Trascrizione
00:03Che sei tu?
00:04Scherzi? Il bagliore scintillante? Gli esvolazzi? Sono la tua fatta madrina?
00:09Hanno rapito mio fratello Charlie. Puoi usare la bacchetta magica per riportarlo da me?
00:14Movies about toys have teached us that toys play and also sing.
00:21So I want to ask you what kind of music they think they listen to, these Playmobil characters?
00:27What kind of music they listen to?
00:30That's a good question, I've never been asked that.
00:34Being an animator, I was at Disney for a really long time.
00:40I love big musicals, big fairytale numbers.
00:47I'm very proud of Tangled and Rapunzel and Frozen.
00:51And in my house, we have a lot of Lego, a lot of Playmobil, other toys.
00:58And the reason why I put music and songs in the movie is when we play, my daughter loves singing.
01:07So when I play with my daughter, at some point, she always sings.
01:14My horse has wings and she starts singing, which is one of the reasons why I put the horse with
01:20wings in the movie.
01:25But yeah, in my mind, I think they listen to Broadway songs.
01:32Broadway songs.
01:32Yeah.
01:33Growing up, that's what I, I was very, I love theater.
01:37Okay, nice.
01:41I love that music, but for this movie in this world, because the thing as a director, I can only
01:50make what I know.
01:51Yeah.
01:52Yeah.
01:53Of course.
01:53We see in the movie that there's a Roman Emperor, and I want to ask you, in your opinion, what
02:00are the arenas today?
02:01And how can we survive to those arenas?
02:05Oh my God.
02:06That's a good, you have good questions.
02:08Thank you.
02:09Um, I think it's politics, right?
02:12Mm.
02:12People standing up for what they believe in.
02:15Um, uh, and you know, to, to some extent, some of these very physical sports, they're still here, right?
02:23Boxing and mixed martial arts.
02:26Um, uh, but the, for me, the message of this story is there's nothing more important than family.
02:33Mm-hmm.
02:33And bringing family together, protecting your family, sharing time with your family.
02:41And something that we've discussed, I love, it's that, that's very important to me in movies is this idea of
02:48community.
02:49This idea of being part of your community and, and, and having a voice in your community.
02:55Um, and I think that's, that's what we tried to do in the movie, is you have this crazy person
03:01in this coliseum, fighting these monsters.
03:05Mm-hmm.
03:05And the thing that really changes everything is Marla expressing herself and freeing, I don't want to, you know, give
03:12away the end of the movie.
03:13But, um, I think having a voice is very, especially for a young person, is to feeling like they're being
03:20heard.
03:20It's very important.
03:21Mm-hmm.
03:22You spoke about, uh, monsters.
03:24Monsters are, uh, a powerful metaphor in movies.
03:28Uh, who are the real monsters today, in your opinion?
03:31Oh, man.
03:33Oh, man.
03:34You're asking me.
03:35Um, oh, man.
03:38I think politics can get very, oh, yeah.
03:45You know, being from California, I have a certain political view on, on the state of the world and what's
03:54being expressed in the world.
03:55And, and I think what we can do is, I think it goes back to having a voice, being heard,
04:00voting.
04:01Mm-hmm.
04:01Right?
04:02Like putting the power back into the people.
04:04Um, uh, but yeah, being, you know, for me, being free, it's in the movie.
04:11Mm-hmm.
04:12Right?
04:12It's an expression for me in the movie is of, of, you know, what, there's also a movement that's going
04:17around in the world.
04:18Right?
04:20Uh, of young people expressing themselves.
04:24Um, um, yeah.
04:27Mm-hmm.
04:27Uh, when I was little, I, I played with, with toys.
04:30Uh, today children, um, play with, uh, with their laptop, with cell phones.
04:37Yes.
04:37They don't play with, with, um, real objects.
04:40So how important is for you that children, uh, play with, with real things, with toys?
04:46Molto.
04:47Molto.
04:48It's, it's very, very, very important.
04:52Um, we try to limit the screen time in my house so that we're forcing my, our family to be
05:00together and play.
05:02And I'm actually writing another movie right now that's on Italian culture.
05:07Mm-hmm.
05:07It's very specifically Italian.
05:10And the themes that I'm hitting is, it's very much about community.
05:14And how, I don't believe that you can be healthy and replace a real community with a fake one.
05:23Mm-hmm.
05:23The online community, um, and that's the, what I'm working on right now is this idea of you feeling like
05:31social media is a real thing.
05:35Mm-hmm.
05:35Like these fake communities.
05:37Mm-hmm.
05:37And there is a very high number of young people that have depression.
05:43Mm-hmm.
05:43Is because they are replacing a real community with a fake one.
05:48But that's, that's the movie that I'm working on now.
05:51Next one.
05:51Um, but yeah, I think you have to play with toys.
05:54Mm-hmm.
05:55You have to tell your own stories.
05:57You have to express yourself.
05:58And there's no better way than real toys.
06:00Okay.
06:01Thank you so much.
06:02Thank you.
06:03Thank you.
06:03Nice meeting you.
06:04Grazie.
06:06Playmobil, the movie.
06:08Oh, andiamo, andiamo, andiamo.
06:11Dal 31 dicembre al cinema.
