like that. So, um, so
04:01this model is going to work because we're going to do a lot of companion and hangout stuff that are
04:06kind of related to the expanse.
04:08Awesome. Looking forward to that. And thank you very much.
