The 4th Venom film begins with Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock being introduced in the most intense opening scene, thinking that Venom has passed away at the end of the previous movie, only to have it discovered that a tiny piece of Venom's symbiote was left behind to find its way back to him. However, their momentary reconciliation is disrupted by the release of Knull (Andy Serkis), after having broken free from his Klyntar prison due to the weakening of the seal holding him captive when Venom was thought to be dead. Hardy plays Eddie with desperation because he had lost what he thought would be his last connection with his life-long symbiote partner, only to have them briefly reunited emotionally before a massive rift in space is opened above San Francisco and Knull descends upon the city with all of his symbiote minions, hell bent on exacting vengeance on the symbiote who stood up to him and did not do as he commanded. What makes this concept so great is taking a group of symbiote hosts who represent the various characteristics of humans, and then pairing them with aliens that are similar yet opposite of those characteristics. Each of these symbiote hosts will be paired with other symbiotes, which will add new layers of complexity to their personalities and provide fascinating examples of symbiotic relationships.

Jason Statham joins the team as a member of the military who is paired with the White Anti-Venom, adding a sense of precision to the team through his use of tactics. His symbiote is toxic to other symbiotes, which creates interesting tension between his desire to fight Knull and his need to potentially form alliances with others who share the same goals. Rami Malek is a paranoid outsider who is bonded with the Green Lasher, a former scout for Knull who has since defected, and is therefore always waiting for Knull to exact divine retribution upon him, which fits perfectly with his character traits of paranoia and anxiety. Matt Damon brings an un-expected warmth to the role of a paramedic who accidentally became bonded with Red Toxin, which provides an interesting contrast to the violent aggression of his alien symbiote. He struggles with balancing his professional values with the aggressive tendencies of his alien symbiote. Amanda Seyfried completes the team as an investigative reporter who is bonded with Gold Yellow She-Venom, who utilizes her journalistic tenacity to keep the team together despite the threat of human politics tearing the team apart.
